@@stoneseabolt the same way you make it to the same age and you’re too ignorant to understand that there’s an entire production and distribution chain that is necessary to put the products on the shelf at Walmart, and everyone should just get a universal basic income and no one should work and we should all just eat the food that magically grows, wraps itself and gently lays itself upon the shelves before us. Not saying anything bad about Tyler. He’s cool. Silicone is quite heat resistant. A good soldering iron (which is used at 380°C or more) will usually have a silicone insulated cable, so that the soldering iron will not be able to melt it. And as you noticed, silicone is super soft. So the cables are very flexible and comfortable to use, but easy to cut through.

That propane torch gets up to 3,600 degrees Fahrenheit. The 'ove' glove is rated more for a few licks of flame from cooking over a campfire with flames around 1000-1500 Fahrenheit. I've used them as my oven mitt for over 10 years and they work well. Like you said, you can feel the heat soak in after a few seconds but by then you're done touching the pan and you can take it off.

The gloves were only rated for dry heat though, not for hot liquids... Basically any kind of glove that isn't waterproof is likely going to result the same. If you're that clumsy with pouring boiling water, you can wear some real leather gloves and apply some leather waterproofing spray to it, and it'll make the boiling water feel warm, but it won't burn the skin.

The Ov-Glove is a great product! It is designed to protect your hands when taking hot things out of the oven. It’s not designed to protect you from a propane torch or to protect you from cuts. It does what it’s supposed to do very well. It’s only real drawback is that hot liquids will go right through it . Be careful when handling hot dishes that contain a lot of liquid. I can’t think of a single recipe that calls for a temperature of over 450 degrees, so we’re good there.

The problem I have with the Ove glove is that a blow tour has is fire compared to an oven which is indirect heat, you can’t compare a glove that’s for the oven to an open flame when that flame can get to almost 800-1000 degrees F and even the broil setting on your oven can’t get that high. So in the end you didn’t give the glove a fighting chance.

Whenever he does a video that involves food I always get the impression he doesn't eat anything. He's always like "i don't eat this or that". Maybe he'd be willing to do a "what I eat on a day" type of video.

We love our Ove gloves. They work really well. They aren't torch or knife resistant. Regular oven mitts aren't torch or knife resistant either.

Ginsu knives are awesome. I have a few I bought in the '90s and I still use them, and not just in the kitchen. I've even used one for cutting shingles when I ran out of razors.

I have the Ov-glove and bought it when it first came out waaaaaay back when. Love it! Heat the skillet and lay it in the skillet, it won't melt. If you were to burn down the house, yes, the glove would burn also. A skillet can not be used on a hot plate, it gets waaaaaay to hot and will distroy the hot plate. If you watch the knife commercial, he chops the wood at the base of the knife, then he cuts the tomato at the tip of the knife. BTW Garlic skin is different than onion skin, so you have to peel the onion before chopping.

I have an Ove Glove, but I don't use it for cooking. I actually use it to grab and readjust burning logs inside my fireplace. Mine works great, never been burned through it even after touching logs that are on fire.

Silicone is commonly used as an industrial insulator and can easily withstand temperatures up to 300C and ignites at a temperature of around 450C. While this is perfectly fine in an kitchen environment, a blow torch will generate heat more than 3 times as much. Also, silicone doesn't melt.

This comment goes with the glove. I work at subway, and the toaster is about 512 degrees F just sitting at idle. It gets hotter when you toast or heat stuff in it. The tan things we put meat Into are made of silicone, and they don't melt..obviously. they get a lot more flexible, but don't melt

It's weird. I cook a lot, and the SlapChop was one of the most seemingly gimmicky things I'd ever seen. But I got gifted one, and when I decided to just try it out, I was genuinely impressed with how well it worked. Obviously useless for any sort of precision chopping or the like, but if you need to break down a bunch of onions, garlic, so on and so forth for a sauce, stock, soup, just about anything where a bunch of small pieces of something is required, it's actually kind of amazing.

I know I'm late on this one, but I have to tell you a couple things about a couple of those products. The Slap Chop has been around since well before you were born. I used one when I was 10... I'm 53 now. Ginsu has been making those claims since before you were born, and somehow, they've always managed to back them up by their performance. I've used the Ove Glove before... I burned my hand worse than when I took a stainless steel pan out of a 400° oven bare-handed. Yes, I burned my hand then too, but not quite as badly as when I used the Ove Glove. Bare handed 400° pan = blisters for a day. Ove Glove 350° pan, I lost skin.

Also, a propane torch burns at over 3000 degrees. An “open flame” such as an oven, stove, or campfire, rarely reaches about 1000.
