I was PANICKED that I was pregnant with twins! Interesting fact: Esme was actually a twin and at the 6 week ultrasound we found out there was an empty (unviable) sack and there was Esme!
I've been saying I want to have 3-4 kids and I thought the decision was being made for me.

Okay, so I will preface this by saying that I am not superstitious at all! However, when I first found out I was pregnant my husband and I were making breakfast and we cracked two eggs in a pan and BOTH had double yolks!!!!!! Twins also run in my husbands family, so then of course I couldn’t stop thinking about the possibility of having twins…until my first ultrasound when they assured me that there was just one lil bean in there! 😅 I took a picture of the eggs in the pan to remind me of that little panic attack. 😂

Lol if they run in your husband's family it doesn't matter haha. It has to run in your family because as the woman you'd have to be genetically more likely to release 2 eggs. Nothing the sperm does can make twins if there's only 1 egg.

@@bleechrcreechrrI mean if one egg was fertilised with one sperm, and then the fertilised egg split in two.. you can end up with identical twins. So it’s not always about producing 2 eggs 😅

@qpixelthree80 that would be identical twins and those are not genetic. Everyone has the same chance of having them. Fraternal twins are the only kind that can be genetic

I have identical twins. I had IVF treatment. I got pregnant at 37. I waited 12 days to take my pregnant test, and the home test result was so instant. Week later I had bleeding that prompted going to the ER to make sure I wasn't having a miscarriage, then to my IVF clinic, which was where I found out I was having twins. It was a shock, and I was sort of in denial for a long time, because it changed a lot for me as a single parent. They are so special and I'm so glad I have two.

Twin mama here ! They are 12 weeks and I have a nearly 2 year old .. YES THATS 3 UNDER 2. I am absolutely exhausted. Things true for me- 1. I was breastfeeding when I got pregnant with them 2. I am 33 3. There are twins in the family Normal ovulation time.. 14 days ish and I took early tests because we were Ttc but nothing came up until I was a week late on my period!! I had absolutely zero morning sickness which is weird. No clue it was twins until my 12 week ultrasound (I’m in the UK) I was absolutely shocked and just sobbed..! We also thought they were fraternal twins through the pregnancy because they had their own placentas and sacs but they are sooo alike they MUST be identical which apparently there was a 33% chance of that.. the egg must have split within 72 hours of conception. The third trimester was absolutely BRUTAL with twins and they were born at 36 weeks. I am so ridiculously proud to breastfeed them both and still my toddler a couple times a day. (Not night for him) We are still in the absolute trenches and it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done but they are so amazing too! You’ll be wonderful with 3 babies Shayla 😊

I always thought I would have twins - we have 11 sets in my family in the last 120 years, including my dad (and it skips a generation) my last serious boyfriend was a twin, my husband’s mum is a twin, I thought for sure it was going to be me. Then my sister had the twins! I was super envious until I had my baby, and then I was so glad it wasn’t me because how in the heck do you keep your sanity with two babies? Much love to all the multiple-mums out there, you are AMAZING ❤

I am an identical twin (#3 & 4 in my family) my mom was 35 and twins (identical & fraternal) run in my family. She experienced terrible nausea and dry heaving throughout most of the pregnancy, and didn’t have morning sickness with my first two siblings 😅

I have three-month-old fraternal twin girls! No twins of any kind in either of our families, not pregnant with twins before, but it was my second pregnancy. I was breast-feeding my first a little bit, and didn’t have a late ovulation, but we did fly, which has messed a little bit with timing of things in the past. I am a tall and was 26 years old and wasn’t really working out at the time. Didn’t take a test early, but was pretty darn sure I had felt implantation…. twice once I looked back on it 😅 I was extremely nauseous, but had no idea it was twins as I was nauseous most of my pregnancy with my first and thought nothing of the extra nausea with the twins. Complete surprise and it has been a wild ride from the very beginning! After we found out, my mom told us that she had told her prayer group to pray that I would have twins so I wouldn’t have to have more pregnancies, she thought it would be easier like a 2 for 1 🫠🫠🫠

Wow twins are fascinating. I remember learning about twins as a small child and asking my mom so many questions in awe I've just always thought that twins were so fascinating and amazing. So excited for you!

I'm a twin mom. We were trying for baby number 5 and ended up with babies 5 and 6. Twins specifically fraternal twins run in my family heavily. So I always knew that there was a possibility of twins, but after baby number 4 I never thought we would have twins, boy was I wrong. 😅 I am plus size, and was over 30 when I got pregnant with my twins, (they are 18 months now). I also had a super early pregnancy test. We had been trying for a while so I was taking a lot of tests. I was about 2 and 1/2 weeks post menstrual cycle and was feeling really sick so I took a COVID test and a pregnancy test. The COVID test was negative and I had a fairly dark positive line on the pregnancy test. I didn't actually find out that I was pregnant with twins until I was 10 weeks because that was the first time I actually went and saw my midwives. All of my pregnancy symptoms were extremely heightened due to the increase of hormones. Another thing that can increase your chances of twins that a lot of people don't know or don't talk about is your birth control and specifically going off of it. If you have something like the implant or an IUD and you go off of that, it can cause hyper ovulation for the first few ovulation cycles.

Im currently 27 weeks pregnant with spontaneous fraternal twins! The things from your list that applied for me was above average height, early positive test and subsequent pregnancy! No twins in my family. But, before finding out at my first ultrasound (8 weeks) that it was twins, I had definitive suspicions. I just had that nagging feeling in my gut and immediately had a rush of hormones very early on in comparison to my first pregnancy. Lived for going to blockbuster to rent Mary Kate and Ashley on VHS and wouldn't be a day home sick from school without Jerry or Maury😂😂😂💗

Second pregnancy, over 30 (31) and breastfeeding. But it’s still rare. I know families with 10 kids and there are no multiples lol. Im kind of nervous about having twins again but part of me thinks it would be fun. Then i remind myself how hard the pregnancy was. It’s so easy to forget!

How do you know if someone is a twin mom? They'll tell you in the early part of a conversation. 😂 Anyway.. Mom to 20mo identical (mono-di) twin boys here. Three applied to me - 2nd pregnancy after loss 8yrs prior, fraternal twins run in the family (not that it mattered in my case), and pregnant at age 31. I didn't test early but assume it would show positive with the immediate onset of symptoms. *8 week ultrasound from severe hypermesis showed ONE baby via vaginal ultrasound only. The other hid until 12 weeks. Thought it was a joke.* Life is crazy but wouldn't have it any other way. These are our first children btw.

I also was obsesssssed with Mary-Kate and Ashley as a kid. And my first kiddos are fraternal twin girls! None of these were true for me except I did have an early positive pregnancy test.

Just had (very much a surprise) fraternal twins 6 months ago and the only risk factor I have is that I'm super tall. Other than that I was SHOCKED when I saw that ultrasound.

I am the mom of 13mo old fraternal twins. I do have twins in my family. This was my first pregnancy. I did ovulate late. I am 26, short, with a normal BMI. We did IUI so we were tracking my HCG super closely super early into my pregnancy and it was really high and mire than doubled in two days, so thats how I knew.

My twin sister just gave birth to fraternal twins. From your list - she’s a fraternal twin, she’s over 30, it’s a subsequent pregnancy, she had a very early positive and early nausea, she also had implantation bleeding which apparently is another sign of twins. She was also SURE she was having twins and boom there they were, two heart beats on the monitor flickering away ❤❤ Her husband almost fell off his chair 😂

My extended family has two sets of identical twins! One set is like 10, and one is a year older than me, 31. The older ones are second cousins, so I don’t see them often enough to tell them apart 😂. They got married at similar times, and have similar age kids… so their kids are genetically half siblings which is crazy.

I have fraternal twins and I had none of them. It was my first pregnancy. The only thing I can tell, when I took the test, at 5/6 weeks, it was IMMEDIATELY positive 😮

Yup I have ALL of the “risk” factors (though I have a high bmi, not tall) and my grandma had THREE SETS of paternal boy/girl twins, no singletons 😨 when I was pregnant with my first pregnancy I was sure I was going to have twins, but he only ended up being one (although I do wonder if it started off as 2 and only one made it because the line stalled at one point). Now I’m trying to have a second pregnancy and the odds are even higher now 😱 I seriously don’t know how I’d manage

I had fraternal (di/di) twins who are now almost two years old. It was my first (and only) pregnancy at 31 years old. We had to do multiple rounds IUI with fertility medications to get pregnant, so that absolutely affected our chance of multiples. I am not tall and was low end of ‘normal’ BMI when we finally got pregnant. Didn’t know until our first ultrasound. However, I did develop significant nausea/vomiting with *ridiculous* food and smell aversions to literally everything (even lettuce and water) by 5 weeks which led to hyperemesis through the entire pregnancy. All the darn hormones from two different placentas really did me dirty. So not a symptoms specific to twins (and I know plenty of twin moms who barely get nausea) but it definitely was a major early sign in my case! No family history of twins, but the fertility meds really affected when and how many follicles I ovulated.

I conceived my first pregnancy a few weeks before my 32nd birthday. I’m about six feet tall and higher BMI. Took a pregnancy test on a whim on Day 24 of my cycle which showed a faint line and by Day 26 it was a strong positive. I was cracking jokes with my husband that it could be twins and also thought that having twins would be cool. Found out at exactly 7 weeks pregnant I was having Di/Di twins. Only true genetic twins I could trace were my paternal grandmother’s fraternal siblings. All other twins in the family are distance cousins. I will say my pregnancy was a breeze so now that we are wanting to try again soon I honestly wouldn’t mind if we landed another set.

I’m currently 5 weeks pregnant with my second and I’m panicking that there are 2 in there lol my ultrasound isn’t until March 15 so I’m just sitting with this feeling 😅 fraternal twins do not run in my family. We actually don’t have any at all so I’m reminding myself of that

When you had a late ovulation did your last menstrual cycle match your first ultrasound sound gestation? I went for my first dr appt thinking I was 8 weeks based off my last period but upon the ultrasound I was only measuring 6 weeks and 1 day. This will be my 4th baby and I’ve never had this happen before.

I’ve had beta hgc tests with all my pregnancies. This last one was double the numbers I had with my girls and in 48hrs they went from like 50 to well over 200. I was convinced it was twins…. Nope just a boy vrs my girls 😂

Wow that’s so surprising because I always thought women tend to have more morning sickness with girls, and as hgc is supposed to be a reason for morning sickness, I would have thought there would be a higher number with girl babies!

The older you are the harder it is to get pregnant but if you do get pregnant the likelihood of twins increases. My husband says this is perverse and I agree.

I didn’t know that! But I heard it from 2 friends who got pregnant at 40 years old for the first time and both got pregnant with twins 😯

Yeah it’s because the woman’s body releases more eggs at once as she ages, I remember hearing it described as a “going out of business sale” 🫠. But they being said, if one starts having kids after 40, it might be nice to have twins. Won’t need to go through all tiredness a second time round of you don’t want to, and your kids get a sibling 😅

@@qpixelthree80 twin pregnancies seem harder and riskier. When I was pregnant at 40 I initially hoped that it would be twins (a boy and a girl) to get “more bang for my buck” but wow, the more I learned the more thankful I was for the singleton pregnancy.
