Yes, you need the middle people. I have no connections to top level people, but I have two producers who do, and they are my middle people. They optioned my fantasy TV series and sent it out to many people they know...still waiting for that bite...but I am far ahead from when i was on my own trying to get exposure from writing contests and other platforms. Also, getting people to read something is so hard and frustrating.
