Bear has a place in Finnish mythology and it's Finland's national animal. There's an idiom that Finns live under the North Star. One of the most significant Finnish literature works is Väinö Linna's book trilogy 'Under the North Star', which covers Finland's history from 1880 to 1950s through the lives of family Koskela. The Big Dipper is also in publishing company Otava's logo, so it's familiar sign in Finland. Bear's a sacret animal in other cultures too: "The Great Cosmic Hunt, the Oldest Story Known to Mankind".

Asking everyone who graces us with their visit: please remember that the whole Rovaniemi region is populated by common people just like you and me. So all the domestic animals you see belong to someone (and unless told so, are not a general attraction). The houses are homes of regular folks (both Finns and Saami). Finns respect the privacy of others so please do not go touring on the yards or such without permission! The animals, also reindeers, will get sick if you feed them. Layman's right do not extend to private properties and since it is uncommon to build big fences here, please be respectful and mindful of the fact that you might be trespassing without even realizing it. Thank you in advance and welcome to Finland. 😊

@@norfolkreefer5801 Sadly this is due to the fact that many tourists have acted badly and the people of Lapland are tired of it. There was a big article about the issue some days ago, locals were sharing their stress concerning the matter. Some visitors act like the whole place is a sort of safari, while it certainly is not.

@@turpasauna For me it was a pleasure visiting Rovaniemi. My dream was to visit Finland since I was 13, I knew basic Suomi, and the rules are just common sence. Suomi people are the nicest, they are respectfull, they dont bother you but always helpfull. Rovaniemi is, in my eyes, the most beautifull place in Earth. I was going to move to Finland (I'm from Spain), I remember everybody thinking I was a Fin, and saying sorry, I dont speak suomi. They all smile to me and start speaking in perfect english. I ended falling in love with Icelandic people, so now I live in Reykjavik. But I still love Finland, the culture, the nature, the sauna, the lakes, and specially the music, the reindeer is just delicius... Kitos for being so awesome.

The glass house looks really good actually, though a bit on the tiny side, actually same size as a regular cabin offshore on most North Sea oil platforms but much more stylish! It was surprising to see that the non-igloo half of the "hotel" is just a very normal modern Finnish house! It looks like someone's home but then there's an igloo room when you go inside. As a Finn I kind of expected this very expensive hotel village in Rovaniemi to look a little more special 🤣Oh well, as long as it's a good experience for visitors, that's all that matters!

First off let me say that transition from the hot tub to going to dinner was well done. Absolutely awesome. Secondly, I’m watching the video and I’m seeing like the carousel and the snowmobiles and the lighting and it’s at night. It really struck me like something out of a novel. Maybe a fantasy novel of some sort. But it really seems so surreal. You do get to go to some of the most unique and interestingP. And I as a viewer would like to say thank you for taking us along with you. I know this is your job and how you make money. But that’s OK. It’s still awesome to be able to go along with you on these adventures. Sorry about your wife not getting to go. That guy was quite a jerk. He could’ve handled that in a much more cordial and respectful business like manner. I do believe she would’ve really loved that place. But you get her passport issue taken care of and take her there. Like I said, I think you were right. She would really enjoy that. Again, thank you for sharing and posting the video. God bless.

Sorry that Gabby and Casper couldn't come with you like you wanted 😔. It looks really beautiful. I keep hoping to see the Northern lights myself in northern Minnesota, but so far no such luck. It's not for lack of trying, though. Minnesota normally looks like a winter wonderland this time of year, but it looks like we are heading to a drought. What snow we got last Saturday melted off entirely and it doesn't look like we are getting any more snow any time soon. The weather here is quite weird this year. Blessings!

About 49 or so years ago, I lived in the Hartz mountains of Germany (absolutely gorgeous part of a beautiful country). I had a GSD at the time and we walked£ for miles through the mountain and just outside of Braunlage, we encountered a couple of ski jumps (this was in Spring/ summer). Dear gods! They were so high, I felt faint just scrambling to the top of the lower one of the two. Eddie, hats off to you for daring to even try!

I really, really have a big problem with small portioned meals, especially when they cost as much as they do. It is so unecessary and a bit of a con. I think I'd probably have to pack plenty of snacks, pastries and biscuits, if I knew I was visiting somewhere like that. It looks like a lovely place, though, but a tad too expensive (and too cold) for me😊.

Trying to work out whether the Northern Lights or the Rocky Road hot chocolate would be my highlight! Those reverse cycle air conditioning units/heat pumps tend to rattle, the one I have at home does and what I have discovered is that the mounting can be a bit loose and it makes the internal mechanism rattle a bit. If you hold it and it stops then that seems to be the problem. Jamming a piece of paper or a bit of rubber between the bottom of the unit and the wall can quieten it. May not always work but worth carrying a bit of rubber or paper to try it.

Great video Tim, we stayed in Saariselka a couple of weeks ago so interesting to see how Rovaniemi compares. Missing waking up to the snow.. it’s such a unique feeling there isn’t it? Never experienced such fresh, clean air & miss the sound of crunching in snow boots! Will be lovely for you to take Gaby & Casper there next time . 🎄⛄️

Love the video! Definitely a bucket list place. You mentioned you could wear your coat out to the spa as there was no where to put it. I thought I saw some hooks on the white fence behind the spa. It had a light hanging off one of the hooks.
