Just to add a couple points: 1- The gnome building in Azshara is accesible by a road from the main land. Is one of the many hidden vendors in the game. I think this one sells the mythril dragonling schematics or something like that. Sorry is been nearly 15 years since i went there for the last time. 2- The Heliport is for an alliance quest that starts at Ironforge where you had to go to Azshara and recover 3 gems. Then you had to go there and Brann would come in his flying machine to pick em up. I love that detail. It was the 1st time i saw one of those actualy moving and not just in display. 3- Those "random" anchors arent actualy that random. They act as landmarks for quests. As you know , originaly there wasn't a tracking function that told you were to go for your quest, so you had to find whatever it was you were looking for using the directions given in the quest text. Anchors were used often to point you towards the treasure, or sometimes, the treasure was literaly under it, or the mob you were looking was next to it or close, or the quest would say "swim down west from the giant anchor". Desolace is one of my favorite vanilla zones. The quests in the underwater ruins were always so much fun for me. I know lots of people hate underwater quests, but i find them, excuse the pun, a breath of fresh air, from all the regular land quests. And i just love the underwater ambiences. I think the game needs those quests more often.

At the Zoram Strand, there is a Giant turtle skeleton near to where the main tributary meets the sand and grass border... The interesting this about it, is that it has a manmade structure on its giant shell, akin to East Asian architecture... I found it a few weeks ago while levelling another toon. I had seen it many times before on many other toons over the years, but this is the first time I had actually taken note of it. I couldn't find anything out about it though. But made me think if it was a long abandoned foreshadowing of MoP... though I'm unsure if that aspect of lore was even a concept back in classic.

My favourite one is at the edge of the coastal seabed at the westernmost part of Westfal - just where it starts to become steep into the ocean floor. Halfway down where your breath would end, there's a chest for the druid aquatic form quest. When you go there the atmosphere and water color become darker and really eerie, and you can see a shipwreck waaaaaaay down at the ocean floor. I was so scared when I first went there (was like 12 years old at the time). I wanted to go to the ship, but I felt overwhelming doom, haha. I played WoW back in classic through to wrath. My first character was a NE druid. Back then the game was shiney and new and more importantly, the breath mechanic was far more dangerous at the time. You could drown within about 30 seconds or so. This made Druids and Warlocks kings of underwater combat. But yeah i was filled with wonder by the game and i ended up doing something quite simular to what you're doing, though i didn't set a goal or anything. I swam the coasts making discoveries, i was so enthralled with the undersea life that i ended up spending nearly a week just swimming around the coasts and discovering what i could. The waters were far more dangerous than they are nowadays, or at least it seems so. I remember there used to be large elite sharks that would prowl around the deeper parts near the fatigue zones. The last time i checked (during legion) they were all gone.

My fun fact about Darkshore: there are bunch of quests about examining the turtle skeletons along the coasts, whose style reminds of pandaren mounts, but this isn't said ingame. Maybe this is a foreshadowing to the upcoming Mists of Pandaria expansion. I think this, because there is also another quest in Darkshore about a glowing red crystal which makes the moonkins angry, and we don't know who put it there. It is now clear that it should be a part of the nearby draenei mothership, so this quest foreshadows the Burning Crusade expansion.

Going from Plague brown towards lush green really aided in that feeling though.

Yep! Just one quest was kept for the actual release of Classic which is unfortunate... one of the great lost questlines in history! :)

What a beautiful content you're doing here. My thalassophobia drives me crazy sometimes, when I'm trying to do the same. Was flying from Fjord to Eastern Kingdoms with my extremely fast DK and reached the noflying zone of the extremely dark sea. Continued to run on regular mount with the help of Path of Frost until death from fatigue. Reached more than a halfway and got almost near the Eastern Kingdoms most Northwestern point. Was scared af thou, coz it's a dark dark sea with no borders and bottom. Resurrected in Barrens somehow after that. Love your work, coz I'm playing WoW exactly the same with a lot of love to scenery and locations of Classic. BTW, what programs you use to capture locations of Classic from above with such smoothness. I can fly in TBC and WotLK to capture footages, but in Vanilla regions there is no flying, but you somehow capture locations from far distances and height.

Thank you for the thoughtful comment! :) I play on a WotLK private server to film these videos, and the videos where I have "flying" overhead shots are actually retrieved by the server's GM, Wowmaster! He helps me out with some of my video gathering... I think he has commands where he either can fly slowly or he modifies where the camera can go! Not sure too much beyond that but I appreciate the question!

@@Jediwarlock thanks for the info. Thought it's some sort of private server feature and it is. :) It looks so clean and smooth. The type of content I was looking for in a while, enjoying it so much. Wish you good luck with it. And waiting for more water runs. :D Was questing in The Storm Peaks yesterday and saw an Island in the northwestern part, flew through fatigue and reached Hrothgar's Landing. Never knew about it and I'm playing WoW for almost 14 years. New discoveries every time. :D Also, I'm wondering, if it's possible to remove water from the world entirely to look and walk at the bottom of the sea. There was a bug on Classic PTR where somehow the oceans are missing in the Blood Elf and Draenei Starting zones, as well as on the Isle of Quel'danas. Really want to watch it. :D

I think all new players do this? I started at northern Darkshore, but couldn't get past the high level mobs in the water off Aszhara, so portalled out after dying a few times. This was shortly before Cataclysm.
@Jediwarlock2 жыл бұрын
Haha, I think a lot of new players attempt it too ;) ... or at least the adventurous ones!

done some water exploring back in real classic dont know if its still live but right at the get go between ratchet and durotar used to be a elite shark (i think to prevent shamans in vally of trials from jumping from their earth totem quest over to ratchet :D ) and in azshara used to be a dark portal what was a placeholder for a moba style battleground that got canceled
@Jediwarlock2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment! :) I did not see that Ratchet shark on this WotLK Classic server, but I have heard of that old Azshara portal! I looked around for it for a bit but then researched it and it seems it was removed in the Alpha since it was used as a portal placeholder… maybe there was supposed to be a naga dungeon in Azshara originally? ;)

Haha, very observant! Yes, I play on a private WotLK server, it's run by the GM of the server named Wowmaster who I've known for a long time. :) it's been a very unique experience and I'm glad I'm still able to share pieces of the world with you all!
