From NW PA here and I'm 13 months post proctocolectomy and still dealing with my wound as well. I am currently going to a wound clinic every other week to monitor and stay on top of the healing of it. As of right now i am using calmoseptine lotion for part of the wound and silver alginate for another part. The biggest thing that helped me start to recover faster was my diet. I eat a LOT of protien to help the muscle to fill in the wound and i had to cut out sugar and reduce carbs to lower my blood sugar. Seems that my body was struggling to produce insulin with all the stress my body has been through. I guess what I really want to say is you are a strong person and dont let these little hiccups get you down. You got this!

They sent me for some iron infusions and it healed in a few months. If you haven't already, get some blood work done. Keep your head up. I hope it heals soon

I'm 2.5 yrs since my surgery. Drainage continued over a year, to different degrees. I never looked at wound, but pretty much went around with rolled up paper towels or depends on. I don't the foul smell and still soak in tub. It was better living like that than before UC hit. Hang in there one step forward,,sometimes 2 back,,but you will get better. Over a year before I could ride a bike comfortable again.

I had a surgical wound that wouldn't close for MONTHS. Other parts of the incision healed fine, but there was this one trouble area that sounds a lot like what you are describing. Given mine was likely easier to care for as it was on my chest, but I also used medical honey among tons of other stuff. Sometimes it would just open back up regardless. It would seem closed for a few days sometimes and then just act up again. I know you probably don't need someone else to tell you that healing is frustratingly nonlinear, but. Just know it's gonna clear up. Stay vigilant. You've got this.

This wound healing process sounds like quite a rollercoaster of ups and downs - so hard to deal with the backsliding after getting your hopes up for real, permanent progress. But you know what you want and are doing what you need to do to get there - allow yourself grace to feel sad/frustrated when the bad days happen. Naps, fleece, and heating pads are great comforts. 😊 Thanks for showing what has helped with your wound care - I've heard of both but didn't know specifics on types of products so your discussion was very helpful. Your tank is awesome! Love that it's self-sustaining, and the first one I've seen 'in person' of that type. It'll be fun to see what other species you add to the tank. There are lots of cool less-agressive community fish vs the ones that tear each other up. The shrimp having a bi-weekly confab was pretty funny. All the best to you and Merry Christmas.🎇❄⛄🎄

Maggie dear, hang in there. Post surgical wounds can be infuriatingly difficult to heal. Sending you positive healing vibes and prayers for better health. I know you are a nurse but have you sought out a wound care specialist? They may be able to help you heal with a different approach. The silver sept and honey are body friendly. Sometimes fungus or yeasts can be present and I've seen miconazole powder used to help persistent wounds heal. Powder to absorb moisture. Just a thought. You are so active and sweet we want to see you well soon.

💯% unscientific suggestion: sopa de res (beef soup) made with love, lol! No, not to put on your wound! To eat while it snows outside. There's something about homemade soup that restores the body and soul. It doesn't have to be beef, it could be chicken, too, or it could be vegetarian. In fact, lots of veggies are key so a lovely minestrone with vegetables and beans would work. The other great healer is SLEEP. Our bodies do most of our healing as we sleep so sleep has to be one of our top priorities, if not THE top priority. I totally get your frustration, your doing all the right things to care for your wound. Please remember to also be patient with your body. I think I remember you mentioning in one of your videos that the wound can take a year to a year and a half to fully heal (is that true? Or did my brain make it up?!) That's a frustrating and disappointing amount of time but probably normal. Keep doing what you're doing, you're on the right track. P.S. Your house is so cute! And you and your husband are adorable.

I ended up with using a wound vac. twice actually. I used it for 6 months..Then ended up with a real bad tunnel I think they called it, had another obstruction, and a very bad infection. I remember one of the antibiotics being Vancomycin..can’t remember the other, I just remember they had to make sure nobody was allowed in the room and they wore yellow everything it seemed. All I know is the meds kicked my infections to the curb! Lol I just hate that you have been dealing with this for so long to!! I’m sorry you are going through this. It’s not the same as your experience, but I had a fistula with an open wound on my stomach for a year I needed a nurse to clean and pack and measure every two days that wouldn’t heal and close up with biologics and meds. Until I finally decided to surgically have it removed. I still have PTSD from that experience and had depression during it so I know it’s a very difficult time to get through. I hope they can find a way for you to get better.

Please check into a bidet that attaches to your stool. Every time you go to the bathroom the wound gets cleaned. The stool rim is warm to sit on, once the wound is cleaned there is a dryer setting (optional) of which I opted for, that dries the wound. The key here is that, every time you go to the bathroom, the wound gets cleaned and dried. I wore a pad all the time for the drainage. I went through abscesses, etc.. My daughter purchases the bidet system and her husband installed it for me. I suffered with wound drainage for a couple of years if not longer. I did Sits baths and would wash the wound with the shower nozzle every time I showered and still dealt with the drainage. Once the bidet was installed on my stool, within a few “months ” the wound had healed. I thought yay, no more pads! Since now I deal with urinary incontinence, I still wear pads. But it is no big deal as I am no longer dealing with the wound drainage. Bless your heart. I can relate with what you are going through. I am 71 and have been living with Crohns since my early 20’s. I have a colostomy which was created almost 30 years ago of which I am so thankful for. I had the same surgery you did only I still have a little over a foot of colon. I to have had the anus and rectum removed. All of this has improved the quality of life for me. Best of luck to you and Congratulations to you an Zac!💞😆

Maggie, use natural honey. You can fill the wounds with honey mixed with povidone iodine, 2/3-1/3 twice daily using a syringe (no needle, of course!) . It really works in difficult wounds (am a physician). Hope it helps.
@pinkmonkeybird26444 жыл бұрын
It’s a very long, very frustrating, and oftentimes very lonely road with this kind of wound, and it can really mess with your head. Just try to keep it all in perspective - that’s how I cope, at least. You aren’t in constant pain, you aren’t likely to get worse any time soon, you have access to excellent health care, you aren’t worried about where your next meal is coming from, nor are you about to be homeless, alone, or jobless. It’s important to allow ourselves a bit of time to feel upset, angry, or depressed, but then we have to put all those feelings back into a box and continue our lives. I’ve had multiple flap surgeries, osteomyelitis multiple times, multiple rounds of IV antibiotics that gave me some scary side effects such as Parkinson’s-like tremors that were neurotoxicity from ceftriaxone and kidney damage from vancomycin, and I even ended up with a colostomy because of tissue damage from sepsis. I’m still not done. I have spinal rods, plates, and pedicle screws from C7-L5, and the rods broke and came through my skin, causing the domino effect of infection, tissue damage, and incomplete wound healing. It’s been more than two years, and I’m not done yet. I still have exposed vertebral and grafted bone, and no matter what I do, what kind of dressing I use, or how carefully I position myself, I cannot get the last cm to heal. It’s very frustrating, but like you, I’m not interested in my surgery at the moment. I’ll wait until the Covid vaccine is in widespread use in the community, and I’ll enjoy staying away from doctors and hospitals a little while longer. My only advice is pretty much the same as everyone else who has had stubborn wounds will give you: eat as much protein you can, ease up on the sugar and carbs, faithfully change your dressings, get adequate sleep, and keep your mind occupied and positive. Easy to say, but it can be very hard to do long term.
