Why are people such douche bags? I mean really how far do you want to take it? by your standards it should be a long bed... right?....or if you really want a TrUCk get a used truck for a fraction of the cost with a v8 so you could actually haul something. Single cab short bed trucks are popular because they look sporty... not because they are better at being trucks. Happy New Year dip shit.

The FX4 package is very good to have up here in the high desert in northern AZ. There are 2 paved roads in an area at least the size if Houston. I have 12,000 miles on my short cab F-150 and the skid plates show signs of doing their job. When you have conditions up here with snow on top of a layer of ice, or many sandwiches of ice and snow, the locking diff really comes in handy. The only thing I don’t use in the off-road package is the hill decent control.

@@ham7357 it sounds like you’re the dipshit. I can fit just about anything I need to put in my 6’ bed. The short wheelbase is outstanding if you live way out in the middle of nowhere and you’re on dirt roads in the woods or blazing a trail in the woods. And the ecoboost has WAY MORE torque at under 3,000 rpms than any modern v8-namely the 5.0. Granted, it would be nice to have the 8’ bed with a tool box, but I’d be sacrificing my maneuverability out in the brush.

His truck has a lot of small options, plus 4x4 and the sport package, that is why the MSRP was over 40k. Any xl base with 4x4, engine upgrade and zero other options is at 40k, so he basically added some options to equal an engine upgrade. 40k is the new base price for 4x4. It is 2020, not 1990.

Indeed it is. Quite frankly, I wouldn't pay any more than 30K for a basic truck like this brand new. It's the options that are the killer. This truck really shouldn't be towing anything heavier than 2500lbs...it's a grocery getter. Nothing wrong with that but if I wanted a truck like this just to tool around town, I'd order it with this engine but with no more than $2000 worth of options...maybe just the power package. 2wd and if I wanted more grunt, I'd just install an electronic locking rear differential...those stock 4wd units are quite heavy. It's a nice truck he has here...it's too bad he regrets the engine. For what he has, perhaps he should have bought a late model used Nissan Frontier...the gas mileage wouldn't be as good but he would have saved more than 10K and the insurance, registration would be cheap. Those Frontiers are good trucks.

Back in 1972 Ford’s 302, 5.0 made a whopping 135 hp 243 ft. lbs. torque got around 11 mpg, first year of emissions, had one in a Mustang, I got around 12 mpg. Your engine makes 290 hp and 265 torque you get 20+ mpg with 4wd. You have air, tinted windows, a great sounding radio, rides and drives like a Cadillac and even though us old guys hate to admit it, take care of it and 250k ain’t out of the question. Other than vent windows your truck is superior in every way, built to exact tolerances and quality is light years ahead of 1972 F100. It too was “meh” on acceleration and you had to coax it and sweet talk it to make it accelerate at all on the highway. But it faithfully pulled my little 16’ boat all over the US and followed me around to 3 different military assignments in 3 completely different climates (IL, CO, and TX). At times I did not appreciate the how basic the truck was and yearned for power windows, automatic trans, power door locks, etc... but after I traded the truck I regretted it, to this day I wish I had kept it. Hopefully you will grow to love your little mediocre motor over time.

@@krasnaludek298 Why will gas double or triple? It's supply & demand. The more ev cars, the less demand for oil, the more surplus of oil. That means cheap gas! I have a 2015 model F150 supercrew 2WD with the 3.5 NA TiVCT and I tow regularly with it hauling cars. I have hauled 8000lbs with it and it handled it fine. It's not a speed demon, but it does what it needs to do and doesn't complain. AND I also have 220k miles on the truck and have never had to perform any major mechanical repairs. Yeah it doesn't snatch a load around like a diesel or the ecoboost, but hauling a 20' double axle 2500lb car hauler trailer with full size 5500lb trucks, it really surprises me! Don't be scared if you're on the fence about the base V6 motors!! Take it from someone who uses their truck like a truck and not only hauling a sack or two of pre packaged firewood from the gas station to a marshmellow roast!!

Want a particular engine choice.... BOOM - you're in an XLT!.... Want some specific option without a package - sorry - please add the "package" and then you might as well upgrade to the trim level that includes it and a bunch of other stuff you really don't want... Honestly, it's very costly to offer al-a-carte options and it's why pretty much only GM still does it (but they don't make a big deal about it) dealerships order based on what they "think" most people will order and what options they know will be profitable (either by the options themselves or be desirable in dealer trades). Ford has run the numbers - GM still does business they way (largely) they have for 60 years - minus a few divisions since 2009. I have no doubt that if you wanted a regular cab, short bed, with the most powerful engine, blue exterior with red interior, cruise control, power locks, manual windows, plow package, no tow package, and a Bose sound system you could order it. With Ford or RAM - good luck....

I'll bet that engine with the six speed will last forever if maintained. I have a 2014 Ford Flex with the 3.5 brother of this engine and the six speed automatic. It goes and goes and goes . . . and yours will be even better because, from what I understand, mine has the sometimes troublesome internal water pump because it's a front wheel drive; yours has the desired exterior pump because it's a rear wheel drive. And I think the six speed is terrific, I can't imagine better; don't know why they'd risk trouble with a complex 10 speed - the pennies you save on gas will mean nothing if you have tranny problems later on. If I were buying a Ford, I would get that exact same truck, except with the 8 foot bed. I don't tow much, and if I do it's just a trailer load to the dump. Mine's been fantastic . . . love Fords!

Good review and nice truck! I'm a regular cab guy also, but I like the long bed for hauling more cargo and lumber. The short bed does look sportier. I think a perfect combination for options for a basic truck would be XL trim, the 101A package to get cruise, power windows, power locks etc., 5.0L engine, 3.31:1 rear axle with the locker, trailer hitch, chrome package to get the bumpers and aluminum wheels, 36 gallon fuel tank and the spray in bed liner. No turbos to worry about, the fabulous 5.0L engine with a good exhaust note, plenty of power, good reliability and fuel economy and a long range between fill ups. What more do you need?

It was sold to the original owner 12 months before I bought it from the dealer in New Braunfels Texas in February, 2020. It now has 21,000 miles on it. I don't have anything to tow, so the 3.3 litre works great for me. I'm retired, and do woodworking projects, and use it to haul plywood and lumber. I live in the Texas hill country, and lots of hilly and curving roads. My mileage stays close to 23.5 - 24.0 around the hill country. When I get out of the hill country on interstate highways I get 25.0 to 25.5 mpg, but I do drive the speed limit, 70 or 75. I'm very happy with this truck. The dealer was asking $21,000 + TTL. I offered $21,000 out the door, and they did the deal. Barry

I paid $32k for my STX Crew Cab with what you described as the more desirable 2.7 however not a 4x4 but otherwise the same. (4x4 a waste of money with more stuff to go wrong if living in Texas and not towing - hence my choice) I guess that Ford 0% finance package removed a rebate. They offered me the 0% but then the $5k rebate went away. Probably the reason for such a high price.

Nice truck and color! I ordered a 2016 reg cab XLT with fx4 and 5.0 coyote. I had ordered a 2014 Ram Cummins before but grew tired of the size. I decided I wanted a shorter pickup so got my F150. I love it and because of my health the last few years it has been in the garage and today has 12,800 miles on it!

I have a 2011 long bed with the v6. I am a carpenter and it is a very practical and reliable vehicle. It’s not fast but not underpowered for a work vehicle. All my plywood and 2x4s fit inside the tailgate closed. If you run a business, you are concerned about reliability and earning a living. I don’t care about performance and how the exhaust sounds.

Great review. The near-extinct RCSB was also the only truck for me, but that classic configuration is now available only from Ford. My interior looks exactly like yours minus weather tech. In 2015, I got the regular cab, XL, standard bed 2wd chrome package; but with the 2.7L Ecoboost that was then mated to the 6-speed. It has 3.31 gears, which is no longer available with the 2.7L. I now have 60K on the odometer and average 23.5 mpg, tank-to-tank average in daily driving, but I take it easy and live in a rural area. The 2.7 stuggles to meet the highway estimate, but at least in this light variant, blows away the city rating. Back when I got mine, the small Ecoboost was a mere $800 premium and has proven worth it for the exact reason you mention. I don't tow but appreciate the refinement the turbo brings. Mine will climb a 5% grade with a headwind in 5th gear at 1850 RPM; and with no headwind, it will sometimes cruise right up that same hill in 6th gear at 1500 RPM at 59 mph. It supposedly has over 90% of its peak torque at 1900 RPM and it drives like it does. I would not have ever bought my truck unless I had found one with that little Ecoboost, because I'm just addicted to the refinement turbo charging brings to smaller engines making them behave while cruising much like larger engines. I prefer the looks of yours though. Mine has that ugly chrome, but the power train was my priority and choices are limited. Mine is that dark Gem Green that's been discontinued. I've done the same tinting to my glass but had to do the back as well. I had to have my liner sprayed in after market. I think I'll get a matt to help with the sliding. Thanks for the tip. Raising the front likely hurts your highway mpg a little. Like your truck and review. Looks sweet and my favorite type; the only type for me; a RCSB.

You have the same taste in trucks that I have. I own an 95 4wd short bed, reg cab f150xl 5.0. Because of my budget and what I could find i bought a 2012 with the exact same specs except it has the 3.7l V6. I was very picky on wanting a n/a engine. Its the base model with the vinyl interior and rubber floors which i think is more of a premium option. You have a nice truck.

From reading and listening to many people , anything smaller than a 5.0 V8 Wont last in a truck , the ecoboost is a roost and the engine has to work hard at high RPMs to get er done , so they will not last long as the V8. I have proven that to myself as my F150 4by4 excab 5.4 has well over 200.000 miles and even have the original trans . I took care of my baby and she has been a great ole girl :) Love my Silver stepside 2000 f150 :)
