Sucks when an under skilled guy injures you unexpectedly! As a gym owner, this has happened to me a few times unfortunately. Earlier this year, I hosted a public open mat at my school and this huge 4 stripe white belt was there. He was nothing special, just big, smashing whomever he could and quitting half match from fatigue against anyone skilled. He asked me to roll, of course I said yes. Easily tapped him a few times and he asked me what's the best way to pass guard. So, taking into consideration his natural movement and size I proceeded to coach him on how to do a simple double under pass and what does he do right in the middle of me instructing him how? He reaps my knee after me allowing him to get both of my legs on top of his shoulders, putting all 300lbs of his body weight on the pass too. My knee was injured for 6 months.

This was a casual takedown in my Sombo/Sambo classes, albeit 20 years ago. In five plus years, never saw one injury from it, directly, like that. Then again, we trained it hard. All of the time. Just surprised to see people speaking against it. That said, been out of the loop, a bit. I just wonder what would have been said if no injury?
@jiujitsuvideo38352 жыл бұрын
You never saw one injury from it because the guys who got injured didn't come back! What hole have you been training in Zer? This is outlawed in most academies even Danaher's crazy leg lock guys. WTFU!
@zer0ed7792 жыл бұрын
@@jiujitsuvideo3835 This was over twenty years ago, and under almost pure Sombo/Sambo practices with the American Sombo Academy of Northwest. That may explain the difference, too. Various scissor takedowns were, and are, Sambo essentials. There were no people coming and going due to this type of injury. We saw more of that from heated armbar exchanges, but the recipient is still to blame. Oh, and we all know Tyler will be back. Maybe quicker than some would like. 😂 Unfortunately, I no longer train anymore, for various reasons. Other than following loosely, I am out of the loop on rules. While I respect Jiu Jitsu as a far superior submission sport, I think the reaction here also exposes one of its well known weaknesses... Takedowns, and take down defense. At least compared to some other combat sports. I can say, back when I trained, even with local Jiu Jitsu guys that could tap me in a second, none of them know much takedown, and they certainly did now practice waist down submissions, which is what a scissor variant can easily lead to. I am glad Danaher and Lister made such practices very popular and refined for their art and grappling in general. Again, I was just surprised by the reaction to this. I agree, if this is truly a no-no everywhere now, and I include outside trendy Jiu Jitsu studios, and somehow I doubt that, I have been under a rock. I have kind of already admitted that and no need for insults.
