Pretty much proves that most, if not all of the rotary engine issues that got popularized were mechanic skill issues. Which is... very common an issue whenever the engines aren't dirt basic. Most mechanics have zero education and quite a few of those are proud of it. No wonder these engines got denied by such a problem. Many other cars had the same thing unfairly happen to them.

To be fair it is ALSO robs skill and The rotor communities collective knowledge. These motorns are far from stock. All the suppoting mods and oiling system changes help alot. That being said you arent wrong about most mechanics.

It's so true The average mechanic is just an average person with an average education. I learned how to work on motors when I was a small child. It came easy to me I was rebuilding carburetors when I was 12 years old. Now that I'm an adult the internal combustion engine is super basic. I got into computers that became my career and then I realized it's basically the same thing parts is parts.

I don't know how much that oil pressure regulator costs or if it needs to be serviced or not but it may be cheaper to weld the nut than to have it it fail again given the application.

You know I was watching Hoonicorn VS the world for nostalgia sake and realized in the race where your car went up vs the hoonicorn , that on launch your two step sounded like a dog barking , so that reminded me that you are the rotary guy so I thought of the phrase “The dahms are barking”

I have that same regulated sitting in my garage for my next motor setup. Waiting to get the handling dialed in on the FC. I think I will red loctite the theards and throw a few tacks welds on it.

With the technology of heat transferring liquid. Is it possible to drill, fill with liquid sodium, plug, then see if the rotor will not get so hot and keep from failing? You show in this video the rotor was so hot that the metal failed at the lobe due to heat. Drill 6 holes, one on each side of the lobe, fill with a liquid that will heat transfer, then plug just like a hollow sodium filled valve in a pushrod engine. If it could work, I bet you’d be the first to try it. 😮

Throw away red loctite & get some Orange locktite its same as red but can be removed with high heat session. I use my old soldering iron on the head of bolts with it & it comes back off.

In my experience, very few cars/engines actually deserve the bad reputations they get. But it's much easier to place blame on something that can't speak for itself than to take accountability for one's own actions (or inaction). The average person knows next to nothing about the car they 100% depend on every single day. The average car enthusiast isn't much better.

That regulator could have holes drilled into the head and be safety wired with .032" stainless wire. I wouldn't trust just loctite

It's not about the pressure, it's about the flow. Same with turbos. But this is just a no-brainer reminder that came to mind instantly at the start of the video so it doesn't have much to do with the video itself (or so I am guessing, at about 30 seconds in).

Robert, do I have proof that those holes for the spark plugs are larger than they need to be? As you turned that three flywheel, you heard the sucking sound. That's proof. Whenever each of those apex seals are in line with those holes, the air transfers to the other chamber, equalizing the two of them. That's the sound of you're hearing those holes need to be slots instead of those large holes around the sides of the inside and outside of the electrodes.
