Another outstanding build sir. You make what I am sure is very hard work look easy. Im interested in knowing, what do you do with the knives afterwards? Do you keep them or offer them for sale. Im sure many would be willing to buy such fine work.

If you forge weld identical steel pieces, there is very little pattern or contrast visible. The contrasting patterns are accomplished by fusing two divergent steel types that will react at different rates to the acid . Looks like way too much contrast for a handful of nails. Also nails are low carbon steel that will not harden. Unless those were some kind of special nail type ( looked like ordinary 20d nails to me) then that knife wont cut soft wood, much less harden . Just seems questionable to me.
@masterknives555Сағат бұрын
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and observations! 😊 You’re absolutely right that contrasting patterns typically come from using different steel types with varying reactions to acid etching. I achieved the pattern by combining the nails with other high-carbon steel sources in the billet, which contributes to both the pattern and the ability to harden the blade. Regarding the nails, you're correct that standard nails are usually low-carbon, but in this project, I used a mix that included high-carbon materials to ensure the knife would harden properly and hold an edge. I appreciate your detailed feedback-it's always great to discuss the technical aspects! 🔨🔪✨

Thank you! 😊 You’re absolutely right-knife-making is a skill that takes practice and patience. The fact that you’ve tried it yourself is awesome, and every project is a step toward improvement. Keep at it, and thanks for watching! 🔨🔪✨

Could you get around cutting off the nail heads if you stacked them half one direction and the other half the other direction? Nice work by the way. Gorgeous knife.

That's what I was thinking
@masterknives55520 сағат бұрын
Thank you for your kind words and suggestion! 😊 That’s an interesting idea-stacking the nails in opposite directions could potentially eliminate the need to cut off the heads. It’s worth trying in a future project. I appreciate your support and thoughtful input! 🔨🔪✨

Not trying at all to be rude in any way but isn't that REALLY loud to do and why doesn't he wear earplugs or ear muffs? The only thing I can think of is that he may be deaf and it doesn't really matter but if not then I recommend that he uses some sort of hearing protection. I know I have hearing loss from not using that kind of protection in all the different jobs I have had over the years that didn't require or was not even considered.

it took you 30 days to do maybe 6 hours of work? Not a very good performance ratio... =P And those gaps between your scales and your tang... yikes bro... I know you're way better than that, what happened? I'm sure you know if you used some black pigment in epoxy you could hide that better. just my $0.02, best wishes.
