They made Roman invasion of England extremely expensive and unrewarding. Much like the Russians typically use the winter against enemies, England's traditionally used rain and storms to their advantage. Mud and storms are our best friends. Guard-Dude was risking an international incident, which is why he backed down so quickly, but he had no choice but to draw on Spanish Ambassador-Guy no matter how outnumbered he was by the Spanish guards. This is the scene I remember most out of this movie. Love Cate Blachett's portrayal of Queen Elizabeth I.

Great scene. Unfortunately, the rest of the movie is hampered with poor editing and direction. The first Elizabeth movie is a far superior movie than Golden Age.
@cockneybuddhist47138 жыл бұрын
+PrinceofMacedon Yes, and I think some inaccuracies as well. They showed a guy being hung using the trap door method, but that wasn't invented until the late 1800's. Also, hardly a mention of Sir Francis Drake. The film seemed to concentrate more on Sir Walter Raleigh

oh my word. A great piece of acting about something that happened more than 400 years ago, and some commentators would rather talk about the history to vilify each other than the skill of the actress the clip is celebrating. How much better to only look back 200 years and see that Britain and Spain fought together to defeat Napolean!

I am captivated by how graceful people were in this era. How the women carried themselves and how the men, even to enemies, bow before they leave. Sadly we do not have this anymore. This time frame contained deep beauty.
@23561avatar8 жыл бұрын
Well, these are people from the highest level of society and they have been taught 'noble' etiquette from the day they were born. I wouldn't assume this is how the average person behaved.
@nadiyakaralash78788 жыл бұрын
SirPilkington Yes I think it is safe to say the behavior between the richest and the poorest was visibly different but according to what we know of the these times (even the way they dressed shows it) that grace and elegance was within the culture as normal and expected.
@23561avatar8 жыл бұрын
Nadiya Karalash You mean grace and elegance were also valued more in the lower classes than is the case today?
@codybell68828 жыл бұрын
It was alot less graceful than the movies depict. Women were still treated not much better than cattle. young girls forced to marry, in many cases, older men... in order to increase the rank of their family. That being said... only a select few in society could live this "graceful" life while the lower classes suffer... and are treated very poorly because they are not "highborn". This was also an era where the church was very corrupt. They committed a massive amount of atrocities... and ruled through terror. yes this period was very beautiful. But very... very deeply flawed. Basic human rights and freedoms were virtually non existent.

In the end her hurricane did strip Spain bare since 3 of their armadas got broken up by storms basically bankrupting Spain and causing its decline.
@electricwhiteboy3 жыл бұрын
Spain failed from within because it was taking so much gold from South America it destroyed the Spanish economy, then there was years of decline through the Habsburg's inbreeding. Elizabeth's invasion of Spain stalled pathetically on the north west coast and was barely effected Spain. It was far from conflict with Elizabeth or any attempted invasion of England that caused Spain's demise.

Right after the Spanish aramada was sunk, the English send an even bigger armada to Spain and it was sunk by the Spanish, and the peace treaty of the war was very favorable to Spain
@B8ct783 жыл бұрын
@@jonlerones1610 I’ll start on your dumbest point. The war was undeclared so you what you’re saying is complete stupidity. Next on, the English didn’t send a bigger armada (they had fewer ships, just more soldiers because they didn’t have a place to hold troops like the Spanish did in the Netherlands) and not only that but the Spanish sent 2 more armadas after the 2nd one (all of which failed) which actually bankrupted Spain due to their giant size. Read.

This was a brave move for Elizabeth to make. I always kind of considered this moment in history, the equivalent of what the founding fathers first felt when they sent off the declaration of independence. At this time, Spain was the most powerful empire in the world.
