Etta Jones one the most overlooked and underated jazz singers. She had great phrasing and timing.

January 1961, a 10 year old kid was up late, out in the shop, listening to 'Meisterbrow Showcase Theater' clear channel, I heard Etta, i called from Iowa to Chicago, I wanted to talk to the DJ, they said 'no problem'. I said, I want to hear more of Etta Jones, he said , me too, he played the whole album side.

Back in 2000 my sister and I went to NY for a long weekend, ( we live in uk) and we went to Greenwich Village and saw both Etta and Huston play in a tiny Jazz place. It was my first time to hear both and they blew me away. After the show they came and spoke to me and my sister. We felt so good walking out from there. They truly made our weekend. Simply Fab both of them and yes I agree very underrated both of them.

I truly believe Etta Jones is THE most underrated Jazz singer. Her vocals are superb. Sarah Vaughan remains my top choice but if I were thrown on an island with an ipod consisting only of Etta Jones, I''d take the long vacation in stride.

The most underrated artist of any genre. There are a lot of hidden, incredibly talented artists out there who didn’t make it bigger for whatever reason, but I personally think this lady tops the list.

Wonderful jazz vocalist....she places the lyrics against the rhythm line in just the right place and make the song hers.

I saw Eta two times in Jamaica at the Ocho Rios jazz Festival and she won my heart. She sang like she alone could, her style, her presence was like no one else that I can remember. I can't forget talking to her after the show, that was extra extra special.

If she and Houston didn't get their due in the heyday of Jazz vocalists, they did have a hella, hella run in the 80's-90's. Perhaps delayed appreciation is a better term. They were pretty big in the last decade-plus they performed together. Deserved kudos in their golden years....

I Love Ms. Jones' rendition of this tune. After I heard her rendition of "If I Had You" I was hooked. I haven't heard anyone sing that song quite like her. Unforgettable Lady with an Unforgettable Voice.

This is a favorite of mine that I also used to perform. Etta sings it with her remarkable style that no one could imitate! She and Houston Person worked together for about 30 years, that's why they are so good together. And Stan Hope on the piano, the rest of her group -- just fabulous, which comes from performing together for so long.!

I also had the privilege of hearing Etta Jones and Houston Person in Seattle many years ago at Italian supper club near the University if Washington. I invited them to my table for a drink. It was awesome . I wish someone would post "Please Mr. person."

I'm back to hear Etta Jones, a favorite, sing this song again, it reminds me of a train-trip I took under the same circumstances years ago, and hearing it again is a painful memory of that day but I also sang it performing so I try to remember that happy time instead!

She shouldn't have had to stand in anyone's shadow. She had many of the best qualities of her contemporaries as well as her own distinct style, and yet never really broke through. It's a real shame.

Etta Jones was the closest to Billie Holiday of the dozens of pretenders. In fact, on the day of her death in Oct. 2001 her last recording was released, on which she "channels" Lady Day on "Fine and Mellow." Sacred ground, and only Etta has any business standing on it.

The most underrated great jazz singer, despite a recorded career that was 1944-2001 (October, when she released a Billie Holiday tribute album the day of Etta's death). In the 40s she was with Bud Johnson, in the 50s and 60s it was Oliver Nelson and Jug (her best period), then in the 70s to the end, Houston Person. I caught her toward the end at Chicago's Jazz Showcase--not a good P.A. for vocalists.

Just wanna add, besides what I said below, that this is a pretty boring Jazz standard...I mean, it doesn't have a lotta dynamism to the tune itself...yet Etta made it sound fabulous....they really cooked on it ! That is the sign of a real creative talent !
