My retirement goal. That and seeing the 'Ancestral town named after my family.' This is a great concept for a 'Viewer getaway' type of event where a bunch of your viewers could have a week or ten day getaway where a lot of us could go together, bond and have a great time losing golf balls all over the Emerald Isle. Hopefully you will continue to have this kind of thing in the future because I would be very interested. I am burning too much vacation time on other things next year but would love to try something like this maybe in 2024. If you do Ireland again and I get enough lead time to get the time off I will be excited to do this maybe in 2024. It looks like an awesome trip. I might be bugging you in the future about ideas of where to go when I do my retirement tour of Ireland. That and Scotland are on my short list of places to go.

Fortunately in the sport of Golf, here on the Island of Ireland, we consider Ireland as one as golf comes under the wings of The Golfing Union of Ireland. After you’ve enjoyed those magnificent courses in the SW, on your next trip, try from Galway along the Wild Atlantic Way and continue northwards the whole way as far as Newcastle, where you’ll find Royal County Down ( considered by many to be World No 1) also along that journey you will have passed , Murvagh, Rossnowlagh,Narin/Portnoo, Ballyliffen, Castlerock, Portstewart, Royal Portrush. ( The Open venue for 2025) and many many more. Go raibh maith agat

My wife’s brother married a girl from Dublin, and we spent 14 days there in 2003. My sister in law’s uncle, Father John, performed the wedding ceremony and was an avid golfer. His home course was Port Marnock and after we had tossed back a few following the wedding, he literally challenged me to come play a round with him. Our family itinerary was already set, and with three young kids it just wasn’t possible…I still hate that I missed that opportunity. I’m going to try to make your trip, Gabe….as soon as the missus wakes up, I’m starting in on her. Great video.

@LetsPlayThru2 жыл бұрын
Nice. Yes the guys who organized the tour drove us. But you can book Tours with them where they set it up and you drive yourself. I will say, driving in Ireland is a little harder than most places. Roads are very narrow and then there’s the whole left side of the road thing. You can get used to it, but challenging for sure.

@@LetsPlayThru The first time I drove in Ireland, it was tricky at first, because I was driving a manual and the gearshift was, of course, on my left. Then I almost immediately turned the wrong way into a roundabout! Luckily no one was coming. Gabe's right, though...when you get into the countryside it gets very narrow and twisty, but totally doable. And it's the most gorgeous country. You feel like you're in a movie sometimes, because you can't believe it's real.

Ballybunion is ranked No. 1 in many lists but it’s far from clear cut. It has a sort of mythical status in the USA thanks to Tom Watson’s fandom of it but amongst Irish golfers it’s regarded as one of the best but not far and away the best. Lahinch, Waterville Tralee, Ballyliffen, the European Club, Portmarnock, County Sligo, Carne etc. are all regarded on a similar level. And golf is an all ireland sport so Portrush, Royal County Down etc. are all up for consideration as well and are in the same argument as best course in Ireland. Not bashing Ballybunion. Just putting it out there that it’s “amongst the best” rather than clearly “the best”.
@sausagembape6772 ай бұрын
Ballybunnion is totally overrated, mostly by the Americans who pay the crazy fees for all these courses

The courses in this video are stunning and for someone who both owns a holiday home in Kerry and is a keen golfer, they are a gems. However, due to Americans coming over in the summer and paying stupid amounts of money to play these courses, the average Joe has no chance of justifying the expense of the green fees these places charge. To play these courses (Tralee and Ballybunion) are out of reach for most people except the elite, where money is no object.

Honestly why do Americans come to Ireland and pay big prices for courses that the Irish golfers themselves don't bother with? Avoid the marquee courses and enjoy the gems around the country that don't cost an arm and a leg. Avoid the over priced course you have mentioned in your video. With close to almost 400 courses on the Island of Ireland, catch the gems not the over priced tourist traps.
