Those with 5800x3d and 7800x3d just made proper future proof purchase, very good. And now lots of AM4 motherboards perhaps someone with a 3600x can just upgrade to a somewhat cheap 5700x3d if supported. It's brilliant.

@@wohnie39Is it an older stock cooler or something more decent? If the former, your case has the space, and you're willing to spend a bit more, then a cooler like the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE (any 2 fans version) at around $36 USD will handle the 7600X and most likely a 9800X3D quite well (assuming it'll be efficient like the 7800x3d or even 5800x3d). If you already have a decent cooler perhaps the thermal paste application or mounting of the cooler isn't quite right. If you have spare thermal paste you could try removing the cooler, cleaning off and reapplying a decent amount of paste, and finally make sure to mount the cooler evenly (criss-cross pattern and little by little). Best of luck!

ram training depends on board/bios/when they did this last. Takes me about 60s with 64gb ddr6000 at cl30 EXPO after CMOS reset/bios update/etc. For normal startup from cold, if it does ram training it's usually 10-20s max. I don't get performance regression when using sleep either on an x670e steel legend.

The crackling sound in the audio is due to the FCLK giving errors, perhaps because you have too much voltage on the CPU SoC or because you have too much OC to FCLK. You don't need more than 1.2 volts on the SOC to have 6000 in memory. My 7800x3d keeps 6000 in memory with 1.15 easily

The issue with i9 13th and 14th gen is the high voltage call in the VID table for the 2 preferred cores. P cores, E cores and ring share the same rail, so when those two cores call for ridiculously high voltage, everything on the rail gets exposed, which over time causes degradation. How long it takes depends on many factors, including silicon quality. If you have a 13th or 14th gen i9, and have not suffered stability issues yet, set BIOS to enforce Intel limits, set long and short PL to 238 watts, set amps to 307, and lock all cores to 5.7 (14th) or 5.6 (13th), and you should be good to go.

Ok, so i've had my 4090/7800x3D rig for a year as of next week. I started off with dual channel kit of 32gb of 6000 MT memory, which i overclocked to 6400 MT...and added a second 32gb kit a few months later. The only significant issue i had with this platform was my original motherboard choice, a MSI 670e board. I spent a full 12 hours working on it before managing to get a post, installed a fresh copy of windows and everything appeared fine. Next day, just refused to post. RMAed the board and replaced it with a Asrock steel legend 670e, and everything has been smooth sailing since. Since moving to 4x16gb memory training issues have also become almost non-existent, i think it's happened twice in the past 8 months. I never had any luck at all overclocking much of anything on AM4, PBO handled the cpu and memory just didn't like running out of spec at all. AM5 is much more malleable (i've even played around with Fclk overclocking and managed to get the CPU to 5.4ghz with no apparent issues, though the risk isn't worth making that a daily driver) You had released your "sold my 4090 for 7900xtx" video literal hours after i had purchased my 4090. When i first got the card, i had the same multi-display issues you complained of, though the issue resolved (for two displays anyway) once i connected the monitor marked in windows as "main display" to what the gpu considers "output 1" After getting my hyte y70 touch, adding that third display caused the issue to return, though i'm convinced that's partly due to hyte's software conflicting with windows and nvidia's own software, the solve there was to have the hyte display run off the iGPU. As for arrow lake....i just don't understand how so many people continue to be optimistic about anything intel is doing. How many years did 14nm drag on for before intel "came back" by doubling to quadrupling power draw to eek out 2-10% performance gains SOMETIMES? Battlemage is DOA, AMD is sandbagging performance metrics of Ryzen 9000 and still beating intel by 15-20% even without x3D. Intel's new laptop chips already aren't great, arrow lake is just going to be more of the same....intel can't do efficiency and performance. I've watched intel do endless slimy things for 30 years now, but how they've handled the failure rate of "two" generations of chips takes the cake. They should be issuing a recall, instead they're trying to weather the storm long enough to get arrow lake out the door and hope that enough people will upgrade that the problem will, if not resolve itself, at least insulate them from the worst of it.

I can get -46 all core with curve optimizer on my 7800x3d. The zen4 cores are in no way pushed to their limit in the x3d variants. They're locked at a maximum of 5.05ghz when a normal 7700x can achieve 5.4ghz out of the box. I think you just got unlucky with the silicon lottery or there's something wrong with your setup.

My 7800x3d only handles -5 one one core but -20 on the rest. Telling a friend to just plop in more than -5 is begging for trouble. People who say that set -30 on PBO NEVER play Pubg or Battlefield. If you have a high end loadline tunable board it might be possible if you increase all core workload voltage? Running Pubg average fps stays higher with -100Pbo since it can maintain max boost for way longer.

Some friends even had AMD expo not working straight out of the box with a 32gb 6000 kit.. Putting just a little bit more on the vddio fixed it all. They are stable for months on end now.

I got the 0x129 microcode and updated my BIOS and I'm not seeing any major changes in my gaming performance. Also with Windows bottlenecking AMD performances I see no reason to switch back. I get people like AMD but with the RAM issues they have paired with Windows screwing them I'm sticking with Intel.

As far as we speak for the clocks , out of the box mine was working on 4883 I touched the negative offset to -20 it was working fine but dind ge to 5ghz , I put the negative offset -30 , never crushed and now the cpu is on 5.1 working just fine and its cold as ice , 26 degrees idle , max in games 65-66 , stress test 77-78 cooled with Liquid Freezer II 240 , case bequiet fx500 . Sadly just returned mine in a pre-built cuz the pump on the cpu cooler was failing just 11 days after i got it. I will never get another Cyberpower pre-built again, since they went cheap on the cheapest part. Now back to sitting on my hands for 15-20 minutes while my 8700 non-K with Rx 470 4Gb warms up. Please don't laugh since I used to have a GT-1030 2Gb . . . Well now I am back to waiting it out for next gen to drop in price so I can get a 9800x3d and 5080, that is unless AMD prices the 9800x3d aggressively and this Christmas will be the first happy one in a loooong time. 🎄

Its kinda a really shitty change productivity wise if you actually needed the extra cores and threads, but considering the CPU parking issues on the 7950X3D and the dumpster fire that’s happening with Raptor Lake Fail rate… cant say you made a bad choice. My guess is you kinda just bought the i9 literally just for the slightly higher gaming performance over the 13700K and 13600K which kinda doesnt matter. Similar to how the difference between the 13900K and 7800X3D is negligible. Before the chip fail issue i wouldve said 13th/14th gen intel was better but the motherboard longevity support and fact that the 7800X3D is basically on par in gaming with an 14900K while being way cheaper and less power hungry made it an even match and preference. Cant beat Raptor Lake productivity per skew and way better budget chips imo. But with the fail rate and issues with raptor lake its a clear W for Zen 4 X3D by default. I still think 12th gen tho is just a way better buy than regular Zen 4 by itself but the socket support at this point is in ignorable for those who get intimidated by motherboard swapping and selling their old shit

re: long boot times: how often do you reboot!? you only really typically need to reboot maybe once a month to install operating system updates. - and as far as overclocking, yeah, stock is pretty close to being ideal tuned... SOMETIMES you might get lucky and can make 1% or so improvements from some tweaking, but if you want stability, overclocking hasn't really been worthwhile for a long time.

Amd only guarantees up to 5200 mt that why 6000 is not as stable. Intel is about the same and they both have different standards when using 4 sticks, dual rank, etc... that's why QVLs are so important to read when getting cpu, mb, and ram.

For my 7800x3d I had to go with per core optimizing. The lowest neg i could go was -30 on a couple of the cores, but on a couple other cores i had to go with -15 while the rest were somewhere between (testing stability was a nightmare). It's all certainly a silicon lottery. When you're a brute force overclocker it feels disappointing trying to squeeze more performance out of this chip, but at the end of the day it is still cutting edge... OC the fabric and ram timings!

you pay for X speed, bitching about not overclocking well as they are already running at the edge isn't valid. that just means that the company is doing a great job in the efficiency. back in the athlon 1800 days there was epic room to overclock, as time goes on not so much, thats everything in all industrys, used to be easy to double your horsepower back in the 70's, but not so much now... as long as you get what you pay for there is no room to complain.

Very nice review. I haven't used an Intel chip for any of my personal builds - so I can't say how they would of been for me - but I'm very happy with my current all AMD build. I have very nice boot times - especially considering I have 192gb of ram ; the ram kit = CORSAIR Vengeance RGB 192GB (4 x 48GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 5200 (PC5 41600) at the time I didn't realize there was a non-rgb version - My MB is the Asus ProArt X670-E Creator Wifi - Cpu is the Ryzen 9 7950X3D - I use an AIO cooler for the cpu cooling needs. I have 2 PCIE gen 5 x 4 nvme m.2's both are the same models both are 2-tb ; 1 is my main and the other is a back-up. I also have the 2 PCIE Gen 4 x 4 nvme m.2 drives 2tb each that were my previous set. Both are now extra back-ups My Gpu is the MSI Radeon RX 7900XTX Gaming Trio Classic - Psu = Seasonic Prime TX-1600W 80+ Titanium| ATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0. FM. As you were saying when you let the ssytem just run at stock settings it ran the best for you : I let my system run at Stock settings and have always been very satisfied. I had upgraded my AM5 build after the initial build did one upgrade at a time after saving up for an upgrade. The MB , case and the 2 Gen 4 x 4 Nvme M.2 drives are the same from the initial build to the current configuration.
