I smoked weed can i join the Military?

This was one of my issues, I smoked weed all day everyday, I was nervous to tell my recruiter but I did and he just wanted to make sure I wasn’t going to any more so I waited 60 days to get clean then I got sent to MEPS and for the security clearance they even ask you on that, I put YES on there also. I was nervous cuz I thought maybe it wouldn’t let me in. But I’m able to join and I passed MEPS and I’m just waiting on the last couple things before I can join. Just tryna make sure I can pass that 1.5 mile run. So I would say be honest and just show you are very dedicated to joining and that you really want it. And it would be okay. This was my biggest issue and I was able to join 💯💯

Caleb Ackerson nah it didn’t mess anything up just make sure when you go to MEPS you’re clean cuz they will drug test you, and then when ur at boot camp they will drug test you again. It only hurts you if ur test comes up positive

Sober on the job, I understand and agree. On your days off it's ridiculous! All drugs should be legal. Drug use is and individual freedom. Drug use problems are healthcare issues and should have never been a legal issue. So alcohol and prescribed drugs are okay but weed isn't?

From a veteran to anyone wanting to join the US military. As long as you don't have priors the military will only find out what you tell them (unless you're going for a TS clearance). I was a huge pot head prior to joining the military. I did what I had to to get in and I did my time to the best of my ability, kept myself on the straight and narrow. Hell, I was a prohibited firearms possessor due to involuntary committal years before I joined. But it never came up. I only found out after I tried purchasing a firearm after I got back from deployment. I got that sorted out and am now legally able to own a gun. Long story short, if you don't have a record or it's confidential under HIPPA laws then they won't find out unless you tell them. By the way MEPS is ment to disqualify you, they will try to scare you but don't let them.

Heavy pothead here tryna join. I stopped smoking 3 days before meeting with a recruiter and its been 7 days. Going to meps in 2 days. Dont know if its worth it cause youll get banned if meps finds out. Ive heard that if your skinny af and have a high metabolism you can be a chronic smoker and it wont show up.

I told my marine recruiter that I smoke weed on a daily basis.. he tried so hard to help me quit but I just wouldn’t. I’ve told him repeatedly that I can’t promise I will stop but I will absolutely try my hardest and he would always try to set deadlines like, “alright when I call you next week I hope that you haven’t bought anymore, smoke what you have left but don’t buy anymore.” He’d call me a couple weeks later and ask how I was doing and if I quit and I’d tell him truthfully that I hadn’t. He still sometimes messages me but im looking to join the Air Force after I get off weed and cigs. With having a job now its sooo fuccin hard bc im always able to buy some. So when this job is over im going to try again..

@@ZeeCapp Honestly thinkin' the best bet is Enlisting with a different MOS, one that doesn't require such a stringent background investigation but still has decent Civilian Side employment opportunities. Do 4-6 years in that role and if going for an MOS that requires a TS/SCI clearance still appeals to me, reenlist and go through the shenanigans with full honesty. Give my past some time to effectively become old irrelevant history. It'll also make some of the sections easier to fill out. Like past Residences, Employment, and Drug Use. Knock the 7-10 years of history down to just a few, and make finding "People Who Know You Well", and references in general, a bit easier. I don't want my story being potentially told by people who only knew me when I was a High School dumbass trying to compete with Snoop Dogg. People who are still to this day being dumbasses themselves lol. Rather be able to pick where I go in the Military over the possibility of having the Clearance denied and being deemed "Needs of the Army".

I told the truth about my previous drug use with my recruiter and he told me that as long as it’s not a habitual thing and I’m able to test negative when the time comes that I would be ok. I’m black 😅and the law likes to make an example out of you when you’re black, so I felt like it was important for me to be honest, even if they deem me ineligible. I told my recruiter the last time I smoked was in March for my 27th bday which is the truth, I’ve been clean from all that for months now it’s October. So I told the truth on my application AND I’m going to tell them the truth when I get to MEPS next week. All of that BS is behind me and I might be being too honest, but it’s better to be safer than sorry. I want this. Period.

DO NOT have it in your system at the MEPS. They are able to PERMANENTLY DISQUALIFY you for that. On my MEPS checklist papers, they say if you fail the breathalyzer or drug test you can be PDQ'd. Edit: I think the policy is dumb, as marijuana is one of the safest drugs out there, but that's just how it is federally.

I didn't fail a drug test at meps but the first time around I disclosed my usage. They disqualified me. Fast forward a couple years I tried again and I didn't have a record at meps anymore so I kept my mouth shut and joined the military.

I have tons of buddies while in that would smoke weed while in and sweat bullets like just wait until your out after your 4 years and make sure to sign up for 4! At first I cannot tell you how many buddies sign up for six realize how much they hate it and want out and have that long stretch in front of them!
