Something to keep in mind regarding Isaac's characterisation: While he didn't speak in the original, the mission objectives in your log were actually written from his perspective, and they did provide a window into what he was thinking throughout the events of the game (namely, that he was flat-out terrified).

I think Isaac talking is a huge improvement. I've never felt silent protagonists work quite well when it's not a self insert. For something like DS or Pokemon or whatever its fine. But Isaac has his own goals and mind, having him be voiced makes more sense. I get it, the first game has its own identity separate from 2, large in part to Isaacs silence echoed further by the silence and loneliness of the Ishimura itself. But for the sake of story and creating a character. His voice is a huge improvement.
@lukegregory5392 Жыл бұрын
I also think making Issac just another guy instead of a silent bad ass benefits the game. He’s not a guy sent in to destroy the evil on the ship. He’s an engineer who is trying his best to survive this nightmare and search for Nicole

Personally I don’t have an issue with this change as we have pre-established character with DS2 and 3 that I have gotten used to, and it gives the reboot a fresher story experience. 9:57 I completely disagree with this point, the sequels give Isaac a personality and the remake keeps this personality, unless you never played the sequel, it's weird to complain about hearing Isaac speak and converse as if it's for the first time. They decided to make him speak years ago. And it adds a lot more to the narrative, having him voice his own opinions or even make his own decisions. Like in the original Daniel's orders you to fix the comms array but in this game Isaac does it himself. He also goes on the Valor of his own volition and has the idea of launching the beacon on the asteroid out to space. These things elevate the persona that they have been building with Isaac, especially since they decided to introduce the ideas of the marker and unitology much earlier in the story

Well quick resume is available on console because it sleeps the app but saves the state, and since there's only so many things you can do on a console at any given time it's not hard to do. However dead space is doing something entirely different because the game does this from a fully closed state, not a deep sleep or anything like that. It immediately starts loading the map and game the second you launch it, instead of waiting for you to hit continue. Which is something I have never seen before

I hope they can make a sequel somehow, now that they have the experience for it. Also I love the peeling system so much, strategic dismemberment was always innovative to the point even RE took a lot of notes. But peeling allows proper use of which weapon, which enemy and which limb can be cut, making each encounter more dynamic and fluid perhaps even more so than the original Dead Space. Also I can't help but notice, is the enemy AI a bit improved? They usually didn't make those calculated charges in the classic version.

I would say Deadspace and Resident Evil 4 are the definitive games in this genre full stop. To me they are like Final Fantasy 7, Chrono Trigger, Nioh, Dragons Dogma, Call of Duty modern warfare, Super Smash brothers melee, Golden eye or a host of other games that are so well made that they become timeless. I just bought Deadspace for the PS5 over Resident evil 4. For me, the separation between the two has always been: The combat is better in Deadspace but the story and comedy was better in Resident evil 4. Seeing as how the comedy was dialed back in the RE4 remake it was an easy decision.

I really want to play this remake but $70 is a very hard sell for a remake of a game. I have played through multiple times. So I estimate my first playthrough of this remake to take around 6 to 8 hours since I'm familiar with the levels and combat already, Which is a steep price point for the amount of game time you get. The savefile preloading straight into gameplay has got to be one of the coolest, most amazing QoL features I've ever seen in a videogame ever. Edit: Also, I do respectfully disagree with Isaac's voice ruining immersion. For me, Isaac's voice enhances immersion because it finally completes him as a character, as a person: no longer is he an obvious video game self-insert character attempt that gets ordered around like a gofer by everyone else, he's now a space engineer with agency, with personality. A lot of my favorite survival horror games tend to have defined characters in them, from Leon S. Kennedy to Ethan Winters to Sebastian Castellanos to LSTER, etc. I don't want to get immersed by trying to fill in their shoes, I want to be immersed by me guiding their actions and seeing how they react.

Just an fyi, there's a number of games on PS5 that, due to the activity cards, allow you to skip the intro videos/credits when booting up a game and allow you to go straight to the continue option. Some games even allow you to skip even the "load game" menu and jump straight into gameplay from the home screen, like Ghost of Tsushima. If you select "Resume Activity" on GoT it can go from the PS5 home screen (with the game *NOT* on standby) to you in gameplay in like 5-10 seconds. More developers need to take advantage of this and let us skip the "New Game/Load Game" screen and get straight into our most recent save from the PS5 home menu
