I’ve been watchig Ruby for a few years and tried the whole strict scheduling thing myself. Later on did loads of research on it, to understand why it made me feel the way it did. While scheduling your time is important, it actually is very not healthy to do this at such an extent level as you approach adulthood, because one day either at work or having children, when you no longer are fully in control of your time and there are unexpected changes in your timetable, this will cause distress and anxiety (when it shouldn’t!). I recommend challenging yourself to make sure you can still survive without time restrictions, and once every few months plan a week with absolutely no timetables or schedules. 💕

omg this comment has helped me so much! no wonder i've been feeling so stressed. thank you so much, you've really opened my eyes. i just feel like everywhere all i've seen is productivity/success=tight routines :/ and I kept wondering why i'm so overwhelmed all the time. makes so much sense now so thank you :)
@dan57214 жыл бұрын
100% the best routines are those crafted of to-do lists. I’m on the autism spectrum (we are famously reliant on tight routines) and what this means for me is I need certainty, which is what a lot of people use the routine for. I have consciously reduced my reliance on timetabled routines because I get into habits easily. I now make to-do lists, and then know that that is what my day looks like and pick and choose what tasks I do when. Now timetables give me anxiety because I know it means I can’t necessarily take breaks when I need to and if I fall of the timetable I feel like it’s all gone wrong and it’s a lost cause so don’t do anything. I don’t make revision timetables or anything like that, I just make sure I do everything and do it when I feel like (whilst still meeting deadlines). For routines there is no times again, but I do do everything in the same order, right down to which sock I put on first, because this means everything is in its place and I do everything I need to do (short-term memory is a killer, if I didn’t do everything in the same order I would regularly forget to do things like brush my teeth). I think having a certain level of planning and predictability in your day is important to get things done and feeling calm with knowing what to expect (especially for people like me), but long term planning all your time ends up holding you back, for me reducing my reliance on timetables has been the key to unlocking both my academic potential and my entire independence, because I keep the routine and strict order for when I need it (like in the morning) but I can take breaks when I need to, add in extra tasks and work it around my list etc.
@Adelaideanegg4 жыл бұрын
I agree with this, but personally I have two extremes (I’m still in high school) either I can’t do work, don’t feed my pets often enough, have a super messy room, binge watch Netflix, don’t get enough sleep, don’t do anything that makes me feel like I’m enjoying my life. Or I schedule everything, and get on top of things but find less time to do what I love. earlier this year I was extremely organised, but then during home school fell into a rut of the unorganised habits. Right now I’m starting to find a balance. Just though you should know, I felt more anxious when I was unorganised, and I was disliking myself. I think some people like open ended stuff more and some like everything set in stone.

As a year 13 student doing their A level exams soon, personally I find it much better to instead of making a revision timetable, make a retrospective revision timetable. Ali Abudal on KZbin has an amazing video about it, but essentially instead of saying you're going to revise at this specific time, you make a timetable of all your different topics in subjects and then decide which ones you're gonna revise on which days and then just do those topics whenever during the day. Stuff happens so sticking to an exact timetable can be really difficult and end up stressing you out if you don't stick to it

@@camembertfanpage There are many good videos on it on YT, so if you would like to know what exactly it is, these are the best resource. There is heavy emphasis in executive dysfunction on not being able to maintain concentration for long, not being able to focus after a distraction, being generally indecisive, having low motivation despite having every reason to be, etc. And these typically don't improve if someone is well-rested and focused. It's quite a more complex thing - definitely do read up on it. It is also helpful to note that executive dysfunction is typically comorbid with ADD or ADHD, particularly ADHD in adulthood - most people curious about their executive functioning would never have considered the possibility that they may have these.

Perfection is demanded when it is needed--not always. However, being organized and self-disciplined do not always mean that you are a perfectionist. Yet, when the perfection is required, it can be assumed that an organized person can deliver easily. Because she or he is always working around it. But I should add an exception that there are situations even a well-organized person sometimes fails deliver the perfection via slight mistakes.

Ruby you are amazing! Watching you makes me feel calm and happy inside. Also whenever I'm studying and feel like I'm going to procrastinate, I start watching one of your videos and immediately get back to my work after like a minute. You motivate me so much. Don't worry about people shit-talking like “Oh 70% is not good, I'm better“ etc etc. You are awesome and I admire your hard as well as efficient work, your nice personality and your happy, inviting atmosphere. Keep on doing what you love and stay happy!

Hey Ruby! I was wondering you could perhaps make a video about how you tackle your academic reading assignments? Like your reading process and how you take notes on them etc? Would be super helpful. Thanks so much! Also, Station Eleven is truly my favourite book and I hope you’re enjoying it 💚💚

You have definitely blessed us with a long upload ☺ Thank you for the video Ruby, it's brilliant to see more lifestyle (routine, food etc.) videos on your channel! One thing I'd like to note (if you see this) is that the best videos are the ones that you enjoy making and editing, regardless of the genre, I hope this is one of them for you ❤

i don't necessarily think this is toxic perfectionism--it only seems that way because Ruby accomplishes many of the tasks we attempt to do but never find time to schedule!! She's full time at school and youtube, so obviously she has to create very detailed schedules!! She attends therapy, and schedules time to do things she enjoys! I wouldn't worry about her too much :) Thank you Ruby for inspiring me to really be more proactive and mindful about how i spend my time !!
@RubyGranger84 жыл бұрын
KaffeLatte I know that I have suffered with perfectionism in the past but, ironically, this schedule actually helps me keep it in check and stops me from getting overly stressed about getting things done :) I can make sure I’m looking after my health and doing things I enjoy, whereas when I was at school and didn’t have a weekly schedule, I would end up spending most of my time studying on default! Plus I don’t schedule my weekends - they’re pretty much free for me to dedicate to friends, family and personal hobbies / projects ☺️xx
@caffeshoppe4 жыл бұрын
Ruby Granger exactly!! same for me, scheduling time to look after health/other tasks as well as school allows me to lift the mental load on my mind that there is so much i need to accomplish! it’s so helpful and i’m so happy that this works for you 💕

Hey Ruby, i just wanted to tell you that I did a case study on your 15-hour study day video for my uni exam (i’m doing media studies). I used the comment section to exemplify a theory we had learnt in class 😄 unfortunately i can’t show you because it’s in Danish, but it got me a good grade 👍🏼
@222o-u3t4 жыл бұрын
What was the outcome of the case study? I'm especially curious to see what the comment section proved 😆
@CaroLoveCody4 жыл бұрын
@@222o-u3t Well long story short, the comments show that the message does not come across how Ruby presumably intended it to (at least to a lot of the viewers who commented). But I only used the comment section as an example of the viewers' interpretations of the message, in order to discuss how an old media theory (developed for mass media) can apply to modern day media platforms like KZbin :)
