To be honest though, the fact that he was aware of what he was doing and didn't ask for a heap of stuff is a testament to your parenting. You and your wife have done a great job reaching your kids restraint and also how to be healthy, because a lot of other kids may have asked for a lot of junk food all day. And that's awesome

Jimmy... I remember saying ‘Yes!’ to my kids when they asked to see Jimmy Giggle at our Westfield... and we lined up for 5 hours... (hoot, hoot). But that’s what Dads do! (It was actually awesome and we had a great day, got a photo with you... I probably drink too much coffee). Great video mate - we need more great examples of Dads online. I'm watching this two years late but I genuinely love this. It would have been a good birthday day to have a 'yes day' or something like that when I was a kid. So impressed by this gesture and how great your boy is too. We don't see this stuff enough! Thanks for posting, you are a great family.

Awe. We had this same tradition. We called it King’s Day where you get to make all the decisions for the day. My boys had zero self control. Chocolate for breakfast, video games all day. That’s why it was once a year. 😄

Funny how easy it can be to bring a smile to kids’ faces. Yesterday my moment was taking my 5 year old niece on her first bus ride. It only lasted 5 minutes but damn she was so super excited. A five minute ride to the shops, 12 min wait to come back (just enough time to buy a chocolate bar) and then home with a short stop at a park. Day made.

My eldest is in his mid 20s. For his 4th birthday he asked for a ride on an escalator. That's it. So I took him to Melbourne Central and we rode (?) up and down every escalator there is for an hour. He slept all the way home on the train😁

I have found that saying yes (to students) has an amazing effect on things. Sometimes it is now what I 'think' they should do, but to see the results makes me think whether I should consider their direction in the future! On the other hand, if they ask something that they already know the answer to, I ask them 'what if I said no?' to make them think and also encourage them to be independent the next time that question appears in their mind..... So far, so good and it dicourages negative interaction
