It's always so beautiful when plants naturally attach to the wall; I was screaming inside. But it's for the greater good. Good luck with it, I hope it's not thrips. If you trim that vine and set it against the wall again, the new branch(es) may start climbing again. The brazil grows fast so you'll have it looking like before in no time. This worked with my plain heart-leaf philodendron. Best wishes.

It's always so annoying to see some insects on plants, especially thrips. In my case, soap water and neem oil didn't really help. I used Careo sticks, which is a fertilizer and a pesticide at the same time. But I also check all plants every day and remove the insects from leaves. As adult insects multiply and lay eggs without a partner, I tried to at least minimize their quantity till the pesticide will start working. Hope your plants will be fine.☘️

Vines will grow into and do a lot of damage to walls. I suggest that if you like the look, that you fasten a sheet of plywood or woodboard to the wall, that can easily be replaced. Out of curiosity, if you feel thrips are on that plant, why wouldn't they move to all of the other plants that are touching it, or below it? I know you looked at them, but why not treat them?
@EverythingPlants
@EverythingPlants 3 жыл бұрын
They probably are on those other plants as well. I just received (and made a video coming soon) about predatory mites that I treated all my plants with. I will let those dudes search out the harmful bugs. I am not too worried about it because I feel if it was a thrip then I caught them in the early stages.

I've actually been bitten by them--outdoors--and I guess I was really lucky none of the biters came in with me. When I asked a knowledgeable person I knew why they bit me, she replied "They aren't that bright, probably testing to see if you were a plant!" Sorry about your drywall--I took a dead Virginia creeper vine off a customer's house a few years ago and left similar bits clinging to the stucco--they were super stubborn to get off! Hi there! Wow, beautiful plants and a clear and concise way of explaining useful things. Kudos to you! Maybe someone can help me: On my Pothos Gold I noticed dark (dry) spots on some of the leaves and I think I saw small black insects. I assume that they are thrips. I immediately sprayed a locally available product (apparently rapeseed oil-based, i.e., a botanical oil). I sprayed the pothos apparently infested with thrips and neighboring plants (Monstera and Scindapsus). Will this be enough-or will you recommend that I purchase something (unfortunately) more aggressive. I examined the plants thoroughly and found no other suspicious signs.... I assume then that if it was thrips, the "attack" was very limited. Thank you everybody! C.

I have a question for you if I may: I found a few thrips on my Philodendron Brasil in my frog vivarium. The thrips seem to prefer the Brasil over the Golden Pothos, by the way, as the Golden Pothos didn't have a single bug on it. I was wondering what you would suggest on how to get rid of them, seeing that I cannot use any pesticides, soaps or oil in a vivarium with frogs (White's tree frogs). The setup is bioactive (6-7 months old and established), with coco fiber as substrate, and large colonies of springtails and white tropical isopods as cleanup crew. How in the world can I get rid of the thrips? Do I need to do a full breakdown of the vivarium and sterilize everything? Or would it be enough to remove all plants and leave it bare with only the soil in there until the thrips hopefully die of starvation (due to no living plants)? Do you have any thoughts or advice regarding this? I have searched the internet, youtube and reddit for answers but noone seems to have an actual answer. Until now I have uprooted and disposed of all the plants that I saw had thrips on them. The remaining plants might be attacked now that I have removed the thrips' homes, but I had no other choice. I have bought new plants but I do not dare plant them in the vivarium before I know what to do with this issue. Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated!

Hello! I had to search for this specific predatory bug (because I forgot the name lol) and I think this is probably the only way to keep everything else safe ie the frogs. They are called pirate bugs and search out THRIPS until they are gone. I have never used this specific bug, but I have seen it on KZbin videos and they look very effective against thrips. Here is an article which explains them in a bit more detail. I hope this helps you and keep me posted! greenmethods.com/orius/

@@EverythingPlants Woah, thanks a bunch! And thank you for being so quick to reply. I will have a look at this bug and see if it is possible to use, and if they're available here. I'll keep you posted!

@@EverythingPlants I am actually living across the pond, in the Netherlands! :) (I am originally from Norway) So I need to figure out if these bugs are used and/or allowed in this country. But thanks anyways! If I find out I'll let you know. :)

The Mealy Monsters Are My Pest From Hell Thanks To My Hard-Headed Hoyas!!! The Elephant Ear Fam Gave Them A LOT Of Competition With The Spider Mite Crew That Came With Them. The Spider Mites Are The Definite Losers Now That I'm NOT Growing Any Elephant Ears. I LOVE The Brasils... They're Such Cheery Looking Fellas!!! I DO Plan On Replacing The Ones I Lost... In The Meantime... I Found A Good-Sized Cutting On The Floor Of Lowes And He's Looking Mighty Cheery In A Cheery Red Pot!!!

Thrips I have learned leave eggs in the soil and they’re life cycle is 45 days. Neem oil , insecticidal soap with water didn’t work for me. I have heard really good things about a product called Provanto. I also used Captain Jacks. Let me know any updates.

I have a philodendron that was so beautiful and full it’s the one that looks like neon pothos ….bright lime green and a gift from my brother. I propagated and had a beautiful full baby backup….and I thought to myself I got this 😀 Then this summer the prop just withered away and is now invisible and the mother plant has been declining rapidly. I’m about to chop it up and 🤞the leaves yellowed and it’s almost like the base of the root is falling out of the pot. I kept looking for bugs and I just don’t see anything. Did I overwater? Underwater? IDK I have never seen a thrip or maybe I just don’t know that I did …. Do they hop, fly, crawl??? We burn wood so we get lots of bugs traveling on the wood. I’ve been seeing something flying around and I thought it was a mosquito 🤔 we live in S New England in a wooded area and my bugs don’t seem to mind the cold. I see moths on the outside of my windows all he time. I hope you don’t have thrips again…I hope I don’t either. Maybe a trellis going up the wall would work….Good luck and keep us posted! Thanks

sounds like a fungus gnat, they can invade the soil and eat the roots from what i've seen, have a look at the soil and see, i had them bad this summer and i had to repot all my plants, hoping they don't come back next year
