Svetlana Dreher you are right, maybe we should have less clothes to really take advantange of using something over and over ( more than 52 weeks) and help the planet and our savings……., good point of view!!!

52 wears is A LOT of wears! Many basic tee shirts won’t survive that many wears, especially if you wash every time you wear. I have one tee with over 60 wears and there are several holes. And it’s a nice organic cotton tee that I’ve never put in the dryer. So I agree with you in theory!! But in practice, that’s a lot of wear to put on an item of clothing.
@svetlanadreher71903 жыл бұрын
Sure! It's a lot for a t-shirt, mine never last that long 😅 I was thinking mostly about videos I saw where people have their cost per wear down to like nothing and I'm wondering how is that even possible... For a t-shirt or a pair of jeans yes, but a shirt? This realization about 52 weeks in a year just made me think a lot about the numbers, that's all...

I am a college professor and I keep an outfit map, which involves writing up outfits for the coming week, fit for purpose, like big lectures or formal meetings versus tutorials and research days. It takes all the stress out and means no decision making in the morning, it’s ready to go. These are all tried and tested capsule outfits anyway, but it means I know what’s on high rotation, and a whole bunch of other data, for barely 5 mins input. Highly recommend. It just gives so much clarity. It also shows any gaps and that helps on the LowBuy track. ☺️

I've had clothes in my closet that I totally disliked but felt almost obligated to wear. Very liberating to declutter them. And I also am dressing up to go just about anywhere because I can and also want to wear my clothes.

I gave myself a challenge last year to wear every single shirt I own with the rule of not being allowed to wear something twice during this challenge. This experiment was a helpful way to figure out what to declutter (the shirts I was putting off wearing) and helped me appreciate every piece of clothing I had
@DianaCGarciaG3 жыл бұрын
You inspired me to track my own closet and it has been EYE-OPENING! I do it a bit differently but is something that I also want to do for at least a year. I am creating a capsule at the start of each month, and I am taking a daily picture and then uploading it to Pinterest. At the end of each month, I go over the photos and count what I wore. The most surprising thing is seeing pieces that by themselves I like but they just don't work on me for whatever reason. In a very self-loving way, I come to terms with the pieces that are for my ideal safe and then let go. Slowly but steadily I am realizing my style, taste, and making sure to have a closet of only things I love. CANNOT RECOMMEND IT ENOUGH! Thanks, Christina for the inspiration!

Maybe it’s best to imagine cost for an item as time. Like you pay $50 for something to wear it how many times or however long throughout the year. This way, whether an item costs a little or a lot, you can learn what to buy based on quality p, not necessarily price or retail.
@erineccentric58103 жыл бұрын
I would love to do this. I think just setting up the initial spreadsheet will cause me to purge half my clothes because I don't want to bother recording it on the sheet. I'm still clinging to my in-office/nice clothes even though my daily wardrobe is sweats and oversized tees. I also still have so many heeled shoes that are not practical at all. I just can't let go some of my clothes because of the one time a year i might wear it for a special occasion even though i have other clothes i could wear and still feel nice.

You could try to build a Capsule wardrobe and only add those items to the spreadsheet and you can add the rest of your clothes only of you wear them. That way you could se the items you wore the most, the ones you wore a few times and the ones that didn't even made the list! I hope that helps :)

I've been tracking for about 8 years. I find activities and weather affect what is worn year to year so you needed to track longer. The last 2 years haven't been typical. I think would wear skirts more in summer, but haven't found the right one. I'm inclined to buy duplicates of basics that I know I will wear and sometimes need to risk buying something I won't wear as much for interest and variety. Sometimes the quality of the item affects its wear or what I do, so if my Breton top is from a supermarket I will happily do the gardening in it, but not if it was expensive.

I’ve been tracking for about 4 years with Stylebook and it’s been really helpful, especially looking at items not worn in the last year/six months/whatever. Ideally I’d love to get my pieces down to under a dollar a wear - super easy with the $6 thrifted pants but a bit harder with my more expensive blouses! Kind of makes me think about whether items like that would be worth it in the future’

I really like the idea of tracking what you wear and at what frequence, but I'm not so sure it should be a definite criteria for throwing/putting away the clothes you own : it depends so much on the type of clothing amongst other thnigs... For example, I've got a pure wool sweater (the only oneI got!) that is so great when the weather is really cold. As I don't want to wash it too often, I wear it for a day, then I let it "dry out" for at least a week before wearing it again. And I try to wait for a very cold day to wear it again (but also, as it looks amazing, I wait for a day during which I'm able to "showcase" it, at least I don't wear it when I'm alone at home). I probably wore it like 8 times since the beginning of the cold season (I bought it in the summer), and I'm probably not going to wear it after march or april. so I will have worn it maybe 12 times at most throughout the year. But I am NOT getting rid of it !!!!! as I really love it, and it's just that I try to understand the materials and its characteristics and also kind of make it fit my lifestyle. As a general matter, I would love to see practical videos about clothing that talk about the weather, the logistics of washing up, how one articulates all that ? but all of this is just me rambling, I guess that depends on so many criterias, anyway, I found your video and idea very interesting and helpful, and might do some tracking in the future. thanks! EDIT : I just finished this video and I watched the "I Found My Personal Style Without Shopping", and I found that you kind of adress all of the things I was mentioning before., so thank you!

I have been tracking my wardrobe for two years now and it has been eye opening + the way I shop has changed A LOT. Now I buy maybe one a bit more expensive and higher quality item per month, instead of multiple cheaper items. Also, I never buy things spontaneously, because I have a wishlist of clothing & accessories that I want, to make sure I really want them and that they go with my style. I am currently on a challenge not to buy any new clothes (unless I absolutely need to) until my trip to Paris in July. BUT there is also a downside, because tracking my wardrobe has somehow given me major anxiety to get the cost per wear to a lower number, whenever I buy something new. 😅

I used to have lots but I now have 4 navy, 2 red, 2 merino, and 2 camis and that is perfect for me. Not doing a spreadsheet, but just an idea and I've also come to the conclusion that I reach for things that are practical but that I don't necessarily like anymore. Once upon a time I loved them but they are worn or I've just grown out of the style ie. scrunch bum leggings >.< Part of me wants to get rid of some of my party/cocktail dresses because I don't have events for them anymore, but the other part of me is like "but what if?"

Girl, same. I heard 300 items and was like 🥴😬😰😩 My goal for 2021 is to declutter my house, with my closet being the most daunting task. I’ve been avoiding it because it’s about 100x’s more exhausting than any other project. Here is to us decluttering our stuff! 🙌🤜😃
