Bro chose a pre-64 Win Model 70 in .243 Win (after all this all went down 'pre-64 ':) while I chose the larger case capacity Rem 700 BDL 6mm Rem because of the more elegant stock and hinged mag floorplate. been watching and subbed for a while now. since your 'SBR the new DMR' video. you exude so much wholesome, intelligent, and calming grandpa energy. if you're looking to increase viewer base, i recommend putting out separate videos just going over your gear in their own videos, and maybe rolling in b-roll with them. people LOVE gear videos, myself included. im not talking about turning into a 'gear reviews' channel but more so just going over your own stuff, how you use it and little tips you've learned all in their own separate videos. it'll garner a wider audience and increase viewer retention with putting out 10-20 minute 'table talk' like presentations. plus, in theory it should be less time consuming to film and edit so you can increase your overall video catalog.

@richardoliver1468Ай бұрын
This was just an AWESOME video of your match. I really enjoyed how you talk about your game plan throughout the entire video. One of the best points was how you chose one firing position, shot the stage and then talked the benefit of having gone with your tripod instead. You definitely put a lot of money into your rifle and associated equipment particularly the scope and that range finder alone. The most important element however is you the shooter. If a new shooter, one without your experience, for example would probably not have done very well with your rifle and gear. I say that be cause as much time as I have shooting, I know I would not have come anywhere close to you. I have watched many long range shooting videos created by MDT, X- Ring, yours, Eric Cortina and Texas Plinking. Each time I learn something new, and that is great. Probably the most important element is for me to take my Savage Axis XP in 308 Win out to an outdoor range, and train with it. Take notes on what I need to focus on, such as using a rifle scope, and getting zeroed. When I am at the point where I am ready for my first upgrade, it will be to purchase the MDT Oryx chassis. I would like to see a video of you showing a bolt action compared to a gas system with both of them being the same caliber with the same equipment setup(scopes, bipods, tripods, and a hand held range finder) I feel that will help others like myself see the shooting benefit of one over the other, based on target ranges. When you zero the rifle at 100, try all the different rests all on dirt. When the bipod was in the forward position, it was on the concrete. When it was in the middle position, it was on the tarp. Those meta bipodl leg tips will create a different vibration or jump on these different surfaces. The mdt bipod in the wide position also bounces more. Good shooting overall.

That poi shift is common on all AR platforms due to the barrel and handguard mounting. When you have a bipod out at the end of the habdguard, you are applying torque on the barrel and upper receiver. Seekins, JP, Aero Enhance and a few other companies has addressed this issue.

The shift is a reason a lot of gas gun competition shooters like myself use semi monolithic upper designs like the Seekins, Ridgeline LPR and Aero enhanced where the handguard is bolted directly to the upper and not the barrel nut. This doesn't completely eliminate the shift if you apply a ton of force, but for normal use (like what you're doing here) the shift is essentially gone. Good on ya for getting out there and shooting matches!

Well done mate. Great shooting. I’m looking forward to seeing you work out whether the point of impact shift is consistent over other ar platforms too
@refuztosay9454Ай бұрын
POI shift was interesting. I wonder if it’s related to node harmonics or forces induced on the barrel nut handguard attachment points. An interesting test would be on a LaRue or Daniel Defense rifle as they have a true floating handguard (I.e. it is bolted to the receiver not attached to the barrel nut). If the shift replicates on one of these type ARs then it’s likely a harmonics related issue. I think this will be the case since it was so repeatable and consistent. And as always - great content and good shooting.

This was a great video video. I absolutely loved the problem you discovered and how you overcame it. Regarding the point of impact shift, please explore that more on bolt guns and AR platforms. I was wondering if it’s tweaking the handguard or barrel nut against the receiver. We usually leave a 10k inch gap between the hand guard an the receiver on ours. This was recommended by BCM. So I am curious if the gap or lack of it, maybe the cause of the impact shift. Keep up the great work we love your channel and tell everybody about it.

Sir, good shooting! If I may make a suggestion, I can see your heart beat in the reticle big time, and in my opinion it contributed to a couple of your misses. I used to shoot NRA Silhouette, where breathing and HR control are imperative at distance. Lots of material on it, one source I’d recommend is John Plasters book Ultimate sniper. No we are not military snipers, but you read these sources and cherry pick what applies to your discipline. You can also lighten contact with the rifle to lessen some of the HR bounce, especially when prone or using tripod. Lessen pressure on rifle, let it rest on bag/bipod, or tripod, and isolate trigger pressure to minimize moving the rifle, and lastly a proper follow through (don’t immediately release trigger pressure). It will all make a big difference I promise. Other excellent sources- Rifle Shooter by David Tubb, Olympic shooting manual, and I even came across a Russian shooting manual in a used book store. All good stuff to draw from.

I shoot 200 yard 22lr. I have my bipod as far away from me as I can get it. My arca rail is right behind that, as far away as it can be. This means switching between em doesn't change anything and I have a little more stability because of the forward mount. Lever arm, big movement on one end, small movement on the other end. Give it a try. Front bag just slots right in where the arca rail is, that works too.

Great job

That may explain my shift in my ar. I just built my first ar. Just got a red dot for now. Zero at 36 yards on a bag. Later I took it out no bags just resting on the mag. I got about the same result. Lower impact. Once I figure out all my gear I want on it I'll test some things out. Yes I'd be interested to see your results.
