There is no way Warner Bros is going to get involved enough into the Milestone Comics independent publisher situation. Don't expect Static live action soon. Milestone even independently ran a Static Line where Static's exposure to the Gas was a Black Lives Matter crackdown by the cops. Which I will give credit is a brilliant idea over Virgil or homeless girl being close to a gang war. But anyway Milestone is making a good faith effort to say he's our character and not just some cartoon version we Licsenced to DC animated universe. It's one of those weird things off 90s comics where they licensed stuff like Swamp Man or Sandman, and kind of never had full rights to the IP at DC.

I think one of the episodes I remember the most is when Adam/Rubber Band Man was turning over a new leaf and became a hero in the eyes of the public. He had been getting fanmail as a result, but after Virgil asks him why he hasn't replied to any of it, it turned out Adam suffered from dyslexia. The episode was about identifying and learning how to deal with someone with dyslexia as Adam learned how to deal with it himself. I'm not a dyslexic myself, but the POV the episode had on Adam was eye opening and made me more accepting and understanding of true dyslexics despite how dyslexia is used as a joke all the time in our society for simple mistakes of misreading things.

Kurogiri from My Hero Academia is very similar in terms of power and appearance. That's another show you should check out if you're willing to give anime a chance. It's definitely overrated in the general community but I highly recommend it to anybody interested in super hero stuff. Basic premise is imagine the universe of X-men several generations in the future. Where now instead of those with super powers being the minority and oppressed the exact opposite is true here. Now those without powers are the odd ones out and being a hero is just another job like a police officer or a fire fighter. Though sadly the series doesn't show oppression of those without power beyond the main character who was bullied because of said reason. Honestly the only real reason of inequality for those without powers isn't a brought up topic is there's so few that it's just not an issue. All throughout the series literally only 3 characters were born without a quirk (which is what this universe calls powers). One of of which is over 50 years old and another only appears in the first movie which is debatable on whether or it's canon. The series even goes as far to say quirkless people are almost nonexistent in the current generation which is a far cry from the 20% said in episode 1. I assume that's an overall statistic which includes adults and elderly, and not a 1 in 5 baby are quirkless scenario.

Recently started the kiddo on this show, and got to "that episode" and loved it. Haven't gotten to the crossover episodes yet, but I remember an older Static showing up in Justice League Unlimited The Once & Future Thing 2. In the episode GL brings up that he knows Static. While thinking about "that episode" I'm reminded of the episode Legends from Justice League, where some of the team members are shunted into an alternate universe to team up with the Justice Society. In this episode there are a few scenes that contrast views on equality, and the evolution of comics. Such as Hawkgirl being asked to go into the kitchen while the men talk, and Green Lantern being called a credit to his people. I remember watching this when it first aired and thinking that was a bold move, but we don't see the kind of evolution of beliefs "that episode" of Static Shock gives us. Instead we are shown that these ideals are outdated and held by someone who refuses to move forward in life.

Blackish is an extreme example of it. the entire show is based around black problems black this but the characters never go far enough to have their own identity. Getting nostalgic about Static really makes me want to see Sync in the MCU. Back in the 90s, gangster movies were popular, gangster rap was growing in popularity. While this was giving a voice to African-Americans who weren't heard before, it also played into some negative stereotypes among white people. The writer who created the character Sync said that he was challenging those growing stereotypes. He ticks all the boxes of what white people think of when someone says they are from the projects. He was raised by his grandmother because his mother was on drugs. He grew up in a very poor, crime-ridden neighborhood. Despite all that, he's a well-adjusted, down-to-Earth, likable guy. At the time, he was the most sane, reliable person at Xavier's mansion. He's not as cheerful as Static, but still, it's good to challenge the stereotypes of people who grew up in poor, rough neighborhoods.

The theme song is different than I remember, but since Andre said there were different theme songs, I guess that's why I remember a different theme song then the one for the first season. I used to love the song!

Static was my favorite superhero growing up. I just wish they would’ve had other milestone characters show up on the show like Icon and Rocket.

This show is still loved here in Brazil even after all years. And was a great part of my childhood.

I'm surprised more people don't talk about this show. Sure there is a fan base, but most people nowadays have either forgotten or never heard of it. If this Static could come back, my head would explode.

First! Nice to see the DCAU as a whole get some love after I have seen a couple of people not treat it as mainstream.

You asked for our favorite Static Shock episode. It was when they went to Africa and he met Anansi. I love how Sharon was shopping up a storm. I'm not big on shopping, but I'd have to take an extra couple bags if I went to Africa. 😊

Static Shock IS a show for everyone! I'm a white dude who grew up watching the show. (Not as much as Batman or Spiderman, but that's because DC kept looping the same episodes a lot. Hard to get excited for a show when you've seen the same episode twice in the past month or two already.) But now I want to watch through the full thing sometime. I love how Vergil and Richie are best buds and the "racial divide" ain't even a thing for them, just like for me and my African-American best friend growing up. I love that the show boldly tackles massive social issues from racism, homelessness, social pressure, addiction, and others while staying grounded and fun the majority of the time. Crossing over with Batman is just too cool. Static belonged with every hero he shared episodes with. Here's hoping the next release of anything Static is amazing.

My favorite part of Static Shock hands down is the music. That hip hop is like the soul and is what really made the series distinct.

I never get tired of this show, one of favorites growing up. I seem to come back to thinking or even watching it every couple of years and the itch is coming back now. Maybe for another binge Batman the animated series? Or maybe Batman Beyond?

The gun episode still amazes me, especially because they don't simplify it. The bully is wrong and called out but the kid who eventually feels shooting him is the only way to end this is called out too.

Dude, here in Brazil, Static is like a GOD. Literally everyone use to watch Static Shock and loved the show. I even believe the show made more success here than in other parts of the world, because I rarely see non-Brazilians talking about it, and here it's still remembered as a part of our popular imagination

I love watching this show growing up during my middle school years with my brother. I totally miss those days where after returning from a tough day of school, i turn on the television to watch KidsWB with static at the forefront, very nostalgic right here!! Great video reflecting on this classic!!!!!

Man, I had the biggest grin when I saw this pop up in my feed. We didn't have cable growing up so Fox Kids and WB Saturday Lineup were like my everything. Batman TAS, the Batman / Superman Adventures, Ghostbusters TAS, MIB TAS, X-Men, and of course this show. It's kind of weird looking back because there's this call for more representation and I think back to the shows I grew up with and it feels like we had it if you knew where to look. But then... What happened? I know cartoons as a whole seemed to get relegated to CN and Disney but by the time that happened I had kind of outgrown the time slot and most of those shows had already ended anyway. Or maybe it's still there I just hear more screaming these days than I ever gave a thought to back then. One episode that really stuck with me for some reason, even though I remember some of the heavier subjects you mentioned, was there was one with these two kids trying to stay out of the foster care system. If I remember right, the older brother was determined he could take care of them by using his power (like a built in sound box? I think he called himself Boom) to rob places and like you said, once Static found out why the guy was attacking these places he had the little sister help him find the guy so they could stop from getting himself hurt since his spree could only last so long. Unfortunately at the end of the episode, the boy was taken in police and I think the girl felt betrayed until Static explained they're going to get her brother some help first and I think they were going to be taken in by her grandma. I don't know why that episode still comes to mind but it goes with what you said about finding out there may be more going on with why people do things than we can see.
