We are using the sump pump you suggested and it is great. But, when we do water change outs, we just put a longer hose on the pump and drain it right into the bathtub. If your deepwell sink is in the basement with your iharvest, you could do the same thing. It makes it super easy. Hope this helps.

Is the Gardyn 3.0 easier to clean than this? I know this is easier than the 2.0 but I wonder if the 3.0 is better because you can use a dishwasher.

Were the eggplant and cucumbers worth growing? That cleanup looks so much easier than the gardyn!

The cucumbers are worth growing. 3 cucumber plants gave me 1 cucumber a day on average. I don't eat eggplants much so I can't say whether it's worth it. The fairy tale eggplants are definitely interesting to grow. This is definitely easier to clean than the Gardyn.

Thank you so much for posting these great videos! I bought 4 aerogardens and regret it. The reservoirs are to small and you really can't use all of the pods because it's not enough room. Plus to much maintenance. I also have been doing DWC in 5 gallon totes on shelves which is easier to maintain than aerogarden but still a lot given that everything is spread out around my home. I love that you shared everything down to the dolly to make life easier because it's hard to figure everything out. I've invested a lot in what I have but if I did it again I think I'd get the iHarvest and just from your videos I think one day I will. The one thing that strikes me is the amount of algae. I have managed to keep algae away or to immediately get rid of it but I'm wondering if there's something inherent in the iHarvest design that makes it possible to algae. What do you think?
@plant4table
@plant4table 3 жыл бұрын
The algea you saw is the result of 7 months worth of build-up. There would be less algea if I had cover the pods with some aluminum foil as soon as I pop the pods into the system. The grow medium I used was tiny (not the one came with the iHarvest) and without the cover around the rim of the pod, the light got inside and promoted algea. I could have done a better job to prevent that. So it was me, not the system itself. However, I found that algea doesn't harm mature plants. It only kills new seedlings trying to sprout.

I love your videos. You had recently said that you preferred Gardyn Over aero garden. I think the cleaning of Gardyn is way too difficult. I’m not even going to attempt it. My husband put it together and even he doesn’t want to take it apart and reconnect those attachments. I can’t wait to get my aero garden harvest XL up and functioning. It looks much easier to clean

It's definitely painful to clean the Gardyn although I like the look. I hate it so much when it's cleanup time 😒. This iHarvest is definitely better. I still like Aerogarden for herbs. However, I find the pod too small and there's not much room to grow big plants. Other than that, AG is great.

Love your videos, especially comparing different systems. My first choice would be the iharvest, but it is too bulky for my living space. You mentioned you may be interested in getting another system. I would love your thoughts on the "risegardens. " it looks similar to the aerogarden, but prettier. There are not a lot of detailed videos on that system. Maybe they can gift you one to review :) I will probably wait until there is a big sale during the holidays for my purchase of a system. I haven't decided on which one to get.I look forward to your next video!

I looked at the Risegardens website and I am not impressed to be honest. The 1 tier systen is around $600 (after tax) and it houses only 12 plants. I think that is expensive. The space among those pods looks a bit more spacious comparing to Aerogarden, still cramped in my opinion. If you looked at my comparison videos, you already know that I am an advocate for vertical setup because plants have more room to grow. Also, the height of that Risegarden is really low, I can't imagine growing a hot pepper plant in that system. It is more fit for lettuces and herbs. I would rather go with AG XL in that price range if space is an issue. AG looks sturdier than that wooden shelf. That is just my initial thought when looking at their website. I can go on and on about why I did not buy Rise Gardens. They can prove me wrong and send me a sample to review. Risegardens team, are you listening 👂LoL iHarvest is not that bulky. It is pretty flat against the wall. I would say the depth is about the same as that Risegardens shelf.

@@Shivermetimbers90 are you limited to only growing dwarf varieties?
@Shivermetimbers90
@Shivermetimbers90 Жыл бұрын
@@Kn-zj5yd depends what you’re growing and how much up keep you’re planning on doing. For example, I have full sized peppers, tomato and kale in mine. I m have a full sized cherry tomato plant (cherry falls) that i have hanging down from my second tier, but I also have a dwarf orange hat tomato that’s very easy to care for. Sometimes I prefer dwarf varieties for the ease of things but I also do that outdoors because I’m limited to container gardening

I was gifted my first aero garden, the basic bounty, and am setting it up today. But I shared a neighbors tower garden two summers ago and fell in love w hydroponics, as I currently live in an area that gets extremely hot and has clay soil, but the tower is so expensive. I am so happy that I found your channel! I am def decided on an iHarvest, and will start saving up now! I wonder if you can do a video on transplanting into soil, you had mentioned that w the seed starter for the aero garden bounty you have... Thank you for great videos!

I will start seedlings indoor around March so that I can transplant outdoor. I will do a video once I am at that point. Hydroponic is great. I was never able to grow lettuces outdoor because of pests and lettuces likes it cool, not too hot, not too cold. But now I have indefinite supplies of herbs and lettuces. It is so worth it.

As usual Great Job. My iHarvest is on back order and I hope to get it in early March. I did get an AeroGarden Harvest Elite 2 days ago and put it in my kitchen. I was taken aback by the amount of light it produces and now I’m re-thinking putting my iHarvest in the dinette? Maybe I’ll get use to it.

Do you keep the sump pump in the iHarvest permanently or only when you need to drain the water? Did you ever buy a 2nd iHarvest for your home?

The sump pump is just there when I need to drain or refill water. I have only 1 iHarvest because I don't have enough space for another one. And between the Gardyn and iHarvest, I have plenty of greens.

Question, did it cause any water stains or damage to your wooden floor? Thank you for the video! The sump pump is a brilliant idea! I would definitely compost the roots and use that water on outdoor plants... Did the lady bugs help with the insect problem?
@plant4table
@plant4table 3 жыл бұрын
The floor is tile, although it looks like wood. I would be much more careful if it were a wooden floor. The ladybugs helped somewhat but most of them died. I guess because they were stressed due to the transport.

Because I was trying to clean while filming at the same time, it took me a long time. If i were just to clean it, I would say 30 mins to take it down, 2 hours to clean and 30 mins to put everything back together. Total 3 hours. Not too bad if you only need to do it twice a year.

Iharvest has freestanding lights,, do you find yourself tripping over them? I have three small kids( aged 5, and twins at 3) and with spot I am thinking to place them, I don't know if it will be a tripping hazard.

If you get the iHarvest, put a little gate around it. I see a lot of people do this for their iHarvest/Gardyn because they have little children and pets.
@plant4table
@plant4table 3 жыл бұрын
I personally don't find myself tripping over it because it is in a corner of the house. The wire is short and it isnt far from the system itself. Even if you got the Gardyn, I would recommend you to secure it against the wall and put a gate around in so that it won't collapse. I have mine free standing because I don't have pet or kid around.
