TWO VERY IMPORTANT THINGS... 1) You'll notice some blood on the deck of the boat in a close up of the first fish we caught. That's about 75% fish slime with some blood from the hook set mixed in, making it look worse than it really was. The fish was fine. (I do feel bad for messing up the deck carpeting though... sorry, Alex) 2) The reason I didn't want to use the flashlight on the first fish but did use it on the second one has to do with the size of the fish. The first fish was smaller and the fit of the rig would have put the light right on its eye. That's why I said it would freak it out. The second fish was a little larger so the light sat up above its eye, which I was more comfortable with. Alex and I are both very strict with catch and release for alligator gar. We use circle hooks or very small live bait hooks that we always remove before the release. While this film is edited to highlight the camera experiment, we gave each fish as much time as it wanted to recover before sending it off.

@FarmerFpv Жыл бұрын
@@hlcfishingandadventuring1959 Sport fishermen and hunters care more about the wildlife and the environment a lot more than silly activists, city folks and PETA do. The money we spend all goes back to the conservation of wildlife. People on here who complain we hunt or fish do nothing but look stupid as they do nothing for conservation. It takes more than words to conserve wildlife. They're silly emotions because o animal being hunted or caught does nothing. They will cry and complain and not spend a dime on the conservation side. So screw anyone that complains about a little blood or animals being hunted. Wild animals do the same and they are inhumane to each other, unlike humans who try to make it as humane as possible. Vegans cull more animals than any other industry. To grow soy or vegetables you have to kill every animal in the field before you can plant. That includes ferrets, mink, rabbits, owls, mole rats, and squirrels, and then the animals who depend on them for food suffer even more. Vegans are hypocrites.

Alligator gar have (gar species in general) have very poor eye vision, but like most fish see plenty with their lateral line system that detects vibrations and sends the vibration to the brain through bio mechanical means (notochord) and when it hits the inner ear cavity there is a floating inner ear bone otolith (also widely used in ageing fish) with hairlike nerves that sends singles to the brain on the location of objects, buoyancy and side to side and front to back balance. It detects pressure waves in the water and vibrations as sort of a way of seeing distant objects with a different water pressure sense. Think air when the windows are up versus air when your head is out the window driving type difference. Water translates pressure better so they detect objects this way. There is also a sorta smell navigation they use.
