As someone who has taken chem in undergrad, the way chemistry terms are being thrown around is so confusing but hilarious. A hydrogen bond is not a thing that can be “floating around”, it describes the behavior of molecules. It is when certain elements within a molecule (fluorine, oxygen, or nitrogen) are attracted to hydrogen (such as the hydrogen in water which is why water “breaks” the bonds). These bonds will easily reform once the water evaporates away, reverting the hair. From my understanding, disulfide bonds are a type of covalent bond (connecting the elements together that make up a molecule). Breaking these would break up the actual molecules that make up your hair.

I’m starting to believe a basic chemistry and biology class and how it relates to hair, may be needed in cosmetology school. It’s disheartening to hear how many stylist lack basic understanding of chemistry/ biology 101 concepts. Especially since they’re playing in peoples hair.

I stopped following her a long time ago. Can't stomach her negativity. Nothing we're doing is right. We are all a bunch of idiots because we do what's always worked for us. She finds something wrong in absolutely everything but actually doesn't offer any useful advice. I also don't take advice from anyone using trade jargon. If they can't explain something in terms everyone can understand, then I don't listen. Its like trying to show how superior she is. There are YTers who know way more than her and can explain it so everyone understands. Thats how you know someone knows their stuff .... They can explain it to the layperson following them. If you're gonna post on YT you know you're dealing with ordinary people, not other stylists. Nobody could make anyone give up hair if you're successful. She could have just stopped posting crap on YT and she posted generic stuff like new product, her work, make-up, etc. There are many stylists who do that and are very successful at it. They have no issues with the next guy. 13:48 now that's what gets my back up..... Over- explaining ..... Then you know they're trifling . I don't believe in dry detangling, esp when tangled. I believe that sometimes build up kinda glues the hair together. So after washing hair and with conditioner it's easier to detangle. I worked in a salon as a shampoo girl when I was in high school. They left the detangling to me cos I was better at it. I always did a clarifying wash and the conditioner with great slip and a wide toothed comb, thereafter a deep conditioning treatment if needed and I don't have a stitch of cosmetology theory.

I thought Cyn said use oil to detangle? 😇
@CurlyCrowie
@CurlyCrowie 2 ай бұрын
She and several others say dry detangle with oil. While I don't totally disagree, in cases with severe matting, a wash and then detangling with conditioner is best in my experience. I also have to add my community are mostly mixed race ..... Name the race and you'll find it in our genes. our hair ranges from type 1 to about 4a. There are 4c but its not that common. So I am speaking from a mixed race pov. When you wash away the gunk glueing hair together first, detangling becomes easier. On the other hand, my personal experience as a kid is my mom would oil my hair and brush and style daily. I always had oil on my hair and my hair was NEVER badly tangled. It took 5 mins on a bad day. So their idea isnt totally wrong Imo if the hair isn't too badly matted and dirty. XX

I read the article. Thank you for providing this information. I can understand now why she took certain pieces of data from this article to promote dry detangling method. It appears as though the earlier part of the article might support her claim. But as I read further, and understanding, cellular makeup and lipid profile of African-American hair, I understand your perspective. I quote from the article,“breakage does not happen in isolation. In reality, it often happens while hair is brushed or combed. The unique morphology of African-American hair makes it difficult to untangle and comb when dry. However, when wet it becomes straighter and more easier to comb. This is opposite to straight hair.“ I appreciate this article. Thank you for this stream of information.❤❤

I agree with you a 💯percent. I watch both you and Cyn Doll's channel. I took the time to listen to some of the things she said on her channel to later realizing that some of the things she stated in regards to natural hair did not make since. Take for instance the statement about Hydrogen bonds. Just as you stated if a person never went to college to take a chemistry class would not know that bonds just don't float around in the atmosphere. When bond are broken they remain attached to one another but rearrange the order in which they were originally attached to one another. In simple terms starting off with a strong bond to forming a weaker bond. Also I tried detangling my hair dry and took the necessary measures to be gentle as possible to end up with more breakage and damage to my natural hair. Plus Cyn Doll doesn't believe heat is bad for natural leaving views to believe that using heat on their hair all the time even if it's just a blow drier will cause no harm. Hmm tried blow dry my hair once a month and my hair became dry and brittle and started to tangle up more wanting to latch on to other hair strands like velcro. The only thing Cyn Doll was right about is that people have a tendency to use to much products on their hair. I'll be mostly listening and watching your channel more in the future because it relates more to what I believe will help my natural hair to be more healthy and thrive. Thank you for your knowledge you give your viewers it's priceless!!! Love your channel.

The words used in the study for the part talking about afro textured hair while wet made it seem like what cyndoll was saying was actually true. They shoulda replaced words like fragile and weak with flexible and relaxed. I also wanna know if there was truly more breakage with wet hair or if that was just shed hair that was easier to get out while the hair was in a more malible state. While this is a great study the wording used makes me think if was written by someone not familiar with natural hair even tho thats obviously not the case. Hopefully people don't get confused when reading up on this study.
@AfrikanHairGod
@AfrikanHairGod 3 ай бұрын
I agree. The basic point of the study is that natural hair resists micro tears in the cortex layer when wet. In theory the hair should be weaker and experience damage like the other hair types but afro hair has a different response and behavior

The article didn’t back up when she says we shouldn’t detangle our hair while wet, the article said the solution is to comb the hair while it is wet with conditioner to reduce breakage. Cyn doll says we should never do that. I always believed and knew the hair is weaker when wet because if you detangle the hair improperly while wet, you can stretch and pull it so much that it breaks. So Cyn doll isn’t saying anything we don’t know. There’s a balance when detangling natural hair. Wet is best to reduce breakage BUT you MUST be gentle. Take 1 section at a time. And add some sort of detangler or conditioner. My natural hair grows to hip length while being massively thick. I NEVER detangle on dry hair because it can cause more breakage than if you detangle it wet.

Her saying she's the reason I grew is more of an insult to me than her lying on me. If I wanted clout I'd piggyback off of Brad mondo or will on a whim, both of which people know that I don't like to react to. No shade to Will but his high energy and frequent meme style just isn't for me and that's 👌he's for who he's for.

@AfrikanHairGod I fully believe she meant it as an insult. Your channel grew not because of her. It grew in spite of her. She was literally one of many out here throwing out all sorts of false facts and leaning into bad hair care practices, gaslighting the heck out of everyone. Your channel grew because you called this out and educated with actual facts. It was the confirmation we needed to keep doing what we're doing when everyone was telling us we're wrong and that we needed to do this new stuff. So if anything, if she feels she contributed to your growth, that's basic admittance of her lack hair care knowledge. Literally "you grew because of my bad information!! You're welcome!!!" 🤣

I know this might be overthinking but even though natural hair is strong enough and its easier to detangle wet can you make the argument that it could be healtiest to dry detangle with a lubricant(oil) since the hair has all its strength? Personally, I think i have the best detangling when my hair is damp(not wet) with an oil heavy cream like a hair milk.
@AfrikanHairGod

No because hair doesn't have the elasticity it needs to work thru tangles dry. I don't think hair detangles best fully saturated all the time but it depends on the hair and situation. Hair gains at least 50% more elasticity when wet vs dry which helps to resist breakage. That's precisely what the article concluded.

@AfrikanHairGod I see. So, despite the hair technically being a bit weaker when wet, any "potential damage" that could happen with the hair being detangled wet is significantly less compared to the damage done by detangling it dry.

@@iateyursandwiches I think you should let it make sense and let it work for you. If you feel like you can navigate your hair better damp or dry, I think you should continue to do so. There are too many variables to give absolutes for natural hair.

@AfrikanHairGod oh I will[handle it damp]. I guess I was trying to make a conceptual idea on why kinky/curly natural hair is different from straighter hair. Regardless, thanks for always being there answer questions and help us understand our hair.

@@iateyursandwiches if this was cyn she would've called you an idiot for evenasking this question and blocked you😂😂 No shade btw, but the contrast in the way these two navigate audience interactions just tickles me.
