Malena is right specifically about getting prescribed fentanyl right off the bat (pretty sure standard procedure for that is to make sure that the patient has already gotten used to the less powerful narcotics before prescribing it), but she def speaks like someone who’s never been in pain in the 8-10 range on the scale. When you’re in enough pain to justify narcotics (especially abdominal pain), it’s impossible to think about anything else but getting relief. That being said, as someone who has been in that much pain and has climbed the ladder of narcotics all the way to IV fentanyl, yeah, narcotics are scary af.
