Just yesterday I made the decision to kick music out the door because of this reason. When I walk, when I study, when I play, when I do dishes I listen to music and it always keeps me in this fantasy world that I have created for myself.

Music makes you feel but it takes away your ability to think. If you constantly have music playing, especially with headphones, you cant process or pick up threads of thoughts. Its basically pressing pause on your mind so you arent making any mental progress. People think that they have to have music playing constantly because they believe having thoughts means you are boored.

That's why I only listen to classical music, cuz I must completely concentrate on it and do nothing else, otherwise I will be distracted. My brain have to be occupied with taking advantage of basic knowledges & theories to describe how this piece works. The topic would be wider than simple mood-pouring songs. Listening to classical music is just like enjoying a movie or a painting. Songs especially pop and romantic ones are always empty, comsuming my enthusiasm.

We have not been created without purpose. Our purpose in life should be to ONLY worship “The One Who Created us.” Worshipping ALLAH also means loving ALLAH. We should love ALLAH more than we love anything or anyone. We shouldn’t be the slave of our desires. We belong to ALLAH ALONE. ALLAH Informed us in the Qur’aan which is the Final Book Sent by ALLAH to the entire humankind: [Suratul-Mu'minūn (The Believers) - سورة المؤمنون (23:115,116)] 23:115 أَفَحَسِبْتُمْ أَنَّمَا خَلَقْنَاكُمْ عَبَثًا وَأَنَّكُمْ إِلَيْنَا لَا تُرْجَعُونَ "Did you think that We had created you in play (without any purpose), and that you would not be brought back to Us?" 23:116 فَتَعَالَى اللَّهُ الْمَلِكُ الْحَقُّ ۖ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْكَرِيمِ So Exalted is ALLAH , the True King, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the Lord of the Supreme Throne! We Muslimeen perform Salawaat a minimum of 5 times a day. You will easily be able to get rid of music from your life if you reflect upon the Qur’aan and read about the example of The Final Messenger of ALLAH صلى الله عليه وسلم and follow his example , إن شآء الله By the way, music is forbidden according to Islam except for Duff during weddings and Eid days.

I feel like music can really influence you as a person. The way you think, how see things, how you feel, it can honestly change you as a person and that can be a good thing and a very dangerous thing. Growing up I was I love with music, I took me through phases, journeys inevitably making memories that I probably would’ve never had if it wasn’t for music’s influence. It’s your theme music, that’s why sometimes you feel like your in a music video. 😭😭

Now, I'm coming from a totally different place, but hear me out, I'm a muslim and music is impermissible in Islam, being practising prevents me from listening to it, scholars in Islam have opinions on how it 'music' has enough power to penetrate the heart therefore shaping the thought process (it's a spiritual thing you know 😅) I left listening to it for 5 years, but now I unfortunately returned to it in order to mediate my emotions, but right now I'm at point where I've realised that music really does take control of your mind, your thought process DOES deplete, and for a person who's trying to have a sharp intellect and conscience, it's important to watch out for stuff like that, and the worst part is that sadly 'music is EVERYWHERE' it's so hard to avoid, but props to you man for realising the harms and working upon that, it takes a strong emotional IQ to figure out something like that, if I see it from your perspective.

I used to listen to music a good amount, like at least an hour and a half each day after school because I believed it was good for me to use it for relaxation and to maybe boost my creativity. But eventually, I realized it was severely harming my productivity. The music I listened to was so overstimulating that it made me unable to feel boredom, making me unmotivated to do anything because I had no reason to if I couldn't get bored even by just sitting around and doing nothing. While learning coding, I would often have music to stimulate me, masking the pain I felt from learning as well as distracting me from really giving coding my all. This wasted a lot of time which I regret. So yeah I decided to stop listening to music completely. Music is very addictive and TBH, I would group it to the same level of productivity as video games. Treat music like video games: minimize the time you spend listening to music, realize it can be just as distracting as video games, realize you should only listen to music on break time to relax or whatever. Just my opinion. Since quitting, my productivity has shot up dramatically since I'm now more focused on what I'm passionate in I will say however that music is really helpful for those rare times when I'm deeply sad (happens like twice a year for me, one or two days each time) because on those days of extreme sadness, I have no energy and no motivation to do anything, even the things I have a passion in, so music is able to fill that gap on those days

Music 🎵🎶 traps you in the past and your current situation, and makes you think about them It interferes with emotional situations you do not need. A total waste of mental space. The more you immerse in it, the more you get thirsty. It drains you, leaves you as an empty void constantly needing more and more supply just to get going. It is a recipe for addiction, an eventual mental bancruptcy. Look at the most accomplished musicians, did they attain peace? Most will end up befriending vices of liquors, drugs and untamed desires. The essence that makes their music successful is the same thing that destroys their inside. Even after such self-sacrifice act, their music label and management are the ones who reap the most profit. In the giant machinary of music industry, a musician is one tiny replacable screw in abundant supply, always prone to exploitation and abuse. If you have conscience, you do not want to be part of such system, not even as a consumer. Music competes with the Qur'an in the real estate of the mind. Just like water and oil, music and the Qur'an do not mix, a gain in one is a loss of the other. The Qur'an gives you freedom and makes you think about the future, a supply of regenerative happiness from the Ultimate Source. The best medication. If only you understand. I don't think everyone will understand me.

In my case, having an endless catalog where I can listen to whatever I want, whenever I want, made listening to music an automatic activity rather than something to actually enjoy. I think it's some sort of saturation, the brain is exhausted and it just feels noisy. I have a tendency to listen to music almost tthe entire day, and I am trying to quit that habit. I set a rule for myself where I am going to listen to music only at night, conciously, like, I will take a time to sit or lay, listen to it and that'll be the only thing I'll do instead of doing it while I scroll or do anything else. I am thinking of cancelling my Apple Music sub and just listen to music on youtube, enjoy some songs and that's it. I think that'll also help appreciate more the songs instead of just playing them in the background while I work or do any other activity.

Drawing Artists benefit from playing music, but at the same time, you can wear out songs from overplaying as happened with Radio - Oasis had a goal to shove Phil Collins off the charts since he dominated them for 20 years! Therapeutic in taking you away, but maybe it's a distraction as well. Too many demands on our attention in the socalled 'attention economy' - we cannot sit and stare at the music player and have our minds wander in peace - fear of missing out ? GIANT Page turning shift in the music biz, big bands have dumped entire albums on youtube to get the click revenue. Black Sabbath being one. About 2018 the band gave up it seems, trying to sell or hide their music. Prince might be the last artist to ever take down videos with his music on the youtube platform - and now some deluxe version of his two best discs is to come out, maybe his estate will ease up. I may have involved Spotify in the title of this video - paying for a streaming service when youtube is now the oldest free streaming service. PS THE MUSIC INDUSTRY down voted this ! Maybe that viewer felt you were too loose in your words to get a reward, Vin !

Music is*fake* artificial emotion to create a story/film/scene/moment so lose yourself in the senses and be one with this thing. A lot of time can be spent doing this which is harmful on a spiritual level because it is entering the ear gates. Entertainment and technology is man made and addiction to this which can easily happen, easily leads to other addictions. More prone which is unfufilling because these sort of behaviours make you feel weak. You succumb easily but you can test and challenge yourself to go against the norm. As music is everywhere nowadays we dont even realize that this is not good unless you are emotionally intelligent and highly intuitive!

Interesting I just spoke to a guy about this, he feels music is too careful now and distrusts the processing, the lack of risk to not use 'correction.' Young people listen to various songs no deep dive into one artist mostly. The song is the destination and often stops there. I saw your playlist, lot of late 1990s stuff, Gaga is modern. No Talk Talk, no Duran Duran ? No Cyndi Lauper - 8 good songs that stand up better than the cold sound of Madonna. ABBA is very melodic, Bee Gees. Ah, 70s not in your list, most big songs by Styx are in the 70s. Styx inspired Queen to do the booming over the top chorus.Perhaps the first rock ballad ever, 'Babe'
