Imma do the math You multiply the level by 2, then you divide it by 5 Then multiply by the power of the move then multiply the attack of your pokemon divided by the defense of the opponent’s pokemon then you divide it all by 50 then you add 2 and then multiply by whatever conditions are on the field such as weather or any other stuff, simple really

The sheer amount of time and effort put into this is amazing. Not just the ‘figuring out the code’ bit. The amount of effort you put into the editing (used to do editing myself longer ago than I’d like to admit, or think about) is just a testament you have to your craft. And then add in the entertainment value, well done. Commendable effort for great content. Even if the finer workings are sometimes overlooked.

Much easier formula that's almost perfect: (CAP/D + 2) * M C is a constant that depends on the attacker's level: .84 at 100, .44 at 50, and .08 at 5. You already know A, P, D, and M. That formula returns best-case damage; for worst-case damage, multiply by .85 For instance, a a level-100 Abomasnow with 283 special attack uses Blizzard (110 base power, STAB) to attack an Abomasnow with 206 special defense. M is 1.5 since it's a neutral-hitting STAB move. CAP = .84*283*110 = 26149 CAP/D = 26149/206 = 126 CAP/D + 2 = 128 best case damage = (CAP/D + 2) * M = 128*1.5 = 192 worst-case = 192 * .85 = 163 Let's see what the calc says: 252 SpA Abomasnow Blizzard vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Abomasnow: 162-192 (50.4 - 59.8%) Less than 1% error. That's a really good approximation. PS How do you find C for other levels? It's just the 2L/5+2 term from the original formula, divided by 50. When L is 100, 2L/5+2 = 42, and C is 42/50=.84. When L is 50, 2L/5+2 = 22, and C is 22/50=.44. When L is 5, 2L/5+2 = 4, and C=4/50=.08. When L is 71, 2L/5+2 = 30, and C is 30/50=.6. You get the idea

As someone who played a lot of competitive singles, especially in older gens, these mental calcs have become second nature to me. A lot of times I'm theorycrafting with a friend and I'm usually like "this does around 70%" or "around 40%", and we tend to be correct, if something does more or less than expected it's when we get surprised

@lawrencep892311 ай бұрын
something which might make the process a little easier is taking a digital (or online) calculator, for example desmos. You can write out the formula and assign each variable to a letter, you can then set the variable to your value and it returns the result. I imagine it would especially make the atk/def a little less time consuming. Great video

This may actually be one of the better battle videos on this channel, because usually there's some twist to the way the game itself functions; but as pointed out during Vinny's battle, there's no catch except Frank is actually applying the damage formula by hand every turn.
