You missed one point about the scouts which I learned from one of your (!) earlier videos: Scouts can be very rewarding when you meet city states first. Two scouts are often very good because when you meet for example a cultural city state it's like an extra monument you get as a gift (+2 culture). If you meet only one city state first it's just fine, but often you meet two or three first and this is the point when I realized that scouts are extremely useful. Just think of the science or production bonusses you can get from them!
@pandora3224

My favorite reason for playing on marathon; 17 turns for that first scout but in a 2000 turn game, you can find 6+ city states before anyone else of playing on Large or Huge maps.

So when it comes to First meetings, this is what i found. - When you meet another civ, one of the three different scenarios will happen: 1. If you meet them within 6 tiles of their nearest city, they can ask you to sample their hospitality. If you agree, their nearest city is revealed to you. 2. If you meet them within 6 tiles of your nearest city, you can ask them to sample your hospitality. Same effects, but other way around than in scenario 1. 3. If you meet them outside of the 6 tiles range, you can propose to exchange locations of capitals. Capitals are revealed for both of you. - Making a favorable first impression: First impressions are determined by the first of your units your rival sees. The effect eventually wears off. - Satisfying/ going against their agenda, So basically the first impression is random score.
@Jack_Rakan
@Jack_Rakan 4 жыл бұрын
I think the first impression bonus is also dependent on difficulty. On deity I've only ever gotten a good first impression 3 or 4 times. Otherwise, it doesn't matter if I find them with a scout or combat unit, they almost always get a -3 bad first impression.

When i know I'm on a peninsula, I usually send the warrior towards it. Since the scout is faster than the warrior, I try to send the warrior towards the smaller part of the map. That way, it tends to stay closer to my capitol to defend against barbarians. The scout can cover more ground, so it's better suited to exploring the larger part of the map.

One thing I've noticed is that exchanging information with a civ when you first meet them increases their First Impression score. I tested this by reloading and trying both options. I don't remember the exact value of the difference (I did the test over a year ago), but it was enough that I tend to just be nice to every civ I meet IF I can afford a delegation with them the next turn. That seems to be a reliable way to keep the AI from attacking in the very early game.

DIY Miracle I just learned this and it saves so much time! And saves me mistakes, because honestly - having to go to the Civilpedia usually means I convince myself I “actually remember it perfectly” and so DON’T look it up; which is stupid and never correct, lol.

I’m playing as Saladin rn and while the production ain’t as good as I like the faith is insane. I was able to spam Lahore units and just roll over Colombia and Zulu. Not sure how good that strat is on higher difficulties but usually dom is hard early game for me and this was stupid easy

automatically been guaranteed a great prophet/a religion is pretty huge on higher difficulties, since it can be very dicey trying to get a religion and even GOING for a religion is risky since you have to forgo other early infrastructure (including/especially Campuses) to do so. So as Potato says, the awesome part about Saladin is you don't have to choose, you can have the religion without losing the science (or visa versa).

watching 2 of your vids an me realising how bad i actually was (i just played 2-3 games tho until now) instantly getting better with just the knowledge and turn up the difficulty to the 2nd hardest. thanks for overexplaining, i love things to think about ♥ and it actually made the game way better for me, so i can enjoy science and culture strategies too

The beginning part of the game is just so crucial to what happens in the game as a whole. It's much like the opening in chess, and debatably even more important

You could have also mentioned when you were first talking about policy cards and Discipline vs Survey If you're playing as Germany, because they don't HAVE to make that choice. Iin fact, they don't get a choice at all. They HAVE to take BOTH of them because their ability gives them a military policy card in all governments. But since this is an Arabia game, I forgive it ;) Also, Arabia's ability to get a religion is REALLY good. On paper. It's been my experience that if you don't get the first belief, you won't get the religious beliefs you want. Feed the World and Meeting Houses (it WAS Warrior Monks before one of the patches, but it's Feed the World now) On promotions. One thing I've discovered is that your units don't gain XP if they're ready for a promotion. It's not like D&D where any XP you gain after you gain a level, but before you take the level, rolls over to the next level. Any XP over what's needed for the level is lost. That's why I take a promotion immediately.

The AI first impressions of you is determined by how many turns it takes to meet you ( not taking into effect hidden agendas etc) , not by the unit they meet. It improves by 2 points every 10 turns from a preset -10 at turn 1. You met Rome on turn 10 = 10 -2 = -8 You met Pachakuchi on turn 40 = -2 / You also met Georgia on turn 40 = -2 ( plus -2 for not having walls ) giving the -4 from her

I would love to have the instant tornado over a barb camp mod, what is the hot key for that ? lol. I actually cheered when that happened, finally, justice for those times when 3 barb camps all spawn at the same time and I face multiple horsemen, horse archers and swordsmen with only a warrior and slinger to sort them out. Great content as always, thankyou :) Avidly wait to purchase a " Im a spuddie" mug , or " left click should NOT mean move!" T shirt, keep up the good work !
