What happened with Yang and Raven in the finale was SO unexpected! It’s probably what I’m thinking about most when it comes to Volume 9’s rewrite! Other things like Team RWBY - especially Ruby herself - actually feeling like the protagonists while giving the side characters development without having them steal the spotlight, giving Penny, Ironwood and Salem the character justice they deserve after what the OG volume did to them, making me love Nora, May, Neo and Qrow even more, taking Bumblby and making me love them even more than I already did, Emerald, Neo, Mercury and Hazel being given proper redemptions (Ones that play into each other no less), actually doing SOMETHING with Oscar, I also loved the call back to Volume 3 with Ironwood, Qrow and Glynda fighting together, The Schnee family plot was perfection (was not expecting to tear up that much), making Cinder interesting, doing something interesting with the silver eyes and magic, Qrow and Clover were perfect, the finale as a whole, and I’d LOVE to see art of Mega Salem! Altogether, the rewrite was phenomenal! Definitely worth the wait! Edit: I’m watching this a year later and editing this comment to include more of my thoughts because it is just SO GOOD.

Great rewrite, I love the fact that Salem feels like a main villain and an active threat. And ruby feels like an actual protagonist, and Yang genuinely cares about her sister. Lot of things were done extremely well in this rewrite, looking forward to see volume 9 rewrite, cause I have many issues with that volume.

@@rev0lve638 Not to mention that Ren, like Blake, is horrible about opening up to people and often doesn't know how he should do it, or if should even do it at all. I in real life am much the same way. I mean nobody has ever cared about me in anyway remotely as strongly as Nora cares about Ren, but given that Ren's closed off personality is very common with men in general, and that Nora likely knows as much about Ren through all the time they've been together, I think their relationship growth was better handled with the actual volume 8 than with this rewrite.

I will say I didn't like how they villainized Ren in the canon version as well for being frustrated and reserved. He had every right to be, and while he shouldn't have lashed out, Yang does it daily and they want us to cheer. Hell, Yang did it to Ren in that same conversation, but they want to frame it like he's the asshole. Team RWBY damn near forced them into that scenario [lying to Ironwood and hemorrhaging allies during the biggest conflict they've ever seen] and several leading up to it, but REN is the dick. Aight.

@@eren34558 Actually yes. Vol 8 seems to run on adding things last minute rather than looking back, so the convo about Summer is nice but probably would've been more impactful if it happened sooner. Ren and Nora have been friends/a kinda couple since the beginning, but they have been shown to have their differences and butt heads. You can still be friends with someone you fail to hook up with when the two turn out to be super incompatible, and that Nora's reaction makes a lot of sense in that regard. If there's one thing I'm kinda iffy about, if small, it's that UoW still turned the PoC on Team AESOP into fodder like CRWBY does with...anyone really. But I feel this is accidental, as it always is.

The "TRUE" story of RWBY V8 as far as I'm concerned, and it's finally complete. I love how everything seems to flow naturally, here. XD Personally, I kinda wished that this is where you'd kill Cinder off once and for all, but after seeing this video, I kinda understand why you wrote it, that way. You wanted Salem to become the main villain of this volume, whereas you saved Cinder for the next. That, I can get behind with. I love how you solved Weiss and Yang's family issues in their own respective ways. Also loved how you turned Gretchen into the Hound and used it as a catalyst for Hazel's one final betrayal. Team RWBY meeting Salem is a long since-needed level of fanservice that RT could never hope to achieve despite their status. Ozpin finally has the balls to remain firm of his beliefs, as well as royally dissing Ironwood and not respecting him anymore for the shot back in V7. I kinda wished that you'd kill Ironwood off in some way and have him entrust Winter with Atlas' future or something, and I was also thinking of killing off Pietro so that he could like power-up Penny for something and in away, give her own freedom. But those are just my personal nitpick, so no big deal here. Kudos, buddy. Keep it up. Can't wait for you to rewrite Volume 9 i you feel like it lol.

All right. I really, really liked this rewrite at first. However, you gradually lost me, and if you are justified in expressing everything that you hate about volume 8, then I feel that I am within my rights in expressing how I feel about this. First, Neo. I feel like you made her bland. She never really expressed much of anything in this rewrite, instead just going around saving people. One of her peak characteristics is her sass, and we saw none of that here. She seemed like your "someone's in trouble and we need someone to get them out" character. Second, I feel like having both a "Dark Penny" and a "Shadow Blake" was not very creative. They're both basically the same thing, and for it to happen in the same volume felt just cheap. Also, having so many successive semblances evolving so suddenly felt like change for change's sake, rather than genuine growth. Where you really lost me was having Nora push Ren away. Ren did make tons of mistakes, and I get that you're saying that people shouldn't settle. But if you're saying that, then having Yang and Blake and Qrow and Clover forgive each other so easily and literally kiss makes no sense. Ren was confused, but I think that this was completely out of Nora's character. In this rewrite, it felt like you forgot that Nora actually cares about Ren as a person, not just as her romantic partner. What happened in the actual volume 8 (saying that she needed time to figure out her own identity rather than relying on him) made so much more sense. Really, it just felt like you forgot that Ren is a protagonist, and you undid the beautiful story of volume 4. Next, Oscar. I didn't really feel any depth of his character. You talked about how people talked past him to Ozpin, but you had literally everyone else express it rather than having Oscar have his own emotions. Also, having him disappear felt cheap as well. We all know very well that he isn't gone. It's cheap suspense, and there were so many elements of his character besides "I'm not appreciated as Oscar" that were completely unexplored. I'm going to be honest, these were some of the most awkward love confessions I've ever heard. Emerald hanging off a cliff, screaming "I love you!" legitimately made me cringe, as well as Blake and Yang's clunky dual confession. I think you forgot the "show, don't tell" rule of writing. Also, Qrow and Clover did not have enough buildup to feel natural at all. Cinder. Again, so cheap. We knew she wasn't dead, and we knew she would transform into a mutated form of herself. That's not a new concept, as it already kind of happened to Salem and the silver-eyed warriors. I also feel that we were robbed of a last reunion between Gretchen and Hazel, even if it had to happen right before she died. It would be so powerful. Mercury, one second fighting against Emerald and the next second fighting for her. There's no depth to his character here, it just felt like a standard "Oh you're going to kill this person, so I suddenly change sides" moment. Yang being a maiden. I feel like this creates a lot of imbalance within team RWBY. Let's be real, if one girl gets maiden powers we're going to expect them all to. Also, why do we need two of the girls to lose parents in the same volume? Jacques made sense, but Raven had so much more potential. I felt like you made them good but then wanted to kill them off so you didn't need to have them gradually make up for what they did, which is much more realistic and meaningful. Again, you did the same thing twice, and it feels cheap. Overall, I think that you bit off more than you could chew as far as addressing different characters' issues. Instead of focusing on a couple of serious problems, this felt like "We need to resolve Blake's trauma" "Now let's resolve Penny's frustration" "Now let's talk about how Oscar's been mistreated" and so on. Generally, it felt like fan service rather than creativity. I don't mean to be hateful at all. I did this whole because think that it's more helpful to express the exact issues that I saw here rather than being unhelpful and saying that it sucks, that it's horrible, and so on. I know that a lot of you guys loved this rewrite, and good for you. I don't feel the same way, but everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and I'm happy for you.

I really didn't expect this rewrite of the volume to be so good. It strikes a great balance between maintaining the themes and core of the canon while fixing and adding new interesting elements and more depth to the characters. Also fixes a lot of things in the original (tea scene) and teases that were never followed up on like penny becoming a controlled antagonist and Ren siding with Ironwood. I love how you managed to have Ironwood be an antagonist but still regain his way and team back up with the others to you know, take on the *actual* villain. Unlike in the actual volume all the girls got physical and character boost, which was something I expected to happen to at least one of them in canon throughout such a nerve-wracking set of events in this arc. I just really wish this was actually what we got in the show, I would have been *much* more satisfied overall and not depressed from all of the missed opportunities and bad decisions.

Now, this was a really fun rewrite. You really got the characters involved, like ACTUALLY involved and thinking on their lives up to this point. I also liked how you handled Semblance evolution, especially Weiss' Glyphs at 24:38. Weiss summoning ice-based armor and Nevermore wings would've been the coolest thing for her Semblance; from Ice Queen to Snow Angel. Although I don't wholly understand how Blake falling into shadows with her Semblance works, it was pretty cool to have it evolve at 42:15. I probably would've gone for more of the Fumikage Tokoyami of MHA route with how he used his Dark Shadow Quirk. Maybe Blake could use it to extend the reach of her sword. It was also cool to see things from Penny's point of view, even showing her slight resentment of Ruby's treatment. Oh, and THANK YOU for having Team RWBY actually FIGHT Salem. It was always bugged me how they talked to Salem but never actually faced her in the series proper, and good on you for having Salem actually do something.

This was a good overall rewrite, but I do have a question in regards to how Cinder fell along with Ruby and the others, especially when she has the fall maiden powers and can fly. On top of that I hate to say this but her return was kinda underwhelming considering she was morphed with new abilities only to be defeated by Ruby and co. yet again. In regards to Ozpin and Ironwood's part, I kinda have a slight issue with him Ozpin refusing to forgive Ironwood, when Ozpin kinda has sent children off to their deaths, (granted they volunteered.) My point being that they both tried doing the right thing and they failed. I felt that was a missed opportunity there. I do hope Weiss eventually learns to forgive Jaques for everything, not because he necessarily deserves it, but because to give her peace of mind. I'm iffy on Team RWBY beating Salem twice, but I'll roll with it. Personally after Salem was defeated the first time, I would've introduced Cinder at that point to really give her time to shine and impose herself as the new threat rather than in just one episode, and show that she has the makings of becoming a successor to Salem being a new Queen of grim slowly rising to power. But overall well done. This was well thought out, and I enjoyed listening to it. I do miss the voice effect you used for Salem the previous video though.

I guess the main difference in the Ozpin-Ironwood scene is that Ironwood unnecessarily tried to kill Oscar when he was trying to (and did) help. To my vague and rusted knowledge, I don’t think(?) Ozpin’s done that (sending kids to fight a war definitely, but not outright trying to kill a kid for trying to help)

Late to the party but this is awesome in my opinion I visualize Blake’s upgraded semblance as a character from my own story where she can phase between our realm and the shadow realm on command however she feels heavier more sluggish still combat effective just feels the weight of her past trauma in a physical form and as she grows and heals she becomes more able to move in the shadow realm and with more practice she then gains shadow manipulation just to kinda tier it out idk it’s my own thing this is fantastic tho love you you written it god I don’t want to come off the wrong way 😅

I feel the need to point out that Salem would likely fold all 4 maidens at once and Raven with maiden powers is stronger than Yang with Maiden powers. Realistically if Raven had simply blasted Salem and made this a 5v1 it would make more sense for this win than what actually happened. It would also start Raven on her path to redemption.

This was absolutely wonderful. There are still some bits and pieces that feel shaky or could be fleshed out more (par for the course, given that this is a detailed summary and not, well, in show form) but overall it feels quite a bit more satisfying than the Volume 8 we got. Two particular personal bits of joy for me: bless you for Yang talking to James. Like, _holy_ hell, that reconciliation was what I was waiting for and you nailed it. I'm also honestly pleased with the falling out between James and Ozpin. It makes sense and it's _valid._ People often don't realize that you don't have an obligation to forgive the people who have hurt you, so while James in this version _is_ trying to walk back his mistakes, that doesn't mean that Ozpin owes him the friendship they once had. Two; _thank you_ for the Celtic mythology reference in the Vault. Not playing more into Ambrosius was a wasted opportunity, and I adore the idea of using the _Historia Brittonum_ as inspiration.

@@Growls The winter Vault! "A vast underground lake within a seemingly infinite cavern. Ahead stands a platform lined by a circular stone structure, akin to Stonehenge. At the center of the platform are two dragon statues, one ruby, and one silver." This a reference to the meeting of Vortigern and Ambrosius in the _Historia Brittonum,_ where the king's vain attempts to build a stronghold near Snowdon - which ends up collapsing every night - lead his advisers to suggest sacrificing a boy born without a father and sprinkling his blood on the site to lift the curse on the land. Ambrosius, a boy whose mother had been impregnanted by an incubus, is found and brought before the king, only to rebuke the idea that his sacrifice would be of any help, revealing instead that the source of the disturbance is two dragons - one red, one white - residing in a deep underground pool. Ambrosius prophesizes that the dragons will wake and battle, and that the winner will reflect the fate of Britton. If that impromptu Celtic legendarium lesson wasn't indication enough, I'm an utter history nerd, and the inclusion of this allusion absolutely thrilled me.

I actually quite like Salem’s first defeat. Essentially jumping her with near everyone and getting all her pawns to turn on her was good. Finally the fact that even while jumping her with all the known active high tiers in the verse like Raven and Hazel we still could only stall her and only won because launched a giant nuke in her face. That was excellently done. My one minor gripe is killing off Raven. I feel there’s a lot of potential for her character and killing her off kind of felt like a waste. Death is not the only way a character can redeem themselves. Other than that, I’d say I’m really looking forward to a volume 9 story from you. It’d definitely be better than whatever RT has planned.

@@eren34558 Nora and Ren need time to develop, not a moment to talk about their feelings in the midst of a war after abandonment. I’d say the Nora part was justified and completely fine. Seeing as it’s a v9 rewrite, in depth discussions about Summer can actually happen in the next volume when, I don’t know, the team isn’t fighting the big bad in a war within eight hours. Ruby needs time to process everything during the battle, her talk about Summer with Yang can happen when they have a small moment of peace (like, on the beach in the weird dimensional space they’ve fallen in).

I actually assumed Blake's evolved semblance would be the next logical step for her almost ninja style fighting, as she uses her shadow clone mainly for stealth, shadow travel would make the most sense as an extension of that, imo. Instead of just using clones to trick people and sneak up on them, imagine her disappearing into darkness and reappearing from the shadows in another place entirely, in a matter of less than seconds. (Similarly, not that I think they'd ever bring him back but if Sun did become an important character again, I imagine him having a the same evolution but with light, kinda like that one character from DC that teleports through sunlight.) Alternatively, maybe it is a form of darkness manipulation, like perhaps she can envelope a room in shadows only she can see through, or she can target the shadows specifically around certain people to obscure their vision and give her allies cover (you can even have the darkvision visually represented by her eyes glowing and becoming more catlike, because we don't know if her Faunus trait affects her eyesight or not but it would be an appropriate visual queue nonetheless. And again this just makes me think of Sun's semblance evolving into shining a blinding light that disorients his enemies or emanating a radiant glow that can help his allies see in darkness.)

Honestly I wished that the conflict with atlas and mantle was something like the conflict between piltover and zaun from the new arcane series. Also great video unicorn! Weiss wearing the Grimm armor from her summons is the best! It reminds me of Noel from black clover. I love the yang and ironwood talk! Also unicorn I didn’t know you watch hero academia awesome! @@eren34558 I'm not referring to just behavior I'm referring to the fact that ruby is the main character, she should be fighting the main villian, she should be getting crazy powerups. They've thrown ruby to the back end for so long to where it feels like anybody else could be the main character. Matter of fact ruby wasnt even the last one to fall in volume 8. It was Jaune a side character who shouldnt have any importance to the story. Not to mention in that scene she was struggling to fight neo while her team fought cinder and she couldnt even beat Neo. Neo hasnt once been shown fighting grimm. While ruby took on a Grimm human experiment. Ruby has never faced the big bad in the entire show even in prior volumes. Pyrrha fought Cinder, Raven fought Cinder, Neo fought Cinder, Penny Fought Cinder, Winter fought Cinder, even jaune fought cinder. And I'm not referring to quick moments of interaction between them. They attacked briefly in volume 2 and 3 same thing with every volume leading up to volume 8. Shown being a main character and being a main character is not the same thing. Penny And Oscar felt like the main characters of volume 8 and ruby just kinda fell flat

Just an idea I had for Ciel's weapon: It's a backpack like the one Penny has but instead of swords, it has multiple guns attached to robotic arms she can control using an AI (similar to the one Fox uses in the novels). They range from twin pistols to a shotgun and even a laser that can cut through Grimm like butter. Not sure how it'd work in the fights you wrote, but I'll leave that to more imaginative people to figure out.

Okay. After my comment on the last video, some things have definitely changed. I like some of the decisions in the rewrite, but some of the other one I don't like as much. I'll start with the things I like first. I like that the volume is longer than any other volume has been. Volume 1 was released in 16 chapters, but most of those were parts 1 and 2 of a whole chapter and were split up due to the slow production of the volume and to give whatever audience was watching it something to watch. This longer volume allows for much more story development, as well as much more character development, something the show has been lacking in severely, even in the first three volumes. But I can't exactly blame the writers for that. It is very clear that volumes 1-3 were very much planned out from the onset, with some cut ideas and characters that were reused later on (though not always as great as they could have been). Monty was always more focused on the story and the world building more than he was on the characters (though he definitely did do great character work). After his death though, Miles and Kerry had a rough outline of where the story was to go. The story. Nothing else. Which means that they had to decide what to do with the characters, and it is obvious characters are not their strong suit, as evident by volume 5, where the characters were at the forefront of the volume. Which is why they hired other writers, because character development is hard no matter how many writers there are. I like how you were better able to handle the character development and have it play into the story of the season without it feeling like a giant season of filler, like volume 5. But it just clearly shows that you are a better character writer than anything else, or at least a better character writer than the current writers are. I like the rearrangement of the story structure and I like the new parts added to the story to pad it out. I like some of the character development. Specifically with Yang and Blake, most of the other character development feels unnatural or misplaced to me, which I will give reasons for later. I do like the character development for Neo and Emerald better here than in the existent volume 8, but that's the only other character development I like, aside from Salem actually being a somewhat terrifying villain. Which brings me to the next thing. Salem was well written here. I liked her origin in volume 6 extremely well, but other than that her character has fell flat. It is obvious in the existing volumes that she doesn't care about the wants and needs of her servants, but it's portrayed a lot better here, to the point where it doesn't make her seem like an incompetent leader. Aside from these very small things, that's all I really like about the rewrite. Not a whole lot, but each of them are both very important but also don't entirely invalidate the work that the current writers have done with RWBY as, like I said, they're clearly more focused on the story and world building than the characters, which is the main (and only) flaw I have with the show. Now the things I don't like. I don't like the idea that Gretchen has silver eyes, or that she becomes one of the Grimm/human hybirds. I do like that she worked with Ozpin on a mission that was bigger than a simple "training mission", but other than that, I don't like what you did with the character. But that's a personal opinion, as is everything I have mentioned or will mention, which I am stating here so nobody gets mad at me trying to shove my opinions down their throats or anything. I don't like that Yang becomes a maiden, or the idea that Raven didn't want a kid but had ine anyway because Tai wanted one. I personally see a lot of deeper seeded mental and emotional trauma Raven has that lead to her leaving Yang that are more than just not wanting a kid. I did like that Raven was included in the story, and that Summer had Raven help her before Summer's final mission, but I don't like what you did with Raven's character itself. I also just don't like the idea of any of the main girls (team RWBY) becoming Maidens. I don't like how you furthered Ren and Nora's relationship. As someone who very much relates to Blake and Ren in how and why they close themselves off from those close to them, I don't like that Nora, probably knowing this much about Ren already, would feel like she deserves better. Instead, I would have this sentiment come from Ren himself rather than from Nora and then have Nora not care about Ren's negativity. However, she does need to become less reliant on Ren and she needs to discover herslef without Ren before anything can happen between them. But this is just because of how I personally relate to Ren over the actual development being bad. It's neither good nor bad and everything you have introduced is, as you stated in the first video, just your opinion on what should've happened, therefore entirely subjective. I don't like that Clover survived. At all. I like his interactions with Harriet, but I feel like this could just as easily be handled through Harriet seeing him as a ghost. Harriet knows Clover well enough to imagine an accurate verison of him who would say those things. Though I do agree that the fight with Clover, Qrow, Robyn, and Tyrian was poorly written, I don't think that it warrants Clover surviving to salvage that bad writing. The thing I like the least, however, is "evil Penny". I just personally think it's a trope that is overdone and that it just honestly can't be done well. Not the evil version of a character, that CAN work well, but AI being evil because... AI. I don't like that trope. And that's it for the things I don't like. Now onto the things that I didn't care one way or the other for. Ciel being Pietro's blood daughter, Ciel knowing all along that Penny was a robot, and the idea that Penny shouldn't have been "white". I'll tackle them in that order. I don't care one way or the other if Ciel is Pietro's daughter. Though I would personally prefer Ciel to be adopted in that case, and for her mother (Pietro's wife) to have been infertile, being why they adopted. After she dies, Pietro is both extremely busy with work, but also doesn't know how to properly give Ciel the attention and company she needs, leading to Penny being a younger sister to her, as well as much needed company. I feel like she should learn that Penny is a robot AFTER Penny dies in the Vytal tournament. Mainly because if she knew beforehand, it would be a serious contradiction to have to explain away. As for Penny how supposedly should've been made black, I mean... I don't think there's a reason to bring it up at all. You can, but considering RWBY has never even hinted at skin or ethnic based racism existing in Remnant, I feel like it would be really out of place and forced. Though if you really wanted to do it, you can either have Pietro not care (because it would be stupid if he did) or you can have the decision to make her white be Ironwood's, what with Penny being a government weapons project and that he would prefer to avoid as much controversy as possible, hinting that he has some unintentional level of racism toward people of color, but acknowleding that most other people either also have a subconscious bias people of color, or that there are outwardly biased against them. Also, Pietro looks more middle eastern or Indian than he does black. Like, if we were even to apply real world discriminatory terms to him (which we shouldn't because it's not the real world), he would be closer to being one of those than he would to being black. Another thing I don't care one way or another for is the supposed confirmation of Summer being turned into one of the Grimm/human hybrids. I would personally prefer if she wasn't, and either joined forces with Salem willingly, thus causing serious issues between her and Ruby down the line, or that she was just straight up killed. However, if done right, her being a Grimm/human hybrid could work just fine. And that's about it for my thoughts on the rewrite. I personally like this rewrite about as much as the current version of volume 8, as there are things about both that I like and dislike that balance each other out. But I can tell you're passionate about the series, and you did a great job with the rewrite. In fact, there are some ideas I like so much, that I might include in a fanmade prequel series to RWBY that I am working on (or planning to start actual production on). I dare you to guess what team it's based on. It shouldn't be too hard to guess based on the pretty high demand from most fans. But without further ado, I should now finish this unnecessarily long comment.

Either way they could have stopped cinder from grabbing it anyway: They had another maiden and Weiss has her gravity glyphs that juane can amp. Kinda wished raven didn't die or her and yang had more closure in the final scene. Did like the idea of Jacques send off but would've preferred some closure with him and winter. Amazing overall tho, surprised you don't study some animation to make your amazing rewrites into fruition!
