hope you're recovering well, austin what do you think of making remakes of pop songs? like trying to get it really accurate a lot of other music production channels have dabbled in it, it could be interesting
@MakePopMusic3 ай бұрын
Feeling much better! That's SUCH a good exercise to learn sound design, figure out techniques, and understand how to make a top tier pop song. I don't do it much anymore because I'm typically busy with other projects but when I was starting I did it all the time.

Austin, man I can’t really explain why but this video game me chills. I’m 3 years into my production journey and I just now have the courage to have an analog vocal chain! Wa-8000 into LA-610mkii into a 1176 vst so far. It sounds really good. Watching you manage all that gear and coherently discuss the reasoning behind the gear just really encouraged me to not be afraid to master my gear. Thanks so much man. Feel better soon!

Hey Austin, did your Furman power conditioner resolve any noise issues or just using as preventative measure?

I’ve always used it so I can’t speak to noise. I have mine because we have horrible lightning storms in Florida and we lose power regularly

Can you make a video showing how you record live instruments like electric guitar and piano live
@MakePopMusic3 ай бұрын
For sure! For guitar, I run my guitar into a DI pedal so I can have a raw DI go into my interface, and then I have the Thru go to my Line 6 Pod HD so I can hear / track with tones. This allows me to listen back with tones and even record those, but still capture high quality DI to use stuff like Neural DSP plugins later. For piano, my room is too small for that so I'd go to another studio with a live room. I'd do a spaced pair under the piano hood and then a couple other room mics and possibly a mic by the player.
@musiclover-r9m3 ай бұрын
He's not recording live piano in his home studio. There are tons of videos on youtube about recording piano and the micing process - older engineers would be the best place to start as they had to record piano live for years and years before VSTs so they have it down to a science. Any modern engineer is probably only doing this once in a blue moon since piano VSTs are already perfectly mic'd and sound incredible.

Big docking station that everything plugs into so guests can also plug and play. Then interface into that, all midi controllers and Iloks into one hub, all SSDs into another hub, both hubs into that docking station. Great question. Maybe I’ll do a vid on it!

Ferrofish and RME both are killing it with the price per channel in high quality conversion. How have you liked the Audient channels?
@MakePopMusic3 ай бұрын
They’re fine what I use them for. Probably wouldn’t buy them again now and I’ve had issues with the unit that Audient wouldn’t fix (without me paying to ship it there, get a quote for repair from them, and pay to ship it back) so it’s only working at about half efficiency right now.

Hey! Honestly any label or mangagement is going to want you to have some kind of following / connections. I'd work on getting into sessions with bigger artists and producers and working your way up, and it never hurts to be public about your craft. Make little reels on you creating a song, or outtakes of a recording session, or day in the life vlogs, or whatever else brings you joy. Definitely don't force the content and don't think that you have to position yourself as an "expert" in the field. Just make shit.

Can you please make a video about what the tiktok ban will mean for upcoming artists who want to promote themselves and build a following? I hear tiktok makes it easier to go viral compared to youtube shorts and the sounds you can use on tiktoks increase exposure. What does that mean for the music industry and will youtube shorts be enough to fill the void left by tiktok?
@MakePopMusic3 ай бұрын
I'm probably the worst person to weigh in on that because I don't use TikTok at all (for posting or consuming content). Reels have already been taking the place of TikToks so if TikTok actually does shut down, it'll all just move to a new app or something like Reels. Idk, same thing happened with Vine 8 years ago and that all worked itself out eventually. I do feel terrible for people who built MASSIVE TikTok followings that didn't convert those people to other platforms as well.
@Top_Dawg3603 ай бұрын
@@MakePopMusic yeah, i know a friend who made over 7 million followers on tiktok but she only focused on tiktok so if tiktok goes down, she'll lose all of those followers and a lot of other people who run a business on tiktok will have to start all over as well. It's really sad :(
