Word is, other parts of the country have massive amounts of unsold Disney junk, so I took a trip to see it and what I found is surprising.

I laugh at collectors who think they’ll be able to “retire” on their collection/collections that they’ll never sell 😂😂😂. I’ve been collecting since 1993 and i’m under no illusion that i’ll be a millionaire when i’m 70 and all that other nonsense. I collect because it’s fun, enjoyable and it tickles that nostalgia itch. Nothing more nothing less. I’ve told my wife and daughter that when i die to simply donate by stuff to charity OR have a big bonfire and that’ll be the end of it. At it stands now i’m 50, retired and living a comfortable life mortgage free and zero debt. I don’t need toys to “retire” on.

Your comment is striking to me for some reason. It definitely shouldn't stand out this much, that is to say, the axiomatic truth. It's weird to know, not think, that no one will want these and they will jump into the trash. I don't know children outside of having been on but I know trends. "Kids these days" don't want to "play" with stuff because the kid up the street got an iPhone WhatEvEr for Christmas and he's rubbing it in. Collectors? Honestly, outside of an actual "collection" I don't think many collectors would want this. The action figures from the sequel trilogy devalue action figures from the prior films the same way printing dollars makes your dollar less than a dollar, realistically speaking. Maybe I'm being foolish overlooking collectors but I also think that if a collector wanted it, they'd have it and be disappointed already. General holdover made me realize that "we" need to curb bullshit production just as much as "we" need to recycle. Thanks a lot, china.

@@AntifaareFascists-zv6xk No it is that collectors have standards and they only want the real thing or something close to it and also collectors do not just see the money aspect of a collectable, but also maybe it is due to the love that one has for the art that brought the figure or collectable meaning in the first place.

In my opinion, action figures based on movies (particularly Star Wars) used to be special in the sense that you couldn't get them all the time. Now, Disney is constantly churning out more crap on Disney+ and, as a result, are constantly churning out mountains of plastic crap to go along with it. I'm not saying they should be so rare that people need to wait in line for hours or buy them at 1000% markup from a scalper, but they're so ridiculously abundant now that they're no longer special. It's also funny to see a company that's supposedly all about environmentalism leveraging factories in China to just manufacture plastic junk all day that isn't even selling very well.

Hasbro's and Mattel's revenue has dropped, but they are still making profit. More than most companies when one compare the net profit on the dollar on the dollar. Not good but solid. Mattel is close to the 8% margin which is more or less the base target. Lego has become the largest toy producer by now, and they also sell Star Wars and Disney stuff. They became that big with licence-products. But Lego bricks can also be used with any set. If you don't like, you can build something entirely new. But you can also sell it quick, easy and with a fair cash return. Even I, a non Star Wars fan, have bought a Star Wars set here and there. Not the big ones, but some smaller ones. Mostly Mandalorien sets like the battlepacks. Mandolriens work as futuristic warriors in MOCs. Some sets (the Harry Potters) can by good part providers. You don't buy them for the Harry Potter minifigure - I hate him - but for the bricks. Some others collect the minifigures and do not care for the building or ships and sell it separately to people who do not care for the minifigures. There is an entire market place called bricklink where you can sell sets or single bricks. Some make a living by buying the sets, putting them apart and selling the bricks separately. Normally, the part-out-value is higher than the set price. What I try to say: Lego works on several levels for customers with completely different interests, even customers who do not care for a franchise itself can find a use for a set. Why?Because it is build within a larger "universe". One can even use Lego with a ton of other brands. Mattel has Mega, once called MegaBlocks, which has franchise like Halo, MacFarlane had Walking Deads, a German company named Bluebricks has Star Trek. Cobi is a Polish company which produced a lot of military sets. But all used the same standard, and all bricks can be used with each other. It's also that a minifigure is also a standard which exist for decades now. And thus it has a pretty solid value. The plastic the sets are made of, the Lego bricks, have a solid market value being a franchise set or not, and a certain base price is next to guaranteed if you don't ruin the bricks. Every figure he showed in this clips is "isolated" and can't be used with anything else. It is just for display. Lego city for instance is a "Spielwelt", a game world, where you have building of all kinds, people of all kinds, cars, trucks and all the other stuff that make a world whole. And thus it has a high play value - aside that you can build anything with these bricks, and the inherent value the bricks have in terms of money. MOC = My own creation.

@@peepawfart Bingo! The pink aisles are still a place where marketing to the they/them demographic has been quietly ignored for the most part, save for Barbie. Barbie used to be smart and pretty and fun (I was a lucky 80s kid w/Superstar Barbie, real MLP, Transformers, all that great IP) and nowadays, Barbie is the shining example of the bias of low expectations. Every one of them in the play line is a frumpy wierdo with horrible clothes and all the face molds post 2014 or so look like they'd belong just fine amongst a group of dudes dressing up like Charlie's Angels for Halloween. TBH, w/o the movie, I don't know how much longer Barbie would have malingered before taking up even less space. I rehab second-hand fashion dolls that I give to local charities and due to that, I pay very close attention to the pink aisles. I've got a fairly extensive collection of Rainbow High (with their primo old MLP hair) and LOL OMG because they're well-made and absolutely designed to spark your imagination. They hang out with my Jem** dolls and my Style Magic Whitney and their job is to be pretty and colorful as a distraction from the world at large. For the Bratz, I'd keep an eye on the MGA website. I've gotten some great deals there. Watch Amazon as well. They get things at strange times and you might just land yourself a deal. I don't trust my local big box to carry anything, especially around the holidays. I can't say much as to the Monster High, I don't know much about them other than their shoes fit Rainbow Jr. High pretty well. The willingness to put out a decent product for their core customers whilst not alienating potential customers is what's keeping the pink aisles together. Baby Alive isn't having problems with the 18-34 male demographic b/c they're not the core customer. I'm going to stop rambling now. **For those out there who've had shoeless Jems for the last 30 years, a lot of the RH tie-on and strappy heels will fit.

If I'd won a lottery and had the money to blow. I'd buy one of each of those toys and store them away for the next 40 years. I'd bring them out as a museum display of "What killed Star Wars". The value only goes up when people not born yet go looking for it after the landfill. Atari E.T. couldn't sell for any price now it's a collectors item. Also 7:05 Squid Game: The coloring book! has some Bojangles mouths.
@shawnpatrick1877
@shawnpatrick1877 8 ай бұрын
No offense, but you're repeating revisionist history and nonsense. E.T. was actually one of the best-selling Atari 2600 games. It was in the top 10 for a system that had over 500 games and a few hundred more unlicensed games. The problem wasn't that it sold poorly, it was gross overproduction. They literally made more carts than the number of consoles that existed at the time, and so lost a lot of money in spite of the great sales. Even the notion that everyone hated the game is nonsense, perpetuated quite a bit by AVGN in skits that were never meant to be that serious. James Rolfe has even said it's not that bad when compared to other games of the era. It didn't live up to the hype and plenty of kids, that couldn't or didn't want to read the instructions, had trouble understanding it, leading to modern memories of SOME people not liking it. It also had a frustrating element that wasn't so bad once you figured out how to do it. Everyone I knew as a kid actually loved the game. People playing it now for the first time after hearing how bad it is are playing on a very archaic system and have no context, and so further perpetuate this myth about how "unplayable it is." It certainly wasn't the best thing on the console, but it's terribleness is now exaggerated to insane levels, and this notion that it sold poorly and thus ended Atari isn't true whatsoever. Stupid business practices killed Atari. They thought the game would be a console seller because of the film's popularity and overproduced. It wouldn't have done what they predicted even if it was the greatest game of the era.

Also, things produced enough to end up in landfills almost never go up in value. Even if some pop-culture thing like the stories of the landfill peak curiosity, they may go up for a second and then go back down again. Vintage toys and games are almost exclusively bought by people who grew up in the era they were first introduced, and those who just like vintage toys from before their time is a very small, niche group that doesn't tend to buy overproduced, unwanted crap. E.T. cartridges were never expensive and they only went up a small bit when the landfill was confirmed. You could buy them for $1 at used game stored before the landfill-found stories and you can buy them for $1-5 now.

Not.😂😂😂😂 I was looking through the Walmart wishbook, and there are 4 pages of LEGO yet, 1 page of Star Wars (4+ only) and 1 page of Marvel junk. I'm wondering if The Marvels are going to call us "haters" "pro Israel" since they always blame the fans for every Disney failure. I work at a Walmart and the Andor figures have been on the pegs for about two months now the only figures to sell out of that wave were Luke Skywalker and Din Jarin. The store I work at got a shipper full of the bad batch clone commandos and the two clone troopers Jesse and Fives those sold out in a few days, I actually never saw Jesse but I did find a Fives that I picked up.

the whole baby yoda mass marketing plow shows just how simple minded disney thought their star wars consumer was ... and that they would easily fall for tricks.... and if they combined cute with the wisdom from an advanced race with a history of Jedi that appealed to fans, they would drag in the fun loving masses who stayed away from science fiction nerd "white" stuff while at the same time forcing the original fan, the "men," to start hugging cute things instead of playing with blasters and lightsabers

I have 4 Nephews and 1 Niece. They're from the ages of 3 to 10. And they don't play with any toys. They don't like any of today's toys. They should just stick to 80s reissues.
