That spread is so beautiful! I was so scared at the beginning when you were laying down the first layers ~ I would have stopped and not push through at the fear of not knowing what I’m doing haha

Aw thank you!! It can be really scary to keep going- especially when paintings enter the “weird phase” where nothing really makes sense. Over time you start to develop a sense of trust in the process and that is SO SOOOOO rewarding. (But it takes making weird risks for awhile to get there

Hello, I am a new subscriber. I really love this video, and usually I don’t like music videos, but this was really relaxing and beautiful. I grew up in Southern California and live in the Midwest now. This was just lovely to see! Would love to see more videos, like this, no matter what the content is!

So happy to find you today. This is great. Makes me think of a quote, “water and light was made for watercolor”. It was either Rex Brandt or Barse Miller. I was highly schooled in California School of Watercolor and teach it. I’ve enjoyed the vast experience I got in the certificate program at PAFA graduating in 2018,, but it was all Watercolor before I ever entered that institution in 2008. As I watch you paint I remember how I almost lusted for who? What? Where? Why? I needed to try oils, printmaking, sculpture, all of it. But my first love in art is and will always be watercolor. Keep going Btw I was a student of the workshop market I guess you could call it. I mostly settled on Judi Betts whom I’d call my mentor, But also studied from all her teachers through their books, and had workshops with many other contemporary watercolor workshop greats. That is a good route to go. Well, you have the internet, which we didn’t have 25 years ago, but there is also still a big market in the workshop circuit. That is definitely a good place to land in paying. bills with teaching art, you will also sell many pieces to the students. The unconventional students, mom’s dads , I even brought my family to some workshops in Maine. And I collected the artists I studied with. thank you again for sharing your art journey.

This is amazing! Thank you for sharing **your** journey. I'm really glad you found me too. I'm actually VERY interested in what you shared here about the "workshop circuit" I'm looking all of these artists up and Judi Betts's use of color color (!!!!!!!) is incredible! The workshop world sounds so wonderful. I've taken two virtual workshop courses this year and doing my first-ever in-person course in October. SUPER excited. Glad you're here. thanks for watching : )

That’s so cool you read the parable books during 2020 - so did I - I live in Mendocino county on the road they walked on after the fire and I always think about it as a location in parable of the sower

Thank you for sharing your video. Such a beautiful place to be and paint. You captured the atmosphere perfectly. On a side note, the music was too loud and honestly didn’t fit the vibe of the video. I had to turn off the sound to watch it and missed out on what you were talking about. It was the constant repetition of sound throughout the whole video with no breaks. I think if the music were in small amounts scattered appropriately throughout the video maybe would make it a better video. With this video I would have loved to hear the natural sounds that you were experiencing while you were creating your art. Come to think about it, your video of nature clashed with the electronic sounds of the music. Two totally different experiences that did not mesh well together. I think the music would be perfect for maybe an urban scene. Anyhow, that’s just my personal experience from watching this. Nothing personal. Just an honest observation and feedback on my part. 😊

Hey Thanks for the feedback and for watching anyway! The vid does have captions that ive corrected so it should work totally silent too! (i actually scroll social media on mute) I like the idea that the music should be in just quiet sections. For your request to hear the ocean, that's my plan for the next few! I recently got my old field recorder back to record more audio out in the landscape! My partner is the person who makes the music so I'm super biased but know it isn't everyone's jam. More of these to come for sure so hopefully you enjoy the next one.

@@MelMitchJackArt Oh good idea to watch it with captions. Why didn't I think of that? Ha! I'll go back and watch it like that. I actually don't mind the music in itself, I've listened to lots of electronic music its just that it didn't fit the vibe of the beautiful outdoors and plein air for me.
