I just want to note, there is a heroic way to save everyone in Origins. You can petition the Circle to save Connor without Blood Magic. You can lift the curse on the wolves in the forest. You can even spare Loghain if you want. I know what you're saying, it has those dark options that Veilguard doesn't, but I just wanted to note that you can always make the best choice rather than the best choice you're offered to resolve it right that second. It's the lack of those choices to explore a character's moral alignment that has been missing largely since DA2 (Hawke can be evil, but Kirkwall has less impact on the world than Origins or Inquisition, so one bastard making some evil choices isn't huge but still relevant). In the rest of the games you can make questionable choices, and even some evil ones in 2, but since DAI, there hasn't really been an option to be the bad guy. I'm personally fine with it, but I can see where it would rub some wrong, especially after the masterpiece that is BG3 as Dark Urge.

you can even play DAI as a jerk bad guy, yiu can kill off almost everyone you judge, leave blackwall to die in prison, dont save the chargers, push cullen to death by consumption of lyrium, punch solas & dorian and throw the latter to leave, force cassandra to be drunk and say how wrong she was in choosing you as a leader, let celene die in halamsharal by actively choosing not to save her, throw away the grey wardens out from South. Pretty sure in inquisition you had lot of Roleplaying to shape up your personality and character..Veilguard offers nothing

So Dragon Age Identity is in my opinion 3 things: Borrowing body horror visuals and designs for the core villian of the setting, the Blight; struggle with morality of decisions on the main character and examining of the human condition on part of the supporting characters; and last but not least feudal machiavelian politics. Dragon Age Origins played into each of the 3 points fairly equally though the body horror aspect was fairly front and center. DA2 was also fairly balanced though with a bit less focus on the blight and darkspawn and more of a focus on morality and companions. DAI has pulled even further back on the body horror elements entrenched in the setting and moved very hard on the feudal machiavelian politics. Now the way that DA2 and DAI moved away a bit from the body horror desingn and visuals wasn't also just a shift in focus. DA2 updated the absolutly attrocious combat of DA:O and DAI build upon it. By making the combat system a bit more flash the effect of the body horror elements just vanished. Sitting in a dark forest in the middle of nowhere with just a breakfast knife and a candle hits different compared to having NVG and a B.F.G. Yet it was those elements that together with the other 2 that gave DA its dark fantasy identity. Dragon Age Veilguard gamified the Blight and Darkspawn and while giving us the best combat and skill system in the entire series absolutly overdid it on spectale rendring the blight comical. It sanitized the Crows and Lords of Fortune in order to make them family friendly (???) and stripped away any serious questions about ethics or morality out of the game. Wheres feudal machiavelian politics are only present in an nointereactive companion quest line. Despite DA2 and DAI together being a fairly big departure from DA:O each of the 3 games focused on a different aspect of the settings core pillars. Pillars that Dragon Age Veilguard outright abbadoned.

😂😂 you can pretty much save connor , Isholde both in origins. You dont have to sacrifice anyone. Just go to circle of magi and ask for help

I have done two full play troughs of Veilguard and have only played Inquisition prior. I still enjoyed the Veilguard, but the things i like about it came from other games, not Dragon Age. You haven't gone crazy. I kind of expected the art style and combat to move in this direction, but i would have never guessed that they would overshoot the target so far that they would alienate their own fans. The dialog, game world and game design are so incredibly simplified that it coddles players to an extend that it insults their intelligence. It's like they didn't understand their own audience.

The correlation between DEI and poor game design or storytelling feels undeniable. In my view, DEI-driven decisions often reflect broader trends like dumbing down, safe-spacing, and cancel culture (woke capitalism). Studios play it safe out of fear-fear of breaking from mainstream narratives or being seen as exclusive or offensive. The result? Boring, shallow games that sacrifice depth and character for ideology. Examples like The Last of Us 2 (so bad!), the ending of Game of Thrones (so sad!), and the new Lord of the Rings series (what did they do to my boy?) highlight this trend. It’s disappointing to see creativity take a backseat in modern media.
