I saw this video yesterday and went straight into the garden and got some garden canes from the shed to set up. I got an instant understanding of what this was trying to do. I did more research and eventually bought the iron swing series from Steve's website and watched each video a couple of times before heading straight to the range. I have ALWAYS struggled with cutting across the ball, and i have tried numerous techniques and spent money on lessons looking for the answer. When i got to the range, I setup with proper alignment sticks, put a ball down and got my 7 iron out of my bag. My first swing with this technique produced one of the purest golf shots i've ever hit, an absolutely towering high draw. Now, this has not fixed my swing completely, i still had some tops, i even shanked one!! But there was an absolute improvement in left to right shots and slices, and i believe that if i actually invest time in this technique, i will become a good striker of the ball. I also had a go with driver and for the first time ever was managing to draw shots with the chief. I have a long way to go, but I'm really optimistic after a bucket of 60 balls. One thing that i would find helpful though Steve, is a video on the Eureka Swing where you don't have the alignment sticks, and how you prepare your shots.

Opening my stance with squared up shoulders has made a huge difference in my iron game. For me, it just feels more natural and its MUCH easier to hit solid shots and more at the target. Thanks Steve! If you are ever in the western part of the U.S....beers are on me!

Love the Eureka method - reminds me of the great ball strikers, Hogan, Moe Norman, Trevino, etc., who figured out that a Single Plane was much easier and more functional than waving it around all over the yard. Thanks again Steve !

Extraordinaire Steve! I was practicing everyday a 9 to 3 o'clock swing when I noticed taking the club more inside produced more solid shots. Your lesson confirms my own discovery. You are one of the best golf instructors on KZbin today Steve I only wish that I could hit my irons more like you. Wow! Many thanks!

Steve, this is spot on, I was told by numerous PGA Pro's that feet, knee's and shoulders should be parallel to the ball direction "train track" ended up with a hopeless push most of the time.

Hogan, Palmer, Sarazen.....I hope people understand what great players these men were. Give any of these 3 men modern clubs, modern balls, and they would be the superstars of today. I appreciate your reference to the history of golf.

I have been really struggling with my irons, hitting a lot of high weak shots to the right. Been experimenting with Eureka at the range and it really seems to work. Still work in progress, but I am now excited about getting into the new season.

Thanks Steve. A slightly open stance to target certainly helped my hips to open immediately prior to impact. Boy, does it fly when I do that.

This was a phenomenal piece of advice for my swing. I hit solid strikes and two of my swings with my 7 iron flew ten yards further than my typical total distance! Looking forward to implementing your tip on "the most underrated piece of advice" and work on getting my hands behind my right shoulder at my next range session. Thanks so much!

Love your vids Steve but I feel a lot of golfers may suffer if they start thinking take the hands inside on takeaway; they will start taking the club inside as well which leads to all kinds of problems. Clubhead has to stay outside the hands.

You can take the club inside the hands with an upright swing also.

I spent hours practicing and year's playing trying to keep the clubhead outside the hands, bloody disaster, went from shooting high mid to high 70s to 90s and over, struggled lile hell after lessons, clubhead outside hands, higher plane, i quit the game, started playing again after lockdown this year, back to rounded flatter swing, very similar inside takeaway to this, swing slightly in to out, the only thing i did different was took note about standing open bingo, hitting the ball crispy and solid again now back in love with golf. The moto is don't knock what others teach, find a teacher that you can relate to and what works for the individual and this works for me, for me its natural and simple and very importantly I'm in my mid 60s and puts absolutely no strain on my body and can hit a consistent penetrating sneaky long draw.

Thanks, great vid again Steve. I tend to fall into the habit of having my stance too 'closed', with my feet parallel to my shoulders, whereas your stance is much more open, giving you more space to turn on plane. I need to practice that

At 68 I am looking for tips on how to adjust my whole game because of the strength and power I've lost due to age. Most of my poor distance comes from mishits than anything else. Your lessons help immensely. Thank you.

Simular issues here, 63. Can't clear the hips like I used to be able to do, which leads to more flipping of the club. This set up makes clearing the hips easy. Solid strikes again. 👌

I’ve been playing golf for 50 years and still play good golf. He is correct with this instruction. Everything changed for the better when I adapted my swing to this style many years ago.

Interesting concept. I'm 70 with limited flex in lower back. I tried this today and my first strike with 9 iron was pure, not so much with second try. I have one question though. I understand the alignment of feet, shoulders and swing path, but on the set up, is the blade square to target or square to alignment stick swinging out to right? appears square to shoulders or center stick.

Hi Steve. You have just shown what I now know to be true; that the trail shoulder blade is the principle axis and the upper trail arm is the principle lever inside our body that moves the golf club. And so all we need to consider in our golf swing is that as long as we keep the two in the exact location and direction you have shown us in your video today; the rest of our body will responds automatically to our swinging the club. Bravo! ❤️⛳️😃👍

@@natmcintosh6698 As Steve is correctly showing in this video we should never raise our hands above our neck. Also note his trail elbow closeness to his trail rib cage I think the whole idea of achieving a great swing is keeping the swing circle center intact. No longer swaying our body. Our trail shoulder blade retracts towards our spine on our backswing. One can see this in any great players swing especially females I now simply swing my club with my upper arms. How? At 73 on my backswing while in my golf posture I simply move my trail elbow away from my trail rib cage to get my upper body turning knowing that my lower trail upper leg naturally will turns in the opposite direction as long as my trail foot is flat on the ground. Please note the placement of Steve’s foot. I am no longer focused on my scapula whatsoever. My downswing is a simultaneous pushing of my trail upper arm from my elbow on up against my trail rip cage along with a quick flexing of my trail knee towards my lead leg. That is all I am consciously doing. My central nervous system does the rest for me. I am controlling absolutely nothing from my elbows ; forearm; hands; wrist; or club head as my ball is simply set in the way of my swinging my club. Although I cannot get inside his head I believe this is what Steve is doing as well. Although often times I simply start my downswing with the flexing of the trail knee to the lead leg. (Watch Steve’s trail knee on his downswing) This works especially well as I have created enough torque between my upper and lower body by keeping my trail foot flat on the ground and my weight on my trail ankle until I immediately release such weight to start my downswing. I just happened upon this Eureka method when browsing and without any practice tried it out on the course. I was hugely surprised at the outcome, from Driver to Wedge and fully intend to continue using it as it felt so comfortable .👍

You know it’s so funny because most of my instructors always said I took the club too far inside on the way back but I always felt extremely comfortable taking the club inside during the take away because it sets me up on the proper downswing path to hit the ball with more power , However I did struggle a lot well I still do struggle a lot with a forward leaning shaft with any real compression I’m always scooping and flipping at impact

i think the first lesson to give to a golfer that is tall, like you- about 6"2 or 3- is that they don't need to get to the horizontal. sometimes a player can get too steep in their effort to get to the horizontal. and, really there is a lot to be said for only swinging the club up to the highest point of elevation. that way the club will start down when we start down. you are actually using a very similar technique to the one tony jacklin used in his 1969 book: standing open and taking it back on the inside. you do have quite a bit of recoil in the downswing. i do agree that the body should open up in the downswing; but we should never try to turn the body, or hip, to the left. it dismantles all the swing coil. we need the swing coil to increase in the start of the downswing. previously, we have been taught to imagine a line from the hands to the ball and to swing down on the that line. but, of course, this blocks us out and the body doesn't turn. the key to increasing coil in the downswing, starting down on the inside and getting the body to turn, is to just simply keep the left arm out of your peripheral vision in the downswing. the left chest reacts against the left arm (antagonistic opposites) and turns to the left- increasing the swing coil. pressing in with the joint of the left wrist helps.

I’ve always had a swing similar to that,coming back low but I have a tendency to hit what I call a power draw...but that’s just to make me feel better about a hook. How can I combat that by coming back into the slot and swing through? Thanks I love your videos

A year later, but: if your power draw is consistent, open the face a bit at address and swing the same swing. Should straighten out. Open face a bit more for a fade. Same swing for all

The SAT book is great, but the old VHS tapes and DVD's are priceless for the short game stuff. Chipping with stack and tilt consistency is one of the hallmarks that nobody talks about. Word to the wise, chipping the SAT way is nothing like the full swing. The club never goes inside on the takeaway, it's all down the line and you just rock the shoulders to chip. The old videos from Plummer and Bennet explain it fully.

Steve, can you hit a fade with this setup and swing path? If not, what adjustments would you make to hit a consistent, baby fade as your stock ball flight? I’m 76, not as athletic as I once was, and I’ve been fighting the hook for several years now. I can fix it by taking an open stance as you do here and not letting my forearms roll over through impact, but my swing path is definitely more vertical (similar to Jack Nicklaus). Can you hit a fade with that flatter swing plane?

Hi Steve, great video but I have a question. When I am on the course playing I thought that you set you feet, knees, hips, shoulders etc in parallel to the target but in your video your stance was open on every shot. Is this how I should set up when I am playing?

A flatter swing is definitely better, but it's much harder to hit the ball square, compared to a vertical swing. That's why a lot of amateurs can't do it.

people below not understanding the power part. he is explaining from a high wide position to a lower wide position, its no longer a glancing blow. i myself cannot get on with the open feet position, but coming from a slicer to a drawer of the ball after Steve`s vids is well worth it. my bad shot know is a flushed push 15 yards right (1:20 pull shot from casting)

Wow, always have feet and shoulders square to target, it has all the characteristics of stack n tilt, until the open stance position of the feet. Again, easy to follow presentation. This, open stance has me intrigued! Let’s go check it out!!

Hi Steve, thank you very much for the 'Eureka' refresher lesson. I have now found it very useful to check my alignments with the canes regularly because very easy to slip into bad habits ie shoulders parallel to feet/hips instead of target! Makes a big difference to have set up as you demonstrate.

Man, I found your stuff and Im så happy, your swing is the swing Im trying to do. When Im at top of my backswing, the only move I think about from there is to plant my pressure on leadside and rotate my hips with speed and some aggression. Am I right?

Love the explanation of getting the club in the slot with the butt end of the club following along the path of ball getting in the way, watched a video on Golf University for a golf swing for a senior golfer and he explained it the same way of getting the butt end of the club looking down the path of club getting in the way of the ball, and both of these have helped my golf swing to being more consistent and scoring better

Same as most people here. Always taught to have everything in line with the target. My bad shots are always pulled or hooked left. Playing this Friday and will put it to the test. If it works then I might just travel up to Peebles with a wee dram for you. Best wishes. Robert Doran

i found this technique yesterday and purchased the iron swing series. After working irons for an hour on the range i took out the driver and found that my sever left to right was vastly improved, i even managed to pull out a couple of high draws with driver, which for me, is unheard of!!

Shawn most certainly does not hit it from steep positions. His backswing matches the intended flight pattern. But he drops it into the slot 100% of the time. This swing pattern would lead to a consistent draw or, if you wanted to line up way open, then weaken the grip, a push fade.

Started to watch your videos around February and i am now just about hitting the golf ball more solid, i had a very over the top swing no consistency. Hoping to get under 100 that is my aim now and thanks to Ste i can see myself doing this soon.

Hi again Steve. Best video on You Tube to date. You have validated my own swing. As You are correctly showing in this video we should never raise our hands above our neck as this displaces our trail scapula and no good can come out of this whatsoever. I would also note your trail elbow closeness to his trail rib cage. Bravo! I think the whole idea of achieving a great swing is keeping the swing circle center intact as you have and no longer swaying our body. Our trail shoulder blade retracts towards our spine on our backswing. One can see this in any great players swing especially females I now simply swing my club with my upper arms. As I think you might be doing as well: but if you don’t mind with my own swing thoughts that I would love to share now How? At 73 on my backswing while in my golf posture I simply move my trail elbow away from my trail rib cage to get my upper body turning knowing that my lower trail upper leg naturally will turns in the opposite direction as long as my trail foot is flat on the ground. Please note the placement of your trail foot as well I am no longer focused on my scapula whatsoever. My downswing is a simultaneous pushing of my trail upper arm from my elbow on up against my trail rip cage along with a quick flexing of my trail knee towards my lead leg. That is all I am consciously doing. My central nervous system does the rest for me. I am controlling absolutely nothing from my elbows ; forearm; hands; wrist; or club head as my ball is simply set in the way of my swinging my club. Although I cannot get inside your head I believe this is what you are doing as well. Although often times I simply start my downswing with the flexing of the trail knee to the lead leg. ( Watch your trail knee on your downswing) This works especially well as I have created enough torque between my upper and lower body by keeping my trail foot flat on the ground and my weight on my trail ankle until I immediately release such weight to my lead side to start my downswing. Legend absolute legend. Im just finding my swing this passed few weeks and that bit you said about 'tracing the red stick" on the back swing 👍. Thanks I often got ppl saying take the club straight back and straight through ¿ that just takes the hands away from the body and disconnects ya.... i always applied this on the straight line from ball to target, i was thinking it all wrong for years. Perfect timing on the vid for where im at it my learning
