God damnit why isn't this the real volume 8, I love this If Ciel were Penny's sister I would expect a joke where Penny is like 'This is my biological sister!' and everyone is like ???? and Penny is like _'Biological!'_ and pinches Ciel's fleshy arm or maybe her cheek, 'As opposed to- _mechanical!'_ and then Penny knocks on her own head which makes a clang clang noise, and Ciel deadpan goes 'I don't think they were expecting me to be a robot', and Ruby's just like 'At this point I don't think I can tell the difference anymore.' killing Cinder makes a lot of sense, as she feels like a base villain that's being stretched too thin. It's also a good way to push Emerald away from Salem's side, since she wouldn't have any attachments left on that side

@@justynhill4814 Thats the thing though, Cinder was clever in setting up for the finale, but she wasnt clever when it actually happened. She used Watts' knowledge to her advantage, realizing that he's the most valuable asset...yet kills him in a fire. She plans for Neo to steal the spear since she knows Neo is the most useful in objective-oriented missions...yet she lets her fall despite Neo being more useful alive. In the end, she's still our villain who's good at planning events, but never does plan for when the plan doesnt work, or never thinks about her actions after the plan gets carried out, nothing has really changed. Personally, I wouldnt call her clever. She had an upper hand, ofcourse, but it wasnt through her own thinking. All she did was use the Relic of Knowledge like how Ruby and the others were planning to use the Relic of Creation.

@@justynhill4814 I know that there's a clear regression of her character between the beginning volumes and volume 4. Volume 8 really just had her relearning to play things smart like in volumes 1-3. What bothers me more is how she's written, with all the villain monologues and stuff. It's so stale after so many volumes. If the writers planned to keep her around more, they should've tried writing her differently with time to keep things fresh. They were definitely onto something for a while. I liked when she was just an angry brute in volume 7, but having her go back to the norm in 8 was just tiring like "oh, this again, ". They could've kept her personality like that if they had fleshed out her beliefs or ideals properly. Than they could add more weight behind her words, like the implications from some of her dialogue in 7. I'm not asking for her to become a good person, I'm asking that she change in a way that gives her more weight or keeps things interesting. Thanks for reading

Okay, first thing, I need a scene of CRWBY sitting around a table in the meeting room discussing the volume, and then have you come through the door Kool-Aid man style, and declare in your best MCU Star Lord impersonation, "I like your story, except, it sucks. So, let me tell the story, and that way, it might be really good." But in all seriousness, your version (thus far) of this volume is much better than what we got. In my head, I could picture each of the scenes and conversations you laid out, and was overly wishing that was how the volume actually went down. Very well done ^_^

The idea I have for Cinder's backstory was a sort of twist, her original family is shitty, abusive, etc, she eventually gets a new step family and surprise surprise, they treat her like she is part of the family. Over time, Cinder's old family tries to get her back and through some misfortune she ends up losing the only real family she had. Eventually, an odd pale woman visits Cinder's home and offers her sympathy, wisdom, etc. It's revealed that this is Salem, and she basically offers Cinder a chance at not only a better life but a chance to make a better world, Cinder joins, her biological family is offed, so on and so forth.

I was thinking the twins from the hotel would be also suffering like her and would have sympathy for Cinder. Same thing happens with the hunter and eventually the twins find out about it. Cinder tells them to keep it a secret because afterwards she will leave. They wish her luck and go about their days. Eventually the twins end up betraying Cinder because they don’t want to be left behind and they expose what she is doing. The twins are still alive when the hunter shows up and the same thing still happens. After that, they beg for Cinder to spare them but she doesn’t.

You know I still think that the writers should've just stuck with the whole "young women going through a huntsmen academy and developing as a whole" instead of the dramatic turn the show took. While I like some of the twists that happened during the fall of Beacon, in the end it resulted in a hole ridden story overall that continued to spiral downwards into madness. I feel that if the show stuck with that idea of "kids going through school and training N stuff" it would play to the writers strengths, allowing for a more slice-of-life story with drama, comedy, and ample amounts of action thrown in. Fully utilizing, and fleshing out the characters, while also giving them time to build the world and flesh it out more (since they can focus on Beacon and not necessarily have to talk about other parts of the world, while they piece together what that might be like for future seasons). Hell, they could've also introduced Salem and the destroy-the-world plot later on and still hit some of the same story threads like with the present RWBY.

Well, since you mentioned Ciel's mother was the female scientist, who is white, it makes enough sense to make Penny white in turn. Kinda like reverse diversification or Pietro's way of teaching Ciel not to see color in people by making her sister someone with an almost opposite skin tone. No need to beat yourself up about this. Yes, black Penny would have been ideal, but in the context you've created it makes sense.

Well. 2 Hours later. You've done an excellent job of being creative with the pieces sat up by Season, and putting them back together in a more coherent way. Gotta admit, I am not so sure about where you're going with the Ciel character, but I see what you're doing with ReNora, and I am kinda here for it. (Salvaging Hazel is also *chefs kiss* with the added twist). There's less focus on set-pieces, more focus on dialogue-through-fight scenes. One of the bigger hurdles I see in these thing are often the lack of coherency in the amount of screen-time dedicated to each character, and I'm not sure if I would have prioritized like that, but I am vividly imagining all of this, and it goes to show how well you've managed to hone in on the vibe and style of the show, while still keeping it a lot smoother than the original setup. 8/10 Thomas, thanks for doing this and I will eagerly await the next part.

God this was better and Cinder's fall and Emerald's turn to the light side was so good and so gratifying. I'm a little off put by Neo wanting revenge on Cinder and not Ruby but I like that she stabbed Cinder in the back. I'm also living for Ciel being included and Blake and Yang actually having a conversation on their past and actually admit their feelings (well Yang anyway) and settle things. Raven actually has a purpose and does shit and Ironwood is genuinely not really bad but he's not making decisions people would get behind. Taking advantage of Ren's sense of responsibility and using it while putting it to the test with Nora and Jaune and the others was nice and added real uncontrived drama. Salem showing a softer touch albeit with hints of darker intentions is really what her character needed as she was a lackluster presence in the actual Volume 8 despite how she was the whole big bad of the season. All in all I give a 11/10 would watch again and Rooster Teeth needs to quit being salty and hire you Thom this was gold.

I feel like the only reason Neo wanting revenge on Cinder is only off-putting because it's what's already been established. We know based on his last words that Roman wasn't working for Cinder and Salem willingly, and it'd make a lot of sense for Neo to hold Cinder accountable for Roman dying, since it's essentially her fault by extension and it paints Neo as mature enough to know that she doesn't have the full context of how Roman died, since she was BFR'd before it happened

What I enjoy about your rewrite is it really captures the all encompassing and terrifying power of Salem in a way I feel the series failed to. The overwhelming amount of Grimm, the chaos at every turn, the way Salem is consistently collective and softly brings others to her side, making her truly feel inevitable. A definite improvement!

Personally, i feel like a lot of the end of the volume was just for shock value without weight Ironwood’s fight with the kids, elm’s death, watt’s death, everyone falling, atlas crushing mantle, Ironwood killing Jaque, the hound being a silver eyed faunus (although i can see why that needs to be established) Hazel’s death, the main cast seeing salem in person for the first time, winter becoming the winter maiden, the kids taking the staff instead of leaving it in the vault Like, as far as the team is aware, penny (another death for the sake of shock) is the maiden, and is trustworthy, i get taking the lamp, raven can’t really be trusted But the staff? The weird ass way the bridges were constructed (sloped, looks like slippery as hell, no guardrails), the ‘door’ being in the middle of a sandstorm filled with grimm Like, who did the cocaine? the entirety of it, i know RT has a stockpile, but some main storyboard person must’ve gone apeshit

I saw something once that explained that team RWBY don't or hardly have their own individual characters and instead operate in a hive mind such as when Ozpin's "dark secret" was revealed they all automatically decided he was an asshole and even watched and did nothing as Qrow PUNCHED A LITERAL CHILD. Another moment is their response to Ironwood and his plan to try and save who he could instead of trying to save Mantle and risking losing everyone. Immediately he's a psychopath with zero redeeming qualities but Emerald a girl who had a large role in the fall of Beacon is allowed to help them with no severe consequences. I've already ranted before how Irowood and his character were mistreated during this and the previous volume but basically he was right and tried to make best of a horrible and sucky situation so he had to make the tough choices and seem like the bad guy in the eyes of some people because that's what a leader has to do sometimes. Also I am in love with this rewrite.

It's one of the main issues in the show. The writers have characters make choices or actions because the plot requires these things to happen. But they never consider if these are actions or choices the characters would make based on what we know about them, so they feel like puppets manipulated by the writers with no sense of individuality. Team RWBY gets mad at Ozpin because the plot demands they get mad, Ironwood is a psychopath because the plot demands he's a psychopath, Emerald is forgiven immediately because the plot demands she's forgiven, etc.

​@@neofulcrum5013 True but like I said I personally believe his plan was the best in that horrible situation, yes it sucked and yes the plan wasn't "morally right" but it was the best in a horrible situation and the fact that they didn't try to reason with him such as Weiss saying that the Schnee Dust Company had access to flying cargo ships and could quickly evacuate as many as they could or have Yang and Blake try and explain their reasoning for going to Robyn even though they were in the wrong for going to Robyn when they virtually knew nothing about her other than what they learned at face value but that's a whole other subject.

Quick comment on the Penny thing. You said Ciels mom was the female scientist from the picture. He may have made Penny somewhat in her image to help remember her. Also you could see it as a large amount of his founding was given by the Atlas council who wanted Penny to look more like the largest part of the Atlas population. (Since you know. The rest of Remnant seems to have their populations based on certain ethic groups like Asians in Mistral. And Atlas being in the north would logically have a large white population) so Peatro was forced to make her like that.

It's sad we didn't get Cinder's backstory back in volume 6 when the faunus were a big deal because right before cinder was probably a faunas slave working at the hotel. Weiss VS Winter! I know I'm not the greatest that fight choreography, but I'm will throw in my D&D rain of style of combat to do with some good old-fashioned character influences. I'm not going to go into the heavy details but I would prefer this to be a glyph battle, since we both know that their semblance is using their glyphs and their dust, to give their glyphs symbols unique flair and style. First off I would open up with them walking into the room, starting off with their little argument over with the camera focusing on their weaponry Weiss you could only see three of the dusts that she has already preloaded into her blade, one is clearly lightning, one is a fine red most likely fire and the last one is dark black referencing the fact that she still has all of the team or be behind her each one of the colors corresponding to the colors of her teammate. Meanwhile you can already see that winters blades are getting ready to split, and a slight extra adjustment has been added recently as there is a series of buttons on the side of each one of her blades showing off a corresponding showing off colors of different dusts. As the battle begins they both start drawing glyphs at different locations, now being so fast with their droppings that it doesn't even look like that they are even standing near the area. Winters constantly placing landmines after landmine, each with a corresponding different effect explosives sonic freezing even a stinging burn of acid melting through some of the outfit. Weiss makes a sly remark like she's teasing her sister by saying thankfully this is my from my closet. But still being kept force moving making it harder and harder for her to summon on the run. Then winter messes up and steps on a glyph she thinks it's one of her own so she can just turn it off, but then the black dust shows off exactly what it is winter falls asleep. "So what black dust does? I wonder if this works out well and grim maybe I'll get more points." Teasing as she knows that she's going to be pulling a joke on Ruby later. Yes I am going to put in some levity into this battle and, of greater fan will correct me if they've already shown what black dust actually does but considering that I've never seen any clips showing it will be interesting to play up the fact that black dust is not actually a sleeping powder but more or less it's its own desire of doing dark actions and sometimes putting someone to sleep is placing them in darkness, be more geared around status affects, but when it's so low just knocked out.

2:13:00 -Theory: Gretchen is the Hound.... maybe?? This theory doesn't have much to go of but I'm sticking to it. Okay so, in this rewrite Gretchen has silver eyes right? Gretchen "died" on a mission which may have involved Salem since she wanted silver-eyed warriors. The story of Gretchen's death sound very similar to Summer's death, so similar that I think that Ruby's theory that Summer may be a hound or was hunted to become a hound also applies to Gretchen. Lastly, the way the hound "glances"(I forgot that it doesn't has eye until just now lol) at hazel specifically is very......odd. That's all +(Thomas, you can delete this comment if you want this to be a surprise twist) +(Now that I've said that, I'm starting to doubt my theory a little)

Wow. This was overall fantastic and it's clear you put so much effort into this video. You've given me a lot to think about so i'll try and lay into the void for my sake. I'm gonna skip around a bit because there's no way I can go through it in order. Ren: Oh my god I love this idea for Ren. It makes sense, fully utilises what was alluded to in Vol.7 and adds such real tension to the relationship with Nora. I don't think I like the idea of giving up the character moments they got in Vol.8 as those were some of my favourite in the series, but I think the overall direction leads to them being more interesting seperate characters. Yang and Blake: I suppose I'll get the controversial one out of the way quickly. I've never been a fan of the bumblebee ship, as I feel like it lacks the groundwork of some of the other on-screen relationships and interferes a lot with their character and story arcs. That being said, one of my major gripes, to quote "So this is basically RWBY", is that Yang and Blake "not talked" their way into being girlfriends. So if nothing else, having them actually talk about how they feel, especially in a way that makes use of Yang's more anxtey nature as of late, makes me feel a lot more comfortable with the idea. Qrow: What an idiot. Believable with how he's been written lately? Absolutely. But he's still an idiot for charging off 1 v x against the BBEG. At this point I don't think there's much that can be done about his character for me personally, which is a shame considering he used to be one of my favourites, but by keeping clover alive in order to explore that dynamic more I can at least tolerate his inclusion. Who knows he might actually regain his competance after finding inspiration in his relationship with Clover. Overall pretty happy with the direction you've chosen for him. Cinder: YES. YES YES YES. While it pains me that this means we don't get Arthur's original Vol.8 speech to her, it's nice to finally see her get her come upunce after being such a pathetic villain for so long. Do I think she died in that grimm pool? Absolutley not. My general rule of "no corpse, no kill" won't let me believe it. That being said, I can't wait to see how she comes out the other side, and she is going to be PISSED. I like the idea of how the fight played out too, with it being Emerald who made the final move. I've always thought that it was incredibly stupid that Neo ACTUALLY sided with Cinder and was shocked by her betrayal, and making it the other way around was so cathartic. I think everything you did in this regard was as close to perfect as I can imagine. Raven: I think Raven might be the single most underused and misrepresented character in all of RWBY. And it makes sense, as much as it can with the canon writing, as to why that is. We only ever see her from Yang's perspective, which I have multiple gripes with, but she's never given a fair shake. Here, she's not only useful in her own right, but important for the development of her OWN DAUGHTER. I hope that in canon Vol.9 she's the way that RWBYNJ get off the mystical beach thing and back into the action, as that'd kill multiple birds with one stone. It's also a nice way to bring Tai back into the story, and although he's only briefly mentioned, I think your portrayal of him is accurate. Salem: I simply love the hauntingly beautiful grey Salem you have painted. It makes her so much more interesting as a BBEG and is the kind of morally grey that RT THINKS they can write. Stunning, amazing, what a queen (literally). Still terrifying though, just to be clear. The Schnee's: Wait, you're telling me that having the characters families actually talk about their issues leads to interesting developments on all sides? Incredible. Who would've thought. Seriously though, good job on incorporating their situation into the story. As you can probably guess, I'm running a little short on time here with a lot more to say, but for now I'd just once again like to thank you for all the effort you put into this video and I'm not exxagerating when I can say I'm looking forward to the part 2 of this rewrite as much as Vol.9

Imo, if clover was going to die, have him die in the crash, you can still have qrow feel guilty for it, since they fought prior to it, and maybe have qrow fight Terrian 1v1 with 1 last boost of good luck as qrow who’s losing the fight falls into a sink hole where he thinks his bad luck his killing him, just to find the clover pin and realize that it was good luck he fell down here, not bad luck.

Actual fight scenes? In MY rwby? It's more likely than you think! But genuinely this was an incredible ride. It took me several sessions to get through the whole thing but it was absolutely worth it. I love this version of the plotline where we get all the things the show has held back from us for years; like meaningful character interactions, growth, conflict that makes sense, and the continuation of narrative arcs that have been building for years. It sucks that the actual product doesn't have these factors but that just made this rewrite SO GOOD to consume. Maybe it's sad that "good writing" is the ultimate wish fulfilment for this series? But either way, thank you for taking the time to share this in such a fun way. You had me tearing up especially over characters like Emerald in a way the show has never achieved and uGH THE CONVERSATION BETWEEN YANG AND BLAKE? THE TEARS. OH GOD. It's clear this was written with a lot of love for the characters and we DESERVE this closure!!.
