Hello everyone, in this video I discuss the history, discvoery, and facts about the black hole/quasar ton618. I show the telescope I used to capture it and the image I took. This video is more focused on the facts and history of the quasar rather than the capture process, since it is just a dot I find this to be more interesting.

Thanks Bray for sharing your time and using the wonderful scopes you have access to, this give us far more interest in our own imaging while understanding the universe more and more each time. Damien

The distance given by wikipedia is 10.4 billion light years. What I understand is due to the expansion of the universe the quasar "ton 618" would now be at a distance of 18.2 billion light years. So what is mentioned in Wikipedia is the timing of the light emission from the quasar, right?
@gianlucabelgrado3624
@gianlucabelgrado3624 Жыл бұрын
yes, the distance it currently appears is 10.8 billion light years, but excluding the speed of light lag and due to the It is partly wrong to say that he photographed an object 18 billion years ago expansion of the universe, it is now 18 billion light years

It's around 90 or it's actually 20 billion because we may be wrong and Ton 618 breaks our view of how black holes work.

Maths describes everything even telling a mass of a glowing dot like ton 618 formulas exists we just need the values which gets lower and higher thus you hear ton 618 mass to be 40 billion solar mass 66 billion solar mass 20 billion solar mass etc but the best fit for the observation and most accurate is 40.9 billion solar mass

I am a little confused.......do you know what is the designation of that galaxy near to Ton 618? The coordinates I get off of the internet for Ton 618 (RA 12h 28m 25s / Dec +31o 28` 38"), when plugged into Stellarium, do not show that nearby galaxy. Either Stellarium is incomplete, or the coordinates are wrong, or that galaxy is too distant to be listed in Stellarium....

I believe ton 618 is thought to actually be made from means other than collapsing stars. Its origin is primordial black holes colliding during the beginning of the universe. Since then galactic collisions and all the time swallowing stars and other black holes has made it grow to this size.

ton 618 isnt special. This is a problem with all supermassive blackholes. There are numerous hypotheses though, for example, that they formed through the collapse of quasi-stars

Light year is a measurement of distance not time. It’s distance is 20 billion light year but this is due to space expanding faster than the speed of light. This doesn’t mean that ton 618 is older than the universe though.

I'm curious about luminousity ton 618 it is said 140 trillion Times our sun. So i imagine what distance how bright ton 618 as we see the sun on earth. So my estimates is if distance sun to earth is 8,3 minutes light years So for 618 tons to be as bright as the sun to Earth, it needs a distance of 650,8 billion light years.its not make sense, and ton 618 distance Is 18,2 billion light year . And we see ton 618 with teleskop as Tiny little dot, It Is not make sense
