In this video, I will be providing an unboxing and review of the ADAM Audio A77H studio monitors. These are active midfield studio monitors and they are part of the new A-series. The A77H is the successor to the hugely popular A77X. The ADAM Audio A77H, unlike the previous model, is now a true 3-way studio monitor.
ADAM Audio has made several improvements and the A77H comes packed with all the latest features, including ethernet connectivity, DSP, etc.
The ADAM Audio A77H is a true 3-way professional studio monitor with dual 7" multi-layer mineral stone woofers, a 3,5" midrange driver, and a 2" X-ART ribbon tweeter in a rotatable HPS waveguide.
It's bi-amped of course, and the amplifiers can deliver a whopping 500 watts of peak performance.
They are front ported, and the new woofers use a new ultra-lightweight mineral stone fiber design, which is baked together.
The waveguide is rotatable, which means that these studio monitors can be placed both horizontally and vertically. Remember that these are midfield monitors, so they are intended for larger home studios and recording studios.
The new ADAM Audio A77H offers extremely detailed sound. This is very helpful for a music producer when mixing and mastering because you will be able to hear everything that's going on in your mix. That includes the low-end because the ADAM Audio A77H has quite an impressive low-end extension, thanks to its bigger cabinet and dual 7" woofers. The A77H is not cheap, but they're not out of reach for most people either. They offer almost HI-END studio monitor sound at an affordable price, and that's the key takeaway here. In this honest review of the A77H, I'll cover all the features and functions of the new ADAM Audio A77H, as well as the pros and cons, sound quality, and more.

The A7X is very similar to the A7V. They all sound very similar. The main difference is in the low-end, which is noticeable deeper with the A77H, but if you have a subwoofer then you can make up for that. :) I've been very happy with the A7V too, which is what I'm normally using,.

Great review. I’m currently working on upgrading my studio and looking at different new monitors. Looked at the A7V, A8H and also this A77H. Although my studio is quite large, I’m not looking for mains (like the S series). Midfield is an option as well as near field (I just love to sit at close proximity to the monitors when producing). I’m looking for great low end extension (preferably 30 Hz to 33 Hz -3dB). Also looked at other brands like Eve Audio and others. Still figuring out what to choose, and I will look if I can get to listen to different monitors at a local store. Would be even greater if I can test them at my own studio. Nevertheless, keep up making videos and Trance music!

Hi! Glad you liked the review! For maximum low-end extension without the use of a sub, I would go for the A8H. I haven't tested those myself, but I'm 99% sure they sound very similar to the A7V and A77V, except that they have an 8" woofer that provides more low-end extension. I've always been a fan of 8" studio monitors. Unfortunately, they usually don't provide the same clarity as slightly smaller 5 and 7" monitors, especially two-way monitors, but being a 3-way monitor I suspect that the A8H will provide the best from both worlds. If you can afford it, I would definitely check that one out. I'm back to using the A7V now and I have to admit I miss some of that low-end and I'd love to keep using the A77H or the A8H. If I ever get the chance to borrow the A8H I'll review those as well. The latter is likely the optimal monitor for me personally, as my studio is also fairly large. I doubt I will be able to afford to buy them myself any time soon though.

Just finally ordered a pair, thank you for the review! After listening in person at a local music store I just couldn’t not buy these. They sound better than genelecs and the cheaper (although more expensive than these) PMC Result6. Flat response, transparent all the way through, no smearing and a really nice “3D” sound. When comparing directly with my current HS7 monitors that they had in the music store, this made the HS monitors sound flat/2D and extremely smeared with little to no detail. Cannot wait to receive and start getting to work mixing and mastering - will no doubt reduce number of revisions and enable me to perform better as a business but whilst having a very cool pair of 3-way speakers!!

Thanks! Indeed, these are far superior to typical entry-level monitors. They're not cheap, but at the same time, the price isn't so high that they're completely unobtainable for most people either, which is what makes these so interesting. Thanks again! Who knows, I don't have much time to work on my own music these days, unfortunately. But like everyone else, I, too, have lots of unfinished projects just sitting there. :) In fact, "you and I" was one such track that was basically finished, but just collecting dust for like 2 years because I didn't really think it was good enough to release at the time. 🙂

@@FireWalkMusicI have a digital piano and microphone setup in my 16'x24' living room and have tried about 5 different speakers setup, trying to find the right balance between sounding nice and looking nice since this is a living room. The speakers/monitors would be used for piano/singing 50% of the time and listening to music the other 50% of the time. I'm close to trying out a very nice pair of home hifi tower speakers (1 on each side of the piano) since I prefer that look. I've tried different PA speakers and monitors but all require stands. I saw your video and thought I'd ask for your advices. Would something like a pair A77X (I can buy them for $1500) be a good choice for my particular setup? Thanks a million!

I'm strongly considering these as an upgrade from my BX8as. Overall I like them and I don't do any serious audio work any more, but I'm looking to upgrade because the mids have always lacked. Have you by any chance tested the BX8s and would the A7V or A77H be a good upgrade? I'm also considering the S2V. My listening position is pretty similar to yours distance wise but maybe not as wide.

@FireWalkMusic
@FireWalkMusic Жыл бұрын
Hi, it's a Samsung Odessy G9 49" curved ultrawide monitor. Best investment I've ever made! I used to have two monitors side by side for a long time, because I was skeptical about the curved ones. The truth is that you don't notice the curvature. This one is also more curved than most, so it kind of wraps itself around you, meaning that I can now just sit in the middle, and basically have an equal viewing distance to all parts of the monitor. Previously, when I used two separate monitors I found myself constantly leaning towards the edges to see things that was very small on the screen. I don't do that anymore. You can also use several inputs. I've set mine up so that I have two DisplayPort cables from the video card to the monitor. That way it operates just like two separate 27" monitors, but without the bar separating them in the middle. Here's the one I have: geni.us/Samsung-49

So frustrated, was going to buy a pair of these this year, but have recently been inundated with a lot of unexpected car repair costs - looks like I may have to wait a few more months or early next year. Great video, making me too excited and I've only ever just had a short listen on these. Some of the flattest monitors I have heard for the money.
@FireWalkMusic
@FireWalkMusic Жыл бұрын
Hi, that's just typical. Always something with those cars. The A77H are indeed very flat and they've been a true joy to mix on. Never really felt like I needed to constantly cross-check with headphones when using these, because they provide such amazing detail and balance. You'll hear the difference instantly when comparing them side by side in a studio with a typical entry-level monitor for example. I'm back to using the smaller A7V's now though. I was lucky enough to borrow the A77H for over a month. Sadly my fiance died just before I published this video and I'm all alone with all the debt and expenses now, so it doesn't look like I'm going to be able to afford these any time soon either... Under other circumstances, I would already have replaced my A7V with these or the A8H.

I'm torn from this review honestly, I'm currently shopping around so I've looked at the frequency response graphs on the website and to me the A8H's seem like they have a much truer/linear response in pure mode than the 77H's, Given that you've had your ears to both of them would you say that's true or do the 77H's have more to offer than the 8H's ?
@FireWalkMusic
@FireWalkMusic 3 ай бұрын
Personally, I would go for the A8H. The entire A series sounds surprisingly similar in the midrange and the highs, but the A8H has slightly better low-end extension and I tend to like that extra power an 8" woofer provides in the low-end.
@michaelnorth3785
@michaelnorth3785 6 ай бұрын
Can you give us your opinion on the difference between the A77H and the A8H? I don't understand why the A77H is $200 less expensive ... when two 7" woofers should out do one 8" woofer. They each have the same tweeter and midrange .... right? .... same power levels ... right? Thanks
@FireWalkMusic
@FireWalkMusic 6 ай бұрын
That's a good question! I have no first-hand information so I'm just guessing here, but considering that the amps are exactly the same, from what I can see it's just the woofers that are different, as well as the cabinet. The A8H has a larger cabinet overall, and I suspect that the larger 8" woofer is also a bit more expensive to produce, compared to the 7" woofers in the A77H. Those are the exact same 7" woofers used in the A7V as well, which is probably the best-seller in the A series. When you can mass produce something and sell more of it, it's usually always cheaper than making something you sell less of. Could be as simple as that. But again, I'm just guessing. :)

I own a pair of the A8H and also a pair of the A7V. I've always been curious why Adam made the A77H and why it would be preferable to either the A7V or the A8H. @FireWalkMusic
@FireWalkMusic 3 ай бұрын
That's a pretty small room for 8" monitors and I wouldn't normally recommend it. Larger monitors with more low-end can often cause more problems than they solve in very small rooms. That said, if you're already used to the HS8, and get consistently good mixes using them, then you already know how the low end translates in that room, and have probably found a way to compensate for any buildup and or cancelation issues. So, I suppose it could work for you, even though I would normally recommend the A4V or the A7V for a room that size. In any case, the A8H will be a huge step up from the HS8 in terms of clarity and balance.

@@mitzthegamer they are both intended for lager rooms. The A77H is even less ideal for a small room because it's a midfield monitor. I would consider the A7V, which is a nearfield monitor, unless you feel that you must have that extra low end extension.

The A77H is a midfield studio monitor, so the listening distance will usually be greater, so it shouldn't be a problem. Also, the placement of the cones ensures that the higher frequencies come from the middle of the monitor, so the dispersion it's not as wide as it might seem. I've tested most of the T-series, which is ADAM Audio's first attempt at entering the hugely competitive entry-level segment. There's a huge difference between the T-series and the A-series. The A-series is much better balanced than the T-series, which I found to be a little bit too overhyped in the high-end for my taste. The A-series on the other hand is perfectly balanced and sounds amazing. I should note that when it comes to ribbons it's often down to personal taste, as some people will tend to hate them, while others simply love the detail and clarity they offer. Our hearing is also very different, so I might perceive sound very differently from you. :) This video is a very good example of that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJKnmXWnap5roaM

@FireWalkMusic
@FireWalkMusic Жыл бұрын
Nor do I to be honest. :) I actually used to repair woofers back in the days when I worked in a HIFI store. People would constantly push in the center for some reason.. I guess some people just can't help themselves and we had to start putting on the grills. I also spent a fair amount of time replacing the surround itself on older models. It was delicate work cutting off the old one and gently pulling it off, and then gluing on the new one. The cones themselves are a lot tougher than they look, so it would take a fair amount of force to physically damage it, and gently touching it won't cause any damage. Still, I agree that one should not touch cones in general, and I would be furious if someone touched any of the cones in my studio. In this case, it was just for the purpose of the video, and my hands were cleaned with alcohol before touching anything (it's a constant plague when you get finger stains on the gear you're filming). Next time though, I'll keep this in mind and use some graphics instead. Thanks for your feedback :)

Shame they have grown in size from my A77X's. I wish they had made a smaller 3 way that I can continue to use with a sub. I literally can't fit these in my space.

What about a8h's? Also, I recently had a chance to demo a pair of a44h's. I wasn't exxpecting anything from them but they left a really good impression. They sound bigger than their size would suggest and paired with a sub would probably be quite a nice system.

I wish! 😂In fact, I'll probably lose money on this video, considering all the software and subscriptions, etc, needed to produce it, not to mention all the time put into it. I just really wanted to test these out, to see how they perform compared to the smaller A7V, which is what I'm usually using. I guess it was mostly just to satisfy my own curiosity :)

The T-series is made in China but the A-series is made in Germany. I'll be the first to agree there's a lot of crap being made in China, especially things that can be bought from Wish etc, but this doesn't mean that everything that comes from China is crap. For example, your iPhone is made in China, as are most consumer electronics these days, even brands that are considered "quality brands". If you look at Tesla, for example, their best cars actually tend to come from the China factory. The ones made in USA or Germany are the ones with the most problems, the worst panel gaps, etc. :)

2:41 Even your Phone and many of the components that you have on your desk are Chinese-made. Does that make it a bad product? this bashing is of no use In modern days, just stop it. 🙃

I'm not saying that everything made in China is bad. Of course it isn't. But there certainly is a lot of crap being made there too. That's a fact. More often than not, if you order something from wish for example, what you get isn't what it was advertised to be, or the quality is so bad that it's unusable. It's almost like 50/50 most of the time.. There are a lot of poorly made copies being made there, ranging from bolts, car parts, electronics etc, which simply don't hold up to the expected standards. You usually get what you pay for though. The things you listed are often made in China, but designed by Western companies, so that's a bit different. The Chinese culture is quite different from ours in that it's more acceptable to scam people. That said, there are many reputable Chinese companies making quality products too of course, like BYD, Xiaomi, Roborock, and so on, but there are just as many making cheap substandard knockoffs, so you need to choose carefully.

@@FireWalkMusic But you are talking about a vocal minority who do such things. You can buy high-end like you can buy low-end Chinese components, the quality you buy is not related to a country but to an individual or a company. Wish exist because the customers who need this kind of cheap stuff exist. When Ford, Jeep, and Jaguar had to recall 79,000 cars, did you hear that was due to bad American components? I really think that gear manufacturers want the best quality for their stuff, but not all of them have the financial capacity to pay for it. So if the manufacturers have chosen bad components, why not just blame the manufacturers for their choice instead of blaming a whole country?🙃
@FireWalkMusic
@FireWalkMusic 7 ай бұрын
@@MrlegendOr I'm not blaming anyone. I actually never said Chinese components were bad. You insinuated that I did that, but I never did. I never said that the German-made tweeter is better because it's made in Germany. That has nothing to do with it. The thing is: They are two completely different tweeters. It's like comparing a Tesla model S and a Tesla model 3. Both from the same company, being manufactured all over the world. But still, two very different cars in terms of functionality and quality. It's the same with the X-ART and U-ART Tweeters. One is made to be as cheap as possible (which is also why it is manufactured in China, due to cheaper labor there) while the other one does not compromise on anything in order to get the best possible sound quality, and is therefore also naturally much more expensive. :)
@MrlegendOr
@MrlegendOr 7 ай бұрын
@@FireWalkMusic Again, cheaper labor doesn't always mean cheap products. I'm sure that you have gears that you consider of high quality, and you didn't even notice that they have inside components that came from Chinese cheap labor. Now I understand that you meant that the particular ribbon tweeter in the T Series is bad, not because it's made in China, but rather because the company that made it has a poor reputation in terms of the quality of its ribbon tweeter. However, what you said in that part of the video was not really clear in that regard. Anyway, I'm glad you clarified it. 🙃
@FireWalkMusic
@FireWalkMusic 7 ай бұрын
@@MrlegendOr Not always perhaps, but often. That's why most companies does it. Again, I never said the tweeter in the T-series are bad. You need to stop putting words in other peoples mouth. :) I said that the one in the A series is a whole other beast than the one in the T-series. Meaning that it's better. That doesn't automatically mean that the one in the T-series is bad. A Samsung Galaxy S24 will probably be better than the S23 but that doesn't mean that the S23 is bad. Same thing. In fact, Adam Audio is well known for the high quality of their ribbon tweeters. The A-series is naturally going to be better than the entry level T-series. This is typical of ALL budget monitors out there. You simply can't make a budget monitor without making a lot of compromises. It doesn't matter if it's Adam Audio, KRK, Focal, Yamaha or whatever. When it comes to budget monitors, they all need to cut corners to stay competitive in terms of pricing, and at the same time offer the best possible sound. They'll typically drive down cost by having less sound absorbing material on the inside, no internal bracing, thin plastic front baffles and cheaper components overall. For higher end monitors, they don't have to cut so many corners and can focus more on optimal sound quality. The T-series is no better or worse than any other comparable monitor in that price range in my opinion. If you've ever looked inside one then you'll see that it actually has bracing, and a fairly sturdy front baffle, as opposed to many other comparable budget monitors.
