WoTS pre-release was one of my best. I p1p1 an Ugin and then drafted an Abzan deck with all the removal in it. Went undefeated and left with a sick play mat.

I loved this prerelease environment. As long as you put in ways to deal with the walkers (which were readily available) they weren't a huge problem. Easiest way to think of the uncommon walkers is that they're basically enchantments that can be directly attacked to be removed since they're static abilities and negatives only. Rare walkers had two different abilities (a + and a -) and a static. The mythic walkers had the traditional 3 abilities and a static ability if memory serves

Except Gideon because his static was his normal "I'm a creature with indestructible" thing meaning he could be a creature and use a loyalty ability if memory serves.

I actually enjoyed the walkers. I never went the superfirends ruite, but there was walkers for every deck and I think it was a fun meta to play.. especially after rotation upto when theros dropped. Also the value of the cards isn't all it's about, you pulled some seriously strong cards for playing and that what matters in my book

I didn't, most of the static abilities on planeswalkers are just annoying, especially Narset, ashiok and 3feri, it ruined Standard for me. On the other Hand the Karn Lock was awesome in modern until they banned Mycosynth Lattice and ruined blue tron.

I personally liked the draft and limited environments, it was fun to have just a mess of planeswalkers around, there was more removal for planeswalkers then usual. The standard environment was poor though. I’ve never had an issue with them in draft and limited though.

Playing it limited was bonkers. Sealed was guaranteed 6 Planeswalkers, a draft gave you an opportunity to draft a bunch of Planeswalkers too. You'll notice the uncommon Planeswalkers only ticked down so you'd used them for their ability and then they'd all have passive effects that were powerful too.

This set was crazy for plainswakers but the prerelease was so much fun. And if you read the activation abilities then you might appreciate them instead of looking at the rarities.

Yeah Jeremy, I agree, the set is a bit ridiculous. However, the prerelease was amazing. My lgs had like 300-400 people who attended. The environment was joyous!! Keep up the good work bro

I was hoping you'd at least read most of the rare/mythic to hear your opinion on their effects. During the prerelease, the kit not only included a guarantee foil rare but also a foil planeswalker (uncommon or rare) making it possible to get 2 extra rare or mythic, making the kit more appealing. And if i remember correctly, one of the reasons behind the flood of planeswalker (beside gimmicks) is that in the story, every characters alive banded against Nicol Bolas during the war.

The Prerelease was entertaining because of the insanity the planeswalkers caused, but they destroyed constructed play by being "curse" walkers, or walkers with static effects.

Should make a short video about reading the static abilities of planes-walkers from this set think that would be an interesting reaction. I started in guilds of ravnica with a Ral planes-walker deck, so getting a ton of them seemed pretty neat.

I agree with you about planeswalkers. The first expansion I purchased was Tempest. I didn't play for like 15 years but I saw videos of you crackin open booster boxes and I got the itch to buy some cards from Ahmonkhet expansion a couple years ago. Keep up the great content.

the set is not bad alot of older magic players had a problem with the set as well but soon realized that in the newer sets it is easy to deal with planewalkers there are a few planewalkers that are hard to deal with. and thoses hard to deal with was just in throne of eldrain

BTW that one card was technically a misprint that looks like the original extended art bled through under the name plate. That is therefore an error card, which is rare in this day and age as WoTC uses computer systems to line up and make the cards more or less. SAVE IT!

I liked playing it in draft even though I typically went 1-2 at FNMs. I'm mostly an aggro player though, and even if I switched there were just so many variables in this set.. I did poorly at it, but it was still fun.

I have an intense dislike for planeswalkers as a mechanic. They got added to the game during the years where I wasn't playing and ever since returning they've been nothing but a constant annoyance. Their only saving grace for me was the ability to redirect damage to them and that's not even a thing anymore. I keep hoping we'll get a standard cycle where some event in the lore temporarily strips all planeswalkers of their spark for 2 years and they only get printed as legendary creatures. I'd rather play against turbo-fog and mill decks than super friends.

Open boosters sets in ygioh is easey, just 2 secrets (mythics) for set had value, the others (super, rare, comon, uncom) all garbage at least a weird case when its a ultrasuper short print common.

omg the planewalkers from war completely messed over standard, teferi is worth the most because he ruined everything and took away a fundamental of magic. The booster box you opened was in the middle of a sheet which seemed to be a large issue with this set for filter of the cards got cascaded with the planewalker in every pack. Shame so many repeats

When I heard about this set I was like "cool, lots of Planeswalkers." Bought a couple packs at drop and that was it. Recently opened a War if the Spark Fat Pack (loading on my channel shortly). Not a fan of the set.

I think war of the spark was okay, not a big fan of the set itself. I disliked drafting it, that's for sure. I didn't enjoy drafting eldraine either, but I did actually quite enjoy playing with the eldraine mechanics. I love drafting ikoria though. The mechanics are fine, not super hyped about them, but I don't mind them.

Watching more of this in my daily rotation has the Ikora ad playing quite frequently (though that could just be their marketing push and not the algorithm) and I've come to realise that SJW's have ruined the side buzzcut (stereotypes exist for a reason), as every time I see Vivien I cant help but cringe instinctively. (though the Joan Jett: Bad Reputation soundtrack isn't quite as on the nose as Batwoman's I'm a woman). Have I become to cynical?
