One of your BEST videos so far. Mainly because you're guiding an inexperienced person and giving him tips on what he's doing wrong with his technique. This is invaluable for those of us DIYing a bathroom. Watching you work as a professional doesn't cue us into mistakes we amateurs would make to the same degree.

I agree ! Issac is an excellent video commentator and instructor, when he is not doing the install. This is a differnet technique and I would suggest very valuable to all his followers. Eric does a great job, follows instructions well, listens and performs.

As a General contractor I am amazed by the lack of knowledge so many tradesmen have. I can't tell you how many times I have had to tell subs how to do the job correctly! I started out in high school building rentals for my dad , then worked for a remodeling contractor ( who did every trade in house) for two years and by then I was running the crew. I got my license and started my own buisness shortly there after. I have vast knowledge in every trade and am very meticulous with my work and so very proud of it. There is no reason anybody should screw up a job when youtube is available to learn! Keep up the video's ! My suggestion would be to always use color matched caulk at the seams( there will always be movement, settling etc.) and put membrane on shower floor first before the perimeter bands. I really don't like the concept of using thinset in between because it gets wet and wicks water, so I use the liquid /caulk warerproofing method I still hot mop and float at times. Never had a singe call back on any of my jobs and been licensed since 1993!!!!!

It's very rare that I comment on youtube videos or reviews and I am compelled to express my gratitude for what Tile Coach brings the the DIY'er scene. I am just embarking on a huge bathroom remodel with a 62x62 zero entry doorless shower and much more. I have dug through countless youtube videos and I can say without hesitation you are a straight shooter, genuine and thorough. I appreciate you and your team for all you do. GREAT VIDEO. Watching a hands-on beginner while getting expert instruction through the process is so helpful. Often when pros install they forget to identify the difficulties because they don't have them or they don't want to show them. Those who watch learn from seeing mistakes, but teaching while letting someone else do the work is the key. Hope you post a video of laying the tile on floor and walls. Thank you.

I really liked this video. There is something different between watching you do something correctly and telling us how to do it and allowing someone else do it with similar experience to us and then coaching him to do it properly. Huge thanks. Also, props to Eric for getting out and being videoed through the process. Thanks Eric!

Hi Isaac, I'm a DIY'er and long time viewer of the channel. After a year of watching your videos, I tackled my first tiling project; a shower/bath remodel. I've done plumbing, electrical, carpentry, landscaping, and the hardest by far is tiling. Tilers earn every dollar they get paid and then some. I've learned so much from you and I still made mistakes (some things you can only learn through experience). What I don't understand, however, is how you stay so clean through all your videos! LOL.

Things I appreciate about this video: 1. We see how easy it is for a DIY to go wrong. 2. You show us why the DIY went wrong. 3. You showed him how to do it right. 4. We got to see exactly how fast it's likely to go when you have an inexperienced person doing this. You do this with lightning speed because you've been doing this for years, the technique is muscle memory for you. When we do it at home, we should expect it to take 4x longer than anything you do.

Why not fully overlap the corners with the long strips? Too much build up? If you cut them even slightly too short won't there be a possible gap for a leak? By the way great video! One of the best.
@PineyJustice
@PineyJustice 7 ай бұрын
They are overlapped, by 2". The corner pieces go 4" out from the corner and are already double layer from the outside corner band or corner band for 2" out from corner, the extra 2" is where that overlap happens keeping it at 2 layers and keeping a 2" overlap as required by these systems.

My four keys to a lifetime shower: 1. No cementitious substrates, period. Not the walls not the slope.... nowhere. It’s 2024 and there are waaay better choices that do not become 200 pound sponges with daily use. 2. Proper monolithic waterproofing. All seams, all penetrations. The tile and grout are there for aesthetics and clean-ability only. 3. Proper ventilation. Something that never gets mention in any of the top tile channels on YT. Train the grout and tile to dry to the air, not into the substrates. 300 cfm in-line ventilators will work for most bathrooms, on a digital timer that can be set to run 30-60 minutes beyond the time it takes to take a shower. THIS IS CRITICAL. 4. No bleach-based, ammonia-based or anhydrous cleaners (which is 90% of the cleaning market). Plant-based cleaners only. To assist with this, customer needs to train themselves to squeegee after every shower and towel off the fixtures. It’s worth it!

This comment is about a job you did about 4 years ago. It was called Grandpa Bath. Two questions. First, on the glass tiles you had to fill in the individual pieces on the left and right edge. Can you buy individual pieces or did you have to cut those from tile squares? The second question was about the pencil tile you used as a perimeter around the glass tile. I wondered if the joints would have looked better if they were lined up with the subway tiles. Just wondering.

Hi Isaac, thank you for your great teaching. I have a question for you. I have to lay 24x24 (3x8) tiles with Mapei-modified cement with a 1/2x1/2 trowel. Considering your great skill, once completed that, what would be the approximate thickness of the tile plus the cement after the back-and-forth compression during the laying (3/8 tile + ciment) = ?. Thank you André

Hi, been watching a lot of these videos. I did purchase a FloFx drain. I have a question with using it on subfloor and water proofing. Thought I would put down plastic and chicken wire. Then Dry pack. After that not sure what the best membrane is. I’m using 2x4’s and cement board for the curb. Like to do a roll on membrane feel like it’s easier with some thin set and tape. Or should I be using a membrane sheet. I also seen video of using membrane sheet under the dry pack. I don’t know if that has to do with the type of drain. Enjoy the videos thanks.

@bravelion2009

I just installed the RSS Pro Pan and it is awesome. So glad I went with it compared to the HD. The Pro Pan has cut-outs along the edges to set the foam cement walls into and then you can use the RSS Sealant where the pan meets the walls and you don't have to use any of the banding at all. The HD Pan does not have the cutouts so you have to use the banding which is a lot more work in my opinion. I found it worth the extra cost over the HD.

Great to see you teaching a DIY'R, I am surprised in the US you haven't adopted flexible membranes more and stick with thin set application, I know you have Red Guard and there sems to be problems with that product, in Australia we solely use Class III flexible membranes for waterproofing, much easier to apply, if done properly they will last 20-30 years or more, maybe you still have "step 2" to do which is membrane application ?

If all of your channels made by your trowel don't line up, how do you get enough air out? I have noticed before on other videos where you have intersecting channels. There is a video where a guy showed how you can't possibly collapse the channels with intersecting lines. He used glass to show the trapped air. Shouldn't this be a bigger concern? I always make sure my channels go unimpeded to get my coverage on the back of my work. My EDIT: Not speaking about the fabric application so much as with the one piece foam and other tile videos.

@sampon9328 Supposed to be a minimum 2 inch overlap to any gaps. Water can get through where the corner and band meet because its not overlapping. I don't see anything about the design that would prevent that. They are the same as schluter.
