There are a lot of male sperm donors who are shet human beings. Moreso, decide who and how they will be in someone's life. I don't give people excuses for being absent. U choose to not make something a priority. U choose the way u interact or not. Her dad can not want to be with the mom, even if it was a short lived affair but there is a child. His child to help raise and instill immeasurable traits and skills...so, yeah..her mom decided to have her and raise her. Period.

My mom is white and we grew up “in the hood.” My mom is my everything. Especially as a woman in a mixed relationship being talked about by many that did not want to see a mixed couple. She had to be stronger, and not be a fool to those that wanted to bring her down. Now this was in the 70’s and 80’s and seeing a white woman with a black man brought pain from both sides. Thank God for her friends, and church. Much love to those that loved my family unconditionally!! Love comes in all colors and oh, what beauty God has made!! Bless you all!

Her mother's strength of character is what shaped Alicia. Her mother is also an artist. Alicia's story is about her mother! Her mother knew she could do it and she worked her ass off to provide for her. And she was an only child as well. Who knows how her future could have turned out had she been one of multiple children. Her mother focused entirely on her and her creative outlet. This story is really about her mother and how much a woman can achieve when she believes she can! She set the tone for Alicia's whole life and future. And that's something so amazing I can't even fathom it! I've been a social worker, I've worked in the addiction field. Children who are unwanted by their parents suffer more than the average person can understand. And the system is so flawed that children and teens who grow up in foster care and state homes, suffer mercilessly! Less than 50% of children and teens who are raised in foster homes become productive citizens in adulthood because of the trauma they faced as a child. Not all children have a protector. My mother was going to abort me and all of my sisters when she found out she was pregnant and I wish she had! She scarred us all so badly we are all still floundering as adults. Still hurting from our childhood trauma and the things she did and allowed others to do to us. No human being deserves to grow up knowing their mother and or father is incapable of loving them. That's no kind of existence! And it sure isn't living if you ask me.

Let us understand the quality Alicia brought to to the culture of music. It is beautifully organic how she influences soul, jazz and r&b without conforming to the stereotypical ideas of how music should be or how music should sound for popularity as a result that is called selling your soul.

What if she chose a different “solution “ to her wonderful pregnancy. What if?? Some women will never have that option. My heart was touched by this story. So honest and so raw. Absolutely a beautiful thing life can be. It’s never easy but still astounding… my goodness. Tears of everything. I’m a huge fan! I always loved Alicia and now I love her mom and the courageous acts! I truly respect and admire Alicia’s mother for raising her so well. Alicia is humble, tenacious, down to earth, caring and compassionate to say the least!! Not to mention that she’s a fantastic mother, wife, daughter and artist!! I myself and my 4 siblings were raised by a marvelous and loving single mother who knew no English, but insisted that we as kids always remember our humble beginnings and NEVER forget where we came from- Mexico. To always speak our 1st language and be proud of our heritage. She was a foster mom for 20 years and some of the kids( adults) would come to visit. Oh how I miss my madre linda, see you when the Lord comes for me Pepita!!!💜💜💜

Even 5th time moms don’t know. I have five and I fail them every day, I haven’t provided them the life I wish I could. And I’m mentally checked out half the time because of the pain inside me. I provide for them and I work hard but this video made me cry because I want my kids to have a mom like these women are. But after years of abuse by their dad, I am now just so disconnected and not the mom I once was. It makes me so sad. Please pray for me. I want to be better but all I can do is work and I feel like such a failure.

@Nas Kane Thank you for the heartfelt words of encouragement and support. Some days I feel I’m doing amazingly well and other days I beat myself up to no end. I realize much of the negative self talk has to do with the abuse and things he has done/said to me over the course of 20 years. I have worked on my mindset tremendously, which is how I was able to finally break free, but I think because of the many positive changes I made, I just falsely believed my healing was done… when I first got away, I went through a period of strength and resilience that made me and my kids so proud and when I’m hit with low points- I suddenly am reminded I still have so far to go and it’s almost shocking for me to realize that as far as I’ve come- my journey will never be complete. Please know that your message has really uplifted and inspired me. ❤️ I hope you have a beautiful day!
