In this video, I recount memories from USAF Pilot Training - more than FIFTY years ago! (GASP!) Great video. I went through Navy flight training in Pensacola in '67 and it pretty much followed what you experienced. We did two carrier qualifications in training, one just after finishing Basic, then another at the end of Advanced just before winging. Great experience. Enjoyed your talk very much and look forward to more!

Thanks so much for all that, Charles. Seems like you were only a couple years ahead of me. I think I would have had a problem putting my KC-135 down on a postage stamp in the ocean, but John Nance wrote a novel (I think) where someone did just that in a large passenger jet. I've got a few more flying memories videos planned here on the vlog, including one about "Dragging a Phantom to Guam" pretty soon. Take care.

I went through the t-37 phase in mid '70. I don't remember any acro in formation. Sounds like fun! I used pro-spin rudder for spin recovery on a training flight. I'm glad there was an IP aboard!!! The spin rate increased about four or five times and the IP was screaming "I'VE GOT IT!!". Very memorable. I don't think I would have survived if I had been solo. I went back as a FAIP in the T-38 and karma used several students show me how that felt to the IP. Not with a spin, but equally interesting situations.

I've always wondered if FAIPs had enough background to be teachers. I imagine some were, but I'm also certain many were not. Now, more than 50 years later, I KNOW I could be an infinitely better IP than I could have been back then. Take care!

Vid description: "flying a supersonic aircraft in formation with other aircraft" Vid title: "Supersonic Formation Flying!" Those are two different things. If you intended to do a clickbait title, it sure sucked me in. Nobody does supersonic formation, so I should have known better.

Sorry, I do not see them as two different things, because I actually did fly a T-38 at Mach 1.2 in close formation with another T-38. I'm guessing you didn't watch the entire video. For you to state "Nobody does supersonic formation" indicates this vividly, and also illustrates your own lack of experience and perspective. Please check your facts before you publicly attempt to excoriate others.
