I took my 1984 Mac to Cupertino to visit home - Happy 40th Anniversary Mac!

I think we’ve all seen this beautiful beige box before but maybe we’ve never thought of its actual significance? It’s truly hard to top what this launch did for personal computing 40 years ago on January 24th, 1984.. the day the Mac was introduced to the world. Thanks Steve (and team)!

Really cute video. That Mac was my introduction to computers. We took two out of the property room at the police department and used them to set up a database to track cases in the detective bureau. They worked great. It is amazing how far computing has come.

Justine, while you were not born in 1984. I was a senior at Columbia University waiting for my Mac, Imagewriter, and a large Apple Canvas Bag with a box of 400K deskettes. That almost $4,000 tab was billed to my tutition, which a student loan covered. To think it only did word processing and drawing in black & white with no telephony or internet. The Macintosh was wildly praised as the cutting edge computer for everyone in 1984. In 2024, a similar device from Apple is the Vision Pro.

The Mac went all that way home and slept through the whole thing without even getting turned on. So cruel! Like driving your kid to the toy store, taking a photo of them outside it, and then going home. "Hey kid, I took you to the toy store, but I let you sleep through it."
