Hi! Thank you for the video, still debating whether I should buy a Gardyn system...Anyway, one of my favorite salad recipes involves dill! So here it goes: 1.5 hearts of romaine lettuce (can you grow romaine with this system?), 4 green onions (how about growing that?), a bunch of dill, 1/2 block of feta cheese, 2 tbs of lemon juice, 5 tbs of olive oil, salt & pepper, a sprinkle of sugar, 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard. Preparation: cut the romaine lettuce in thin stripes, wash and spin dry, add to salad bowl; wash and thinly slice green onions, add to bowl; wash dill, cut roughly and add to bowl, cut feta into small crumbs and add to bowl; make dressing (about 1/2 cup): add lemon juice, olive oil, sugar, mustard, salt & pepper to a small bowl and whisk well for 15 seconds, poor over salad mix, toss well and enjoy!

Dill is rich in many compounds, and is known to have very beneficial antioxidants. So it's useful just for the health benefits alone. Dill also has many culinary uses, however. Some people use it as a garnish, but it's also used in potato salads, fish, lamb and egg dishes, and in sauces and marinades, just to name a few. Dill is related to parsley and celery and is often used in Mediterranean dishes, too. Russians (also Ukraine, Baltic states), however, probably use dill more than any other culture. In central and eastern Europe, Scandinavia, Russia, the Baltic states, Ukraine, etc., dill, chives and parsley are considered staple culinary herbs.

We use dill in a sour cream sauce with lemon zest, a squeeze of lemon juice and a touch of salt and put it on Salmon. our Gardyn is only a week behind yours but our plants haven't progressed as far, what are you using for nutrients and how much are you adding?
@plant4table
@plant4table Жыл бұрын
I'm using the nutrient from Gardyn. I put 6 teaspoons in, thus overdosed 🤣. That's why my basil and pepper leaves curled inward. I'm supposed to put in 1 spoon per 2 gallons I think. The system is 6 gallons, so all you really need is 3 teaspoons.

I just bought a Gardyn. The only thing I don’t understand is when do you get rid of the old pot? It looks like to me. It will keep on growing when you harvest.
@plant4table
@plant4table 8 ай бұрын
You keep it until you decide to get rid of it and replace it with another plant. It will just keep growing until it reaches the end of its life. For example, lettuce will become bitter after 70, 80 days. For basil, it will become woody after 6+ months.

I watched your video about growing your own plants. I planted several, including romaine lettuce. I put about four seeds in rockwool. The romaine that came with the gardyn has sprouted after two weeks, but the romaine I planted has not. Have you tried growing your own romaine? Have you noticed discrepancies growing your own plants?
@plant4table
@plant4table Жыл бұрын
It might be because of the difference in varieties, age of the seeds, room temperature, ect. I noticed seeds sprout quicker when planted directly in the Gardyn (no plant food added yet), than putting them in a container with water.

Nope, I don't add anything to the water except for the nutrients. I used to add in some hydrogen peroxide to fight the algea and gnats, but I haven't used any recently. I might try out the hydroboost one day just to see how it works.

Have you ever grown water spinach (rau muong) with indoor hydroponic system such as Aerogarden or iGardyn? What do you think about it?
@plant4table
@plant4table Жыл бұрын
Yes, I tried water spinach in Aerogarden. They did okay. However, the AG pods are just too small, hence I could not grow multiple seeds in 1 pod. It was not very efficient. They should do fine in the iHarvest or Gardyn due to the large 2 inch net cups.

I am about to do this myself. Just ordered a 2.0 and have it up and running to go with my 1.0. I plan to do 10 salad lettuce, 10 buttercrunch, 5 monte carlo, 5 pomegranate crunch, 5 endive, 5 bulls blood, 10 pepper plants, 10 dwarf tomato. The pepper plants and tomatoes root rapidly. I imagine we're going to have to be prepared to trim the roots weekly to keep them under control.

When I had a bad infestation, I threw away everything, cleaned the system. Then I waited 3 weeks before planting anything. You need to wait before planting immediately because there might be eggs laying somewhere waiting to hatch. Without food source, they just die.
