I didn't go in, but we drove by the mansion. I was also surprised at how small it is. But I remember that homes in those days were much smaller unless you were rich LOL. I was blessed to see him in concert many, many times and even spent a few nights in front of his Beverly Hills home waiting for him to return from recording. He was the most mesmerizing entertainer I've ever seen. Thank you for the mini tour.

Bird.....you look incredibly happy & relaxed! I am super happy for you. I went to Graceland decades ago. Met up with his good friend Charlie Hodges and got to watch old home movies, very raw footage, of Elvis on the road in a camper bus. Charlie even fed us. I had the pleasure of meeting Elvis' Uncle Vernon Presley at the gathering. I guess you could say that our manager had some connections. It's an experience I'll never forget...EVER!

I’ve always loved Elvis! Even though I was only 17 when he passed, my aunts would listen to him all the time and they actually went to a concert of his. When they came home and they talked about how they were sitting so far away from the stage, I asked them, where are you sitting so far away did he know you were there! Lol they talked about him so much I thought they were best friends! In my seven-year-old brain, LOL I recently saw the new Elvis movie and he gave me a different perspective on him his career and the pressures of being an idol. He is and will always be an icon!❤❤❤

What a great video! I haven’t been there but now it’s on my list. My late wife was a big Elvis fan and would dance with her refrigerator door to his tunes, while she dried dishes as a teenager! ❤️ Thanks!

Thanks for sharing Graceland and congrats on fulfilling your bucket list. As long as we're able to travel that bucket list keeps growing! So good to see you enjoy retirement, had both a Bro. and Sis who worked hard but passed away before they could retire. That sparked a fire under my butt to enjoy life and do things NOW!

Glad you got to visit Graceland. I have lived in the area my whole life and just visited Graceland in the last few years. I met Elvis when I was 16 at a gas station across the street from Graceland (which is where the museum now resides) he was riding a trike motorcycle and stopped to get gas. I didn’t think much of it at the time but when he died the next year I was grateful for our quick encounter at the gas pump.

My young at the time granddaughter and I visited over 25 years ago. The tour has greatly expanded with Soooo much more to see. Like you I was very surprised at the smallness of the house. I think the pillars in front give the illusion of expanse. There will never be another Elvis....
@6248cjl2 жыл бұрын
Graceland the house has been around at least since the early 60’s. I lived in Memphis then and one day my dad (around ‘64) decided to drive by the house. At that time the areas directly across the street were mainly wooded lots so it had more of a country feel. While we were sitting there, Elvis drove up in a black Cadillac or Lincoln and he was wearing a dark suit and tie and had black heavy framed glasses on (disguise perhaps?). There were a few teen girls hanging out at the gate and security held them back as the gates swung open to let him in. I know Elvis redecorated the interiors during the early 70’s.

You look amazing, love your hair 🙂 I was 3 years old when Elvis died, and I remember it like it was yesterday. It was traumatic, Mother cried, my Aunts cried... Radio and TV were on, and Mother cried and talked on the phone for days. The grief in the house was as great as if it were close family who had died. I remember everything SO well 😱 One of my Aunts was almost thrown out of Graceland because she tried to lay down in Elvis's bed 😂

I’ve stayed at that campground twice. Once many many years ago and then again about 10 years ago. I see they’ve greatly expanded the museum. I also toured his plane which was behind the museum at that time. Love your adventures 💕

OMG I have a camping slash Elvis story! I was also 8 when he passed. I was then and still am a HUGE fan. My earliest memory was around 3 years old playing Elvis 45s on my little pink record player. Any way my 8 year old self was camping with my parents in our pop up camper in Reelfoot Lake TN. I remember I took a nap and when I got up my mom said “I have some bad news. Elvis passed away” I guess they heard it on the radio. I cried and cried and begged my parents to take me to Memphis because we were already in TN. My dad said we would never. Even get close as all the fans had already descended onto Graceland. A few years later we did get to visit but not go in as his family still lived in the house.

I was always a big Elvis lover since my mother too was a fan. I visited Graceland back in the early 90s when it was a much smaller operation at that time we had someone with us that was handicapped and the handicap shuttle was broken so they let us drive our car onto Graceland’s property and park in the back behind the house that was so cool we swore we were never going to let those tires go my other tie to Elvis was that my stepfather was a military police officerIn the army and he was in Germany at the same time as Elvis and he sometimes guarded the location where Elvis lived.

Wow, learned a lot about Graceland from you! I had no idea there was an RV park there, so worth it for the visit. I didn't know the museum was so big. I figured the house wouldn't be easy to tour - houses aren't built for that - and so many people visit that house! The meditation garden is really something (too bad that it came about by necessity). Glad you got to see another bucket list destination! Such a cute story about 8 year old you! Thank goodness your Dad didn't take you to Graceland then - how terrifying that would've been. Thanks for sharing this with us! Good health and happiness to you, and safest travels!

We just did this last month, as sort of a lark, and were SO surprised and amazed at how amazing Graceland was! We also really enjoyed the RV park...and spent a LOT of time in the pool, meeting other people & cooling off 🙂 OMG, just started watching the video...we were in the SAME SITE as you, with our truck camper!!!! Incredible. ETA: I just checked, and we were at site# 75 on 7/8/22 and 7/9/22...we stopped as part of our 6,000 mile trip, spanning over 19 days and 18 US states! We visited the hills of VA (Shenandoah National Park), Graceland and other places in Memphis, TN, Dallas and Grand Prairie, TX (I had a work conference), Taos, NM, Manitou Springs and Golden, CO, many other places in between, and finished up in Lancaster County (Amish country), PA before returning home to Massachusetts! It was an amazing trip, in our truck camper, inspired to a great degree by folks like you that we've been watching on KZbin!!! THANK YOU!!!

I was such an Elvis lover. When I was about 10 my brother gave me a (larger than me!) 6' x 6' poster of Elvis. My Uncle Gordy (who served in the military with Elvis, and received three of his autographs) made a frame for it, and I was in heaven. I had all his albums and would beg my parents to let me go to his concert. They told me I was too young to go to a concert, but that I could go when I was older. I was born in 1966, and he passed away when I was 11. I cried and cried and cried and couldn't believe I would never have the chance to go to one of his concerts. One day I would like to go to Graceland. It's not super high on my must-do list, but since my youngest son is headed to The University of Alabama this fall, I suspect a trip to Memphis is in my near future. It's only 3 hours and 40 minutes from his college. Will be a fun mom/son road trip one weekend. Thanks for sharing your videos. They are always a treat!

You have to remember Elvis bought Graceland in 1957 for his mother, and there was nothing out there around it at the time. I am from Little Rock, Arkansas and went to the Baptist seminary in Memphis class of 1978. There is a lot to do in Memphis if you know where to look. Nice zoo, the Pink palace, The hotel where Martin Luther King was shot. Beale street, Memphis Botanical Garden, Handy park at the east end of Beale Street.(W.C.Handy was the Father of the Blues) Memphis River Boat Cruise. The Peabody Hotel where the ducks walk from upstairs on the roof to the Fountain in the lobby.

That was great! I loved Elvis as a kid even though he was a little before my time. I'd stay up late on weekends and watch all his movie, had a bunch of his singles and albums. I was 17 when he died and it was devastating! The stories around his death were terrible though now decades later, sadly all too familiar a story of some of the most talented people on the planet. For me, Elvis remains the most handsome & best singer of all during my lifetime. Listening to him sing Love Me Tender with stereo headphones would give me chills every time. LOL ~ Rest In Peace Elvis Presley.

Elvis was born in a " shotgun" shack in Tupelo Mississippi. The Graceland house , he built for his Mama!💓 it was a small ranch on the outside the city limits. He had horses, etc. So from where they came from, that IS a MANSION! Most of our people lived in small ranch style houses post WW2 , 3 brm, 1 bath.. Elvis was extremely generous to the people of Memphis. He gave millions to the hospitals, and schools. He certainly took care of his "mafia" family well too!

Highly recommend a float down a part of it when water is high enough (usually Spring; early Sumner). Nonetheless, north central & north western Arkansas is gorgeous!! Also, Hot Springs AR is special & very beautiful. Lake Ouachita is close to Hot Springs with lots of camping. If you are ever in Little Rock, AR., you are welcome to stay in my flat driveway or in front of my house as long as you would like. Safe travels from Robin in Little Rock!

If you are heading to Graceland for an overnight (without an RV) be sure to read the hotel reviews. Nearby hotels are surrounded by security fence and have bars on the windows and doors. With the exception of the $$$$$ gated hotel next door to Graceland, my internal alarms were loudly ringing.

What a hoot. I, too, stayed at that campground back in…hmm…2010, maybe? I remember there was a little gate/guard house at the entrance and right away I was thinking “uh-oh”, but it was fine - in spite of, or because of, the guard who cruised around all night in a golf cart! I don’t recognize the area of the campground you showed - I was near the front in the full hook-up section (or maybe it was just water and electric/don’t remember) and the roads were narrow with fairly small sites. I stopped in Memphis so I could eat at Interstate BBQ, plus I wanted to visit Sun Records and Stax Records and go on their tours. I was curious about Graceland, but I wasn’t a much of an Elvis fan so I didn’t visit the museum or go inside Graceland, but I did drive by the house a number of times and, yes, by today’s standards it is really tiny! Glad you got your Elvis fix!
