I have a MIM Road Worn Strat in Daphne blue that has a slight relic. I LOVE IT. It is finished in nitro with a satin finish and a neck with the finish worn off. I want to find another one and put different pickups in it. I just wish it was not a 7.25 radius fretboard as I prefer 9.5 or close to that. I also have a partscaster, Tele version that is painted in antique white/cream with no finish on the paint. It's ripe for a relic job but I think I'm going to let it age naturally as there is no poly to protect it. It's already got some dings from bouncing around in storage a while. I also have a couple of poly gloss finished guitars that I would NOT in my craziest days attempt to relic. Downing a 12 pack couldn't persuade me to do that to a nice pretty finish. Hats off to you for trying. : - )

That gave me a great laugh. haha. I should have downed a 12 pack before and after that massacre. haha. . Sounds like you have some really fun guitars. I think I am going to put a new neck on this one too. Just for the fun of it. Thanks my friend and keep on going! :)

The journey is where the fun is. And if you can laugh along the way, well, there's not much else in life that's better than that. Cheers my friend.

I mean if the marks are already there and you are not happy just relic it to your satisfaction, use sand paper, that is what I did with my Poly finish Strat when I start to smooth out the dings it had, and honestly I think it looks awesome, there is a limit you don't want to go over tho, usually those finishes have a small layer of clear right under the poly, that's as far as you want to take it

Great tips for sure. Thank you. Yeah, I kind of dig it now. I should have done more research on this type of thing, but all in all, it turned out fine. The guitar sounds killer though. Put some Duncan HUMS in there. Still has the twangy sound with a bit more punch. Keep going my friend. :)

It’s earned its battle scars.

The Holy Grail is a relic, a guitar can never be one. It's worn.

Scratches would help protect it from getting stolen

If you want to 'relic' your plank, better off giving it to one of the many professional restorers/builders based in the US.
