Tip: When starting a bolt or nut you can prevent cross threading by first turning the nut/bolt in the opposite direction until you feel a click/bump and then you can thread it in from there.

I was a diesel mechanic for twenty five years before changing my vocation. I used to run into this all of the time. Cross threaded bolts, snapped off bolts, even bolts with the wrong threads forced into the hole! You have no control over what the individual before you has done, but you can take steps to prevent this type of circumstance for the next guy. It may be you! Thread chasers help when burrs might cause some cross threading. You can detect this by the fact that it is difficult to thread the bolts in by hand. Cleaning and oiling the bolts also makes getting an accurate torque easier. The most problems are caused by being in too much of a hurry and not paying attention to details. Good video. I'm impressed by your composure. Keep up the good work!

I have an older b series. When I install/remove the deck, I use the loader to lift the front wheels up, so I can easily roll the deck in/out. As for the bolts, the only chance you might have had was to work it back and forth, tighten/loosen. I was taught to always start a bolt/nut by hand, never with a wrench.

Feel Your Pain!!! Feels like I have more days trying to correct issues that arise while trying to fix simple daily tasks. Feels like such a wasted day when it takes 4-6 hours to repair a busted bolt that should have easily came out in less than 60 seconds. Misplacing, Breaking or lost tools also makes for a rough day. Having a place for everything and multiple types of each tool can really come in handy. Thanks for showing the true frustrations and not the edited smooth installation.

When I have hard to turn bolts or lug bolts I put lubricant on the bolts like Kroil, etc and run them in and out as much as they go without forcing them and keep applying the lubricant. On wheel hubs you can usually spray the lubricate directly on the hole threads from the backside as well

I got rid of my Dewalt tools and went with Milwaukee. Get 1/2" drive Milwaukee fuel 18 impact. It is a beast. My air impact wouldn't busy loose my mower blades. I broke a 1/2" Craftsman ratchet trying to gorilla the blades loose too. No joy. I bought the Milwaukee impact with like 1400 foot pounds of torque and it broke the blades loos instantly like it was nothing. I got the Milwaukee weed eater, pole saw, edger, and hedge trimmer too and they are awesome. Not cheap tools but they are powerful. No more need for the inconvenience of air powered tools either now that I made the switch to Milwaukee.

Lug studs are pressed in to the hub. They can be pressed out and replaced on lots of vehicles. If they are welded in place, do yourself a favor and just bite the bullet and buy a new hub. Don't mess around with jacked up threads. More trouble than it's worth. And torque after you get the new wrench so you don't cause the same problem again using the breaker bar to tighten to an unknown torque. And personally I don't care what Bora tells you, if you want life to be easier, use anti-seize on everything! If you're worried about something rattling loose, use some blue Loctite instead. Both keep the moisture out and make removal easier and more likely. And blue Loctite will come apart just fine, no heat needed for anyone worried about that. Red needs heat and green is darn near permanent. Great real life situation. Keep up the good work!

You did good, sometimes wrenching can be a battle. Maybe in your new pole barn you’ll have a auto lift and pneumatic compressor to help on projects like this. As you get older bending over isn’t as much fun. I took my 1025r into the dealer to get the hydraulic filter replaced, didn’t want to mess with loaded rear tires.

Broken lug nuts snapped of lugs....old Mechanic's say anti seize new Mechanic's say never put anti seize on anything tire related. I check my lugs once a month on my truck and every 10 hours on tractor...so I use anti seize on lugs and on the rim where it comes in contact with hub if you've ever kicked beaten the snot out of a tire on the side of the road trying to get wheel of because one surface is steel and other aluminum......not a fun time that's why I anti seize the aluminum steel contact points on wheel. Not saying it's right but it's what I've done for over 30 years. Never start a nut or bolt with a tool. Always start by hand. Then you know it is in the threads. Those tools will just force it on and will cross thread. And if you think it is a pain, or waste of time, to always start by hand, just ask yourself how much of a pain was it dealing with cross threaded bolts today?

I’ve had a few days like this - ouch ! I put 3” BORA wheel spacers on my 2025r. Another thing to take into account is the backhoe - my back step now hits the rear tire (just a tich) however anything wider would make the step not sit level. I do not have a mid mount mower. The 3” rear spacers make a huge difference on my property as I have steep hills here. Even navigating bumps and lumpy fields seems much safer now. Thanks for the video !! I just bought a used Kubota 1830 to mow with and I think I’ll be putting spacers on it too - the yard here is very steep !!

I use "Bolt out" penetrating oil when a bolt don't want to come off. You will be surprised on how efficiant it is. But, you have to be a little patient with that stuff. It takes time for the oil to penetrate the threads. Could even take a day or two sometime, but it better to be patient than repare the hub after a bolt broke. I used to even put oil two or three times and wait a day when it's very hard. I once waited 3 days, spraying the oil each day juste to make sure the oil got into the threads. It was steel bolts into aluminium casing spindle "chandelier" (you know, those aluminium casting that holds a spindle shafts on a mower deck (a JD D140 for instance 😁)). All my bolts went out without breakind 🙂. There are many brands that makes that specific prenetrating oil. Hope that this info helped you! Have a nice day!

If I get nothing else from this video, at 4:08 I learned that the tractor side PTO U-joint is removed with a spring loaded pin... 🤦🏻‍♂️I just got my BX2380 at auction with 575 hours and had the deck off to service it. I have an older BX2200 with a very similar designed mower deck. I agree, the design isn’t wonderful, but, after a few on/off’s, it is not as bad as you made it out to be. I agree, if the PTO splines are not maintained/lubed, the shaft on/off sucks. I am biased, as my tractor was inherited from my late father in law, so, I overlook the flaws and remember his joy when he brought the tractor home. It will be with me forever, as the memories cannot be replaced.

I think you find that would apply to John Deere across most sun compacts as they are clueless that they are getting an inferior product in comparison to a Japanese quality tractor designed to handle a front loader and back how with Quik attach. John Deere makes rubbish sub compact which shows when you go to remove the back hoe or front loader. John Deere are only good once you get to 6000 series or above there lower stuff is rubbish in comparison to Kubota!

Ordered mine mine over a month ago. A deciding factor should include your need plus their comments: "We process orders in the order in which they are received. At this time, your parts are still in the manufacturing process but rest assured that they will be completed and shipped as soon as possible. A lot of our popular aluminum parts are running 3-5 weeks with steel parts running 8-10 weeks. Some of our more complex parts can run longer than this. Unless you opted to expedite your order via rush fee, build times are generally 3 to 5 weeks on aluminum parts. Steel orders are 8-12 weeks due to the availability of raw materials, our current work load, and the fact that some parts are more complicated than others."

The bolt that snapped was in the same tire that had the missing bolt from cross threading wasn't it? I'm guessing either the same person cross threaded both in that tire or the extra pressure on it from the missing bolt seized it just enough? Either way sometimes if a bolt is rusted or stuck ironically tightening the bolt a bit, not even a quarter turn will break it free enough to come out after or always the penetration oil or heat.

Not sure what it is about Kubota and bolts. I lowered my ROPS on a brand new L3560. When I put it back up I hand thread the bolts back in, the design does not allow for a impact to even be used. One side went great the other side I got the bolt to thread through until about 3 threads were completely through the nut on the inside of the support. With about 1/4" to go to get tight, it froze up. I can not move it in or out. I am positive that it is not cross threaded. I think the bolt may be softer that the nut and it has shavings not between the threads. If you have ever had dust get into a bolt's thread you know how it can lock it right up. I hope it is not a systemic problem.

Being a bit (very) OCD, when I buy a brand new anything (lawn mower, pressure washer, tractor, etc.), I look at any fastener that might rust (all of them!) and before I use the item, I remove those fasteners and apply Bostik Never-Seez Pure Nickel Special to all threads and reassemble. Apply VERY LITTLE. Make sure to apply a dot of it under bolt heads and nuts too. Works great on hitch pins also. It's NOT grease. It IS messy! Have rags available that can be thrown away. You'll need 'em. No more seized fasteners. And, hand start all fasteners.

Hope my day starts better than yours was! Just curious. Does Borla recommend Anti-Sieze? Especially with the aluminum spacers, it seems like a good idea to prevent galvanic corrosion between the steel and the aluminum.
@GoodWorksTractors

Haha I hope so too! Anti sieze isn't mentioned in their instructions. I'll have to ask them their thoughts and answer in a future video.
@stephenphilbrook6239

Galvanic action between aluminum and steel would be pretty insignificant unless they were exposed to a wet saline environment due to the aluminum oxide coating that would form relatively quickly since aluminum would be the sacrificial metal. But it could happen I suppose in some circumstances.

I can't figure it out. It was like the spring mechanism popped out of place inside the handle. Haven't had a chance to look into it further, but there was a fun warning sticker about how disassembly can cause issues with the calibration. So, I'm sure that will be an enjoyable experience to deal with, ha!

This is one of the reasons I prefer split-beam torque wrenches. Much more durable and they don't lose calibration as easily as spring type torque wrenches

Not really. Easier to install/remove, yes. But I’ve heard many complaints about JD mower decks clogging in heavy grass. My 32 year old Gravely nor my Kubota have clogging issues. And no, I’m not a “hater” as you put it, of John Deere tractors. I enjoy tractors of any make. Side note, the Kubota’s are no more susceptible to cosmetic damage than any other brand. I guarantee if you abuse a piece of equipment, it will show it regardless of brand. That little BX was clearly abused by someone who didn’t care or know what they were doing.

@@lcee6592 - It really looked like some of that damage was the result of just regular use. Can't count the number of times I've hit a stump near or with my gauge wheels and they haven't bent yet. Same with the bucket. Done tons of loader work and no leaks as well.

This is for L Cee concerning Deere decks clogging. I have a 2021 1025r with the new 7 iron deeper deck with a mulch kit on it. First time I used it I hadn't cut my grass in several weeks because my old LX277 deck bit the dust & had to wait on the new tractor. The grass was somewhat wet & my old mower would have choked big time. Don't know about the old Deere decks but I'm happy to say the new ones don't clog and it chomped through that grass like it was 3 inches tall and mulched it so well that I couldn't even tell I had mowed really tall grass.
@C_J_81

@Supercreech The B2601 is a tractor. It easily smacks around a 1025R or BX in terms of the work it can perform and still has the drive over deck.

Asking as a newbie what is the purpose for the spacers???
@GoodWorksTractors
@GoodWorksTractors 3 жыл бұрын
Spacers make a huge improvement in stability (side to side). Most tractors tend to be a little too narrow relative to their center of gravity. So, by widening the stance, it can make a big difference in operator safety and comfort.

All the dings and wear marks, Those are the tractors I like to buy. If your going to just work em.... and not resale them.... you can get a good deal. I do know I would never by a BX with front wheel spacers. KUBOTA says to never put wheel spacers on the front, and they dont add any stability due to the pivoting action of the front end. I guess they might make them sell better to homeowners who want the form over function.
