Keep them coming please! It would also be interesting to hear if you have a contingency plan too- say if oral is effective but you have to stop taking it for one reason or another. How would you wean off/ switch to something else whilst trying to retain benefits

Perfect video for me. Ive got scalp psoriasis so the topical is no use to me - plus topical is not practical. Bought oral minoxidil but ive just been staring at it it for months as Im apprehensive about the longterm safety

Have you been on topical minoxidil before or just Finasteride ? I have been on Finasteride for 8 months now and my hair loss is progressing in the receding hairline and diffused thinning overall. I started on oral minoxidil 1.25 mg same time as Finasteride, and after 4 months I increased it to 2.5 mg and now I am at 5 mg a day for a week. I didn’t have any side effects from Finasteride (I had raised heart beats and woke up from sleep when I tried 2.5 mg oral minoxidil before sleep on first day, that is why I halfed the dose for first 4 months. But looking back I should have given a week or 2 with 1.25 mg and then upped the dose to 2.5 mg a day atleast for some days, but I waited like 4 months). I am thinking of switching to Dutasteride in place of Finasteride as it is more effective in DHT blocking. I am okay with the hair I have now but would love the hairloss not to progress more.

You might wish to stick with Finasteride and take natural DHT blockers (things like saw palmetto, reishi mushroom, graviola leaf, red clover, stinging nettle, etc). Keep going with the Oral Minoxidil, people noticed my hair looking thicker on it.

I am in the same case as you! i am happy with my hair but I did notice some receding on the hairline. I want to try and save it or slow the process even more. I’m willing to give dutasteride a try after I test oral minoxidil. I’ve been on it for 2 weeks 5mg. I’ve been on finasteride for 1 year and 3 months and on topical minoxidil for 2 years.

Dr. Parissis, I've been on 5 mg of oral minoxidil for 9 months. People remark that my hair looks much thicker than it did before. I see somewhat less scalp than I did before. I am doing other therapies alongside such as LLLT, kenalog-10 5ml, natural DHT blockers (no Finasteride or Dutasteride), MSM, liquid silica, etc. Maybe we should talk. I am in New York, USA. I do get side effects from Minoxidil and half the time wonder how long I can hold up dealing with them or if I am poisoning myself.

What are the side effects you are experiencing? The first day I used like 2.5 mg before going to bed and woke up from sleep feeling my heart racing like crazy. So I skipped a day and started taking half the pill in the morning itself. I continued for 4 months like that 1.25 mg a day every morning and didn’t feel any side effects. But my hair also didn’t seem to improve, so I upped the dosage to 2.5 mg and this time I didn’t have any side effects (my BP was on the high end before taking medication 130-88, so it became closer to normal like 120-80 range so I am happy about that, my doctor was going to prescribe me medication if BP wasn’t lowering after dietary changes anyway). I continued for 3 months with 2.5 mg, now for 1 month I am at 5 mg a day, still not noticing any increase in thickness of hair (hairloss is progressing in the temples and diffused thinning) or any side effects. I was also on Finasteride 1 mg a day whole 8 months. I am thinking of switching to Dutasteride now instead of Finasteride

Have you thought about tretinoin to boost topical minox?

There was a great paper comparing topical minoxidil alone versus topical minoxidil + Tretinoin in 31 males and there was no statistically significant difference between groups in terms of hair growth. I’d need more convincing evidence before implementing it /recommending use

@@hardinrami8500 I took it daily. I’ve heard that splitting the dose e.g. 2.5 in AM and 2.5 in PM, reduces sides but also may increase effectiveness due to short life of oral min vs topical min which has 22 hours

@@hardinrami8500 was on 2.5 for around 6 months then 5mg for like 8 months. How you finding your switch? Did topical work for you?
