Welcome to our channel, where we share our journey of restoring a traditional Japanese minka, which we bought as a cheap abandoned house in the picturesque countryside of Japan. Join us as we breathe new life into this former akiya, exploring the beauty of traditional architecture and the challenges of renovating a house in Japan.
As foreigners living in Japan, we've embraced the opportunity to restore this minka, a symbol of Japan's rich cultural heritage. Learn about the craftsmanship involved in minka construction, from bamboo and earth to straw, and discover how these materials create a harmonious living space.
Our journey began with purchasing this akiya for 5 million yen (approximately $35,000 USD), including not just the minka but also a guest house, storage building, and a generous plot of land with trees. We'll share tips and insights into the challenges and rewards of renovating a traditional Japanese house in the countryside, showcasing the unique blend of history and modern living.
Whether you're a fellow renovator, a lover of Japanese culture, or simply curious about life in rural Japan, our channel has something for you. Subscribe to follow our progress, get renovation tips, and immerse yourself in the charm of traditional Japanese architecture. Let's embark on this journey together and rediscover the beauty of a bygone era, right in the heart of Japan's countryside.

Bro your man cave would make a great seedling and repotting garden work area out of the rain. You can put some grow lights in there and some benches for work. Then just make half the garage a relaxing man cave area perhaps? Put a lean-to carport for the RV and car attached to the garage no need to put it inside. You have a garden work are, a man cave and a double length carport all for relatively cheap. Carports are quite affordable in Japan.

Yup all of that is in the plans! Thinking about a fold down bed too. Bound to have a few drunk guys over so good to have extra sleeping area….now I use it as a changing area too I so don’t track in mud and dirt when doing yard work.

Nice hack on that irrigation system. However isn't the normal sprinkler tubing is cheaper than a garden hose? Aloha brah.

Thanks! Probably 😀 but here you can buy hose without ends, so it was what I had. I should compare next time

Can someone tell me the best way to rent an apartment in Sapporo. I get the Visa requirements. I'll only be in the country half the year with leaving every three months, wait the required time and come back. I hear it's doable and I'm looking for a contact.

Hi I am sorry I don’t know. Did you consider doing a long term Airbnb? I believe long term offers a big discount.

@@cocolenchojapan Thanks for the reply. I haven't but I'll check that route. I'm retiring and I want to spend as much time as I can in Japan. I love it there.
