The mega log haulers did not want to get scrapped so they were troublesome and jumped off the tracks. Be safe keep warm.

Looked like a temporary shelter set up on the end of the car on the mainline. These are used when Mig or Tig welding to keep the wind from blowing the shielding gas away. Broken drawbar mount is my guess. Great video, liked it much. Thanks Jason!

Well, that orange mass is the ballast car on the end of the 40 car freight. Seems like these derailments are like a tv soap opera, ya never know whats gonna happen next. The FRA & STB recently shut down a shortline in Oklahoma, not sure why, but the new owner is a railroad in Mississippi, named the "Rock Island", go figure.
@jamessimms4158 ай бұрын
The new Rock Island has been in existence for several years now, HQ’d out of Mississippi. There was a failure to protect the ‘Rock Island’ name by copyright. They even have Bankruptcy Blue & Red engines like the old RI had.

Could be a busted coupler or too much for one engine. I salute you for being out in the brutal cold.

Jason, I'm guess that they are dropping the cars down in Pembine, so that they can return with the engine and attach where the car(s) derailed. That way, they can get a vehicle down there to help put the cars back on the track without all of the stuff in the way. I was going to say, perfect time to have a drone, but with the winds, not so perfect time.
@paulsmith53988 ай бұрын
Just curious, with ELS being single track, how are they gonna get an engine around the derailment to pull the remaining cars backwards🤔❓

I look down the tracks in some areas and can't believe they'd even attempt to run a train on 'em .. a loaded train at that. They'll spend time and labor re-railing the cars, but won't fix the track ??? What a way to run a railroad .. baffling.

But seriously, the E&LS has got to maintain its tracks better. They can get plain rock ballast instead of granite. They can get secondhand welded rail and recycled wood ties. E&LS speed is also slow enough that if they would use SD38-2s instead of SD40-2s it wouldn’t make a difference in performance and would rid them of having to maintain turbochargers.
@paulsmith53988 ай бұрын
@@armandoperez7967 they would also lose 1,000 hp per unit, SD-38-2s only put out 2,000 hp, while the SD-40-2s give 3,000 hp per unit. It would take 3 SD-38-2s, where only 2 SD-40-2s would be needed for the required 6,000 hp. ELS doesnt go fast enough in Michigan to blow a turbo anyway, and youre right about the track in very poor condition, but the turbo-equipped engines are more fuel efficient too.

This is where you do have to really be careful on the roadways. The fine Airborne snow blows on to The Salted mush which after while gets cold and freezes up you don't see it under the loose snow on top. Time to dust off the Everly Brothers album problems problems all day long

Look like wisconsin has better salt than michigan
@blackhawks81H7 ай бұрын
Where I live in Michigan they don't salt at all other than the freeway. Sand at intersections to get started/stopped and then they bring out a grader and just scrape the snow down so it's flat/relatively smooth. Pretty much dont see pavement at all for months during a normal winter.

After the derailments they have had recently. Looks like they need to do a lot of track work.

But they won’t do it unless the Feds tell them to.
@garydreamweaver8 ай бұрын
My educated guess, is that they don’t have enough power, to pull that much weight, on icy tracks. It could have been a cracked air hose. Who knows with this company? Nothing serious.
